Compete or die? What are you talking about? Right now Nintendo has been padding their accounts with success of a console that actually makes money for every unit sold. I don't know if 360s are not turning a profit, but the PS3 is still being sold in the red. Most people don't have HDtv yet. Being on Slashdot, you probably surround yourself with a small group of people who happen to be very tech savvy. The majority of the world hasn't upgraded. All of this translates to something simple: Nintendo will be able to transition well to a new generation. They will be able to produce a new console at a lower price as the tech costs fall. By coming out with something new, they will likely force Sony and Microsoft to come out with something (anything) to try to show their own innovation.

  3. Missing the point... on Nintendo Announces New Mario Bros, Mario Galaxy, Metroid · · Score: 1

Tons of comments in this thread complaining that the Wii can't support higher res... problem is, the Wii's target audience doesn't really care. A couple of my friends own sick HD flat screens I would kill for, yet their only system is a Wii. They play Wii sports, Guitar Hero, etc. and love it. No use for a PS3 or Xbox - even with the quality picture.

That said.. shouldn't Sony be focusing on trying to fix the PS3 rather than extend the life of the PS2?

Also, I think there is a certain amount of deference paid to the right of the family to be free from judicial interference except in cases of abuse.) 14. Re:Who cares? on Some Truth to Wii as GameCube 1.5? · · Score: 1

Of course this is the reason. The article consists of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices president bashing Nintendo to promote his own system. Who cares? All the manufacturers will tout their own console as "the best" for various reasons [and all will be correct for those same reasons, or they'd be laughed off the stage].

I don't deny that the Wii isn't up to par with the PS3 and 360, but M$ and Sony seem to think that Nintendo is trying to claim they are something they aren't - which flat out isn't true. Big N has consciously said they are trying to expand the market, rather than compete for the same market share as the other major developers. Now that the Wii has started infringing a bit on the market Sony and M$ share, the latter two companies are concerned that their own consoles will fail, hence the backlash.

Let MS and Sony focus on making desirable systems that people can afford rather than bashing Nintendo for achieving what they've (thus far) failed miserably at in this gen.

"One thing I'm not certain of is that third-parties are super-excited about that motion control - or at least they're not showing it with the games that are hitting the shelves yet"
Well duh. Other than Ubisoft, few manufacturers really started supporting it before the wii's successful launch.

"We're yet to see a really good game on Wii that really says 'OK that control kicked ass'"
I remember plenty of talk about people loving Rayman, Madden '07, WarioWare, etc. etc. Not to mention Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid, and Super Smash Bros. are all on the horizon. I'd love to see some of the other major third party titles make their way over to the Wii as well, but it's better that the third parties learn how to properly produce games for the console rather than rushing things and dishing out crap nobody will buy.

  22. To beat the dark level: on Downloadable Content This Week - Zuma Clone, TMNT · · Score: 2, Informative

The old Ultra TMNT game was the first one I bought for my old NES back in the day. I've managed to beat it twice, once around '92-'93 and the other time around 2000.

The dark buildings level ya'll got stuck on is confusing, but its only that way cause you're searching for the Technodrome. There are three houses where you can go for power ups, I'd suggest going to the one with boomerangs in the basement and loading up with 99 for all your guys except the one who has the big arch weapon from world 3. Then there are three sewers. You have to work your way through the underground sewers to the basement room. If you're lucky you'll find the technodrome, if you're unlucky you end up in a room with nothing but weird rock formations. The Technodrome shifts between levels every time you enter one though, so it takes a while to run into it. Fortunately it's easy to beat.

The next level is inside the Technodrome. This one is alot harder with weird jumping kangaroo things and men in space suits. Most of the guys in space suits you just have to run at and attack, because their lasers will hit you no matter how you dodge. There are tricks though to make them fire, dodge the blast, then they will retreat offscreen and disappear.

Shredder isn't that hard really, its just tough to get to him :/

Definitely one of my favorite games ever.

PS: I never was able to beat Blaster Master either! D@*$!
