Classic Game Endings Online
Game Revolutions has a project running to collect together some of the finest game endings from the 16- and 8-bit eras. Some of the examples they have for viewing via Flash include Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Flashback, Secret of Mana, and Starfox.
Maybe I can see the ending of Zelda II...
(A winner is you.)
Here is the correct link for Starfox.
Personally, I wish that they didn't restrict themselves to consoles. There were a lot of Commodore, Amiga, and early PC games that had great endings.
The Overrated mod is for reversing inappropriate, positive mods, not for voicing disagreement with a post.
Chrono Trigger should take up half of the article.
Religion for nerds. Stuff that really matters
If you were a big fan of Secret of Mana, there's a MMORPG on sf.net that tries to capture the feel of SoM. The sf.net page The main website
Like most projects on sf.net, it's under development and isn't out of alpha, so be gentle with it... and if you like it and can contribute to it (pixel artists, anyone?,) please do!
There are two types of people in the world: those who divide people into two types and those who don't.
I've been using MAME to play some old games. After 15 years, I still can't finish Rolling Thunder! What an awesome game that was. I did however finish Ikari Warriors. Damn, I'm old :(
http://religiousfreaks.com/And I'll be honest, I'm only posting in here to up the comment count to hopefully get more eyeballs in this story.
Not flash, but http://www.vgmuseum.com/ has been around a LONG time and has an extensive archive of endings.
Where's my "it was all a dream" from mario brothers 2?

Why don't you just find out for yourself? link

I beat Infocom's game Enchanter by (somewhat accidently) exploiting a couple of game bugs. So I didn't have full points at the end. This wasn't ever supposed to happen of course, but there was still a cool ending where the circle of Enchanters expressed vague disappointment in my deeds, saying that "something was missing."
Maybe now I can finally figure out how Tetris ends!
Not a console game, but it is "16-bit".
For instance, if they tried to post the ending for Halo 2:
"And the Flood are like totally bad!"
"We should do somethi--sg4543%#$I

Duke Nukem 3D
http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/duke-nukem-3d/s
Sadly the best bit isn't there, where Duke rips off the head of the Overlord and shits down his neck !!
Ending to end all endings.
Time ticks away until I can play it again :

There are places where the networks are not touching, and there are places where they are-Boeing's Lori Gunter
it took me 10 years to beat ninja gaiden, and i had to cheat on it ;)
;) ... repeat 8 times or so
i remember calling up a couple friends bragging that i had beaten it in 1999 (ten years after its release)
the main boss could kill you in like 3 hits, and you seemed to have to take a hit to hit him, and you had to hit him like 16 times.. i had to save state after every couple hits and edit the save so i would have full health, then load it, and get 2 more hits
Many game endings can also be seen in the tool-assisted game movies on http://bisqwit.iki.fi/nesvideos/ . In fact, you get more than just the endings there - you also get to see the entire games, played perfectly (or at least nearly so).
(And for the record, no, I'm not affiliated with that site in any way or shape at all - I'm just a fan who enjoys those movies.)
quidquid latine dictum sit altum videtur.
I got this game because it was produced by the creators of "Another World". But it turned out to be much better. The visuals, the story, and the gameplay were all great, but what I liked the most was the music.
How many of you guys have played it?
It was also on Digg. Poor site. Actually, that would be a great ending too. [grin] :)
Ant(Dude) @ Quality Foraged Links (AQFL.net) & The Ant Farm (antfarm.ma.cx / antfarm.home.dhs.org).
You fight your own shadow on the end of II... I don't know anyone but me who beat the second adventure of Zelda I.
...it's slashdotted already, DAMN!!!
I'm hoping that they have the ending for Final Fantasy II (US version which I think is actually III or IV in Japan). Back in high school I got so engrossed in that game that I skipped work/school for an entire week. Unfortunately, the threat of being fired, kicked out of the house, and repeating my senior year forced me to put it on hold plus it was a rental, and the late fee was becoming epic.
15 years later, I'm still dying to know how it ended, but I've never been able to bring myself to commit the 20+ hours to get back to the point I was.
Seriously, what a cool idea. Now get somebody working on capturing all the other cutscenes so I can watch complete mini-movies of favorite game storylines without having to dedicate 10-20 hours to playing them again.

