Saddam Hussein Arrested

MoonChild was the first of hundreds to submit that MSNBC, ABCNews and others are reporting that Saddam Hussein was arrested. This isn't normal Slashdot subject matter, but I figured it was worth mentioning.

    Totally forgetting the whole "war crime" bit eh? Also while the US does do a lot of good in the world you guys seem to always "innocently" forget to think about the fact that many many other nations contribute lives [which you have a habit of taking, fucking american pilots], money, supplies, time. Canada for instance has been a supporter of *peace keeping* efforts all over the world. So has france, germany and russia [countries the US tends to downplay].

    Just because we don't invade foreign nations to get votes doesn't mean we don't contribute [in a positive manner]

    Well as long as you fucking yuppies don't think Paul Martin is hiding WMDs under parliment or something we're all good.

    If I were an American I would have long since moved out of that place.
    The USA needs to quit bullying the world. You American's are not as "great" as you all seem to think. As a whole, mind you, I'm not talking about individuals, I'm sure there's lots of great American people, but the way your country is run makes me very worried as to how far your government will go in the name of "national security" which is just another word(s) for "oppression"

    Now there are no more major bits of "good news(tm)" that can come out of Iraq. Now we can get back to concentrating on the lies and spin surrounding the war. This should be an excellent moral boost for our men and women over there fighting. Good for them.

    This is yet another example of how deranged the Bush-haters are. When the economy is now growing again, and we're making real progress in Iraq, the ones who seem to really hate it are the lefties.

    When Saddam's sons were killed, the ones who seem to be the most disappointed were the Democrats.

    Now, one of the worst dictators in history is captured alive, and all they can think about is that it is going to help Bush politically. It's ignored that this is a great day for Iraqis and the world. The hatred for Bush seems to blind them from seeing past anything else.

    Yeah heaven forbid that the US govt lied to the world about WMD so they could invade a foreign land, get cheap gas, pump up the military, look good for the cameras and get a re-elect.

    It seems the "goals" have quickly changed and all news is turning into "right, that's what we wanted todo in the first place!".

    Recall that Bush was the one whining at hour long press conferences about how the world is so unsafe with his WMDs at large....

    Well. I just hope he gets a fair and open IN Iraq.
    Then the world will see the US, British, French and Russian governments for what they are. Looters of the world's resources.
    Remember. The Brits are responsible for setting the political background in the whole middle eastern area. A background that allowed people like Hussein to rise to power. The Yanks that sold him military equipment and weaponry to stay in power. The French for getting the contracts for the country's infrastructure. The Russians for the oil trade with Iraq...

    Fair trial my ass. He will be silenced as quickly as possible. There's even talk of the trial being able to hand out a death penalty.

    I guess I can just keep on dreaming for these things to come out.
    I guess I can keep on dreaming that Iraq will not be the operations centre of the Yanks' greedy fingers getting into the Syrian, Lebanes, Kuweitian, Saudi and Persian pies....

    One other thing. What's with the cheering by those people allegedly being journalists. Are there no real journalists coming out of the US anymore? Or have they been deprived of their right to speak out because they are "unpatriotic"?

      Hi there. Thanks for your words. I checked your site out briefly; further surfing pending.
      As far as my comment is concerned, I have to admit I was mildly irritated for receiving such moderation. On the other hand it is the most convenient, to humans, response, to block what they don't like. That, naturally, does not mean that my comment deserved exposure by default. There are comments out there that are indeed "Insightful" and some of them have even been moderated as such.
      What is boils down to is this: There may be thousands disagreeing with, in my opinion, very valid point of view I expressed. What comforts me is what Aristotle said. Just because they are the majority, it doen't mean they are right. Just that they are more.

    I am very curious to see what he will be accused for. For not being elected in his country with a clear procedure (cmon, even US had this problem during last elections. Did anybody sent there army to enforce peace and a legitimate government, even if we all know they have WMAs that the new president would have in his power)? For NOT having WMAs? For not quiting presidentency of his country when others told him to (even though they made a mistake about why he should)? For defending (trying, at least) his country for external invaders? For hidding from invaders and asking for resistance? For having a bad/fake beard? For being hunted like a dog in his own country by foreign missionairies? For not surrendering himself to people that have no UN concensus for doing what they did to a foreign country?

    The only trial that would be legit, would be the one on their country, by their own people, for things that he did to them.

    As far as US is concerned, this man is their victim and not an outlaw.

    Can't help remembering that this man was the one ruling his country when US attacked some years ago, conquered and left him retain his power. What ? he was evil back then, a whole war happened, but US decided to give him another chance?

    Don't forget that a trial on US is bad (good for some?) for another reason. It is one of the few countries still using death penalties (gus, injections, guns, hanging, chairs....). I believe that the result will be the same if trial takes place on Iraq grounds, and US will not have to show that US rednecks and Iraq fanatics have same laws and law enforcement techniques (making this war even more rediculous and vain)

    I am not happy he got arrested. Now it is time for Koreans or French i suppose.... New card decks should be printed immedietly...

    9/11 didn't occur because of something we did, it happened simply because of what we were. A successful, free, secular society.

There is no way you could claim that the US and UK "blessed" Iraq's behavior in the 80's if you had been old enough to watch anything other than Sesame St or Voltron back in those days.

    Perhaps you should switch off Fox News, pick up a history book, and ask yourself why it took the Gulf War and this latest War on Terrorism to bring his activities to your attention. For bonus points, find out where else this kind of oppression is going on and how long it's been ignored by the Western world.
