    Actually, they heard the announcement that the martians had landed (framed as if it were a "real" news broadcast), but they didn't hear the next segment which happens weeks later in fictional time, because they were already out grabbing the "guns and groceries". Of course, that also means they missed the numerous announcements that the broadcast was a work of fiction.


    Understandable, I guess.

    Then the President can sign or veto. If he vetos, or refuses to act in 10 days (Pocket Veto), the bill dies UNLESS 2/3 of the House and Senate vote to override it. This rarely (in less than 1/10th of vetoes) occurs. If they dont, the bill dies.


    A niggling point here. "Pocket veto" is only possible when Congress is in recess. While Congress is in session, if the president lets a bill sit for 10 days, it becomes law without his signature.

    Are you one of them? If not, you are taking Gagarin's existence on faith. You believe people who knew him, when they say that they knew him. (Actually, there's probably more degrees of separation than that. You believe people who repeated what they heard from other people who presumably knew Gagarin. Is that close enough?)


    You might try reading the first general (open) letter by the apostle John, with your question, as you have stated it, in mind. You may find that John anticipated your question and answered it there, although seeing the answer may require you to give up the belief that no answer could exist.

    Don't knock it. I use a computer to sit on at my home workbench. It's a 386 tower with 80M hard drive that I picked up for free. I turned it on once, just to see if it really worked (it does), and have used it for a workstool ever since.


    But when I move out of this house, it's going in the can.