:( bummer.
The only bad thing i have with this is that i can't roll as easily as i used to. It's as if the down key would get stuck
The vgmuseum.com site tried to isntall "Downloader-RK" on my computer via its popup advertisements.
Ultima Exodus for the NES.
I played for 11 months to finally figure out/beat this damned game, and what do I get?
The credits scroll, then it says, "Thank you for playing, see you next game."
F that. Next game? I promptly threw that damned cartridge against the wall.
Granted, it was my first taste of some real RPG fun on the NES. Dragon Warrior was alright, but Ultima Exodus was some crack rock - only to be toppled by Final Fantasy.
What about posting a video showing the end of their webserver after posting a link on /.
No man is an island, But if you take a bunch of dead guys and tie them together, they make a pretty good raft.
If you've got half an hour to waste, check out this Flash parody of the Final Fantasy VI (III) ending.
The ending to all true classic games, as in before the NES, is "Game Over". They are supposed to just get harder and harder until you finally die more times than you get free ships/lives/whatever.

From The Guardian Legend, an excellent top-down platformer plus vertical shooter. I spent months playing that game, gave up, then picked it up again and finally beat it. Too bad the ending sucked, the game is great.
Then there's the ending from Wizards & Warriors. FUN, FUN game, but after you beat the final boss...you save yet another maiden, and that's it. Yay, you get to put in your high score, which will be reset when you turn off the NES! I'm so excited!
Ikari Warriors also had a cheesy ending.
Man is the animal that laughs.
And occasionally whores for Karma.
Why is it that when you believe something it's an opinion, but when I believe something it's a manifesto?
I vividly recall Snatcher's ending as *THE* best ending in any 16-bit title. Granted, only a few could afford to play a Sega Mega-CD game let alone finish it, I just found this work by Hideo Kojima predating his ultra successful MGS series to deserve an honourable mention in the realm of Slashdot.
it was called "Fade To Black", but it wasn't very much like the original.
Anyone remembers the ending from Eye of the Beholder?
2 pages of text, then get thrown out to C:\>
I simply sat there amazed.
Fortunately, the ending from Eye of the Beholder II was great and more than made up for it.
and raise you the 86 from Star Ocean 2.
Hi! I make Firefox Plug-ins. Check 'em out @ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-mp3-podcaster/
The original Ultima (I) gave a single line of text and locked up. "Congratulations! You Killed Mondain!"* or something to that effect. Yes, this was the early 80s and the game was written in BASIC, but still.
They upped it a little in the later remake to a screenful of scrolling text.
* Hope I didn't spoil it for anyone...
What about the ending to Ultima 9 or was it 10? The 3d one, Ascention. After playing tons of Ultima games and going through decades of well-written Avatar adventures, we get... a 45 second techno song.
Endings for a load of Sinclair ZX Spectrum games can be found here:
http://www.speccyspoilers.co.uk/
R Tape loading error, 0:1
And unlike Star Ocean 2, they were all different.
Take that non-believer!
I don't remember that. I remember a really good ending to Ultima 9. It completely wrapped up the entire series with the Avatars fate. Good stuff. Don't remember the techno song either, but that is such a horrid idea maybe I've blocked it out of memory...
...anywhere (computer or console) is Fallout 1.
It wasn't a great RPG, ok for the time - the best thing it had going were the cintematics and music. It was one of Working Designs first TG-16 CD-ROM releases.
If you played, and beat it, the ending was very unexpected. Basically your girlfriend is kidnapped by an evil overlord - and instead of killing you, sends you 20 years into the future to see how the world has turned out under his rule. You spend the whole game getting to the point to face the overlord (which takes awhile) and when you finally do defeat him, you rescue your now much older girl friend.
Right after you do this, she dies. I was 11 or 12 when i beat the game, and it was really disturbing at the time. I just spent 20+ hours to rescue the damsel and she just died in my arms - but i just won.... The graphics and voice made it even more real at the time.
I wouldn't recomend playing it through now, unless you thrive on random encounters.
In-browser flash sucks. And I'm lazy.
