Apple Sells More Than 10 Million New iPhones In First 3 Days
An anonymous reader writes Apple has announced that it sold over 10 million new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models, just three days after the launch on September 19. From the article: "Chief Executive Tim Cook said the company could have sold even more iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models if supplies had been available. Analysts had estimated first-weekend sales of up to 10 million iPhones, after Apple booked record pre-orders of 4 million on Sept. 12, the day pre-orders opened."
What they sold in their first year. Amazing.

A billion is simply not as much as it used to be. Android sell 1 and half Billion devices daily last time I checked, although this was before the massive growth in places like India. Apples Share continues to drop.
I purchased one, but its microwave charger was broken, so I got another but that one was broken too. Each time when the microwave charger broke, even normal charging no longer worked.

Most of the new iPhones seem to be going to existing iPhone users. Trading in old phones after the contract expires brings in some new money for Apple without increasing market share.

To be honest, this smacks of lemmings. It really does. The fact that people will stand in line for a thing amazes me. I dislike how people are judged by what mobile device they own, the trainers they wear, the car they drive. It's all amazing... People actually feel less than successful or less hip if they have a mobile that's not the latest.
Android phones now account for 823 phones out of every phone sold. That's progress!

I would say that most of the people I know use iPhones. I have never heard any one of those iPhone users judging an Android phone user as an inferior person, less successful, or not as hip. I have, however, consistently hear all the usual judgements from Android users against iPhones users: lemmings, idiots with too much money, Steve Jobs worshippers, etc.
In other news Hyundai outsells BMW 4 to 1. To each his own.
I am not sure if Apple is Like BMW with small memory, and storage, and screen resolution and battery..without features like waterproofing...maybe a smart car?

iPhone is a product, android is an industry.
Know they are both products, just on the iPhone...iOS...the OS is a Unique Selling Point, and it used to be a pretty good one. As opposed to Android sold at Zero cost to Manufactures of Phones, for collecting the revenue from Advertising and the revenue from the Play store.
You can only argue which has the better model(Short term profits vs Long term Market share), I personally think Androids is better long term.

As I said it came from bonds, bought against money that is taxable nowhere for fear it might be used to pay for hospitals and schools. Mr Cook should have gone to jail.
It's amazing the iPhone sells, it's old technology outfitted with pointless style, but I guess if you want to brag about getting the hardware I had last year then cool.
So more hype over the latest shiny from the fruit company. Where I live they had TV cameras giving the Apple Store(tm) free advertising over the clown show lineup: "Oh, I jus. got to have my shiny, its just so much betta". All this, even though you could go to best buy or a half dozen other stores and just buy the latest offering (no line ups, no hype, lots in stock, no tents needed, no vigils required, no security asking people to move outside if you haven't been here overnight...). So the fruit company makes a newer, bigger shiny, nearly as big as the competition, nearly as fast (and clearly 5% faster than the old shiny), and not just that, but there's more! And you can't *ever* get enough more! So there you have it. They sold nearly as many as Android does on a typical day. Drag out the streamers and the Rum.
I wonder how many of those phones went to carriers and counted as 'First day sales'? How many actual _humans_ bought phones?

Apple uses the actually sold numbers, Android used the hidden in the supply chain number.
Apple NEVER has used sold it has always stated that it counts them as sold because if only ships what it know it will sell. Always has check its the investment part of its site. It is actually more hilarious as Apple has to *cough* adjust its iPad figures after what was excused as changes in supply chain. We know see it is as Apple simply failing to sell iPads.

Me too, and I think that the fact that I have a 5.5" Phone in my pocked that cost a third the price of the iPhone, and in every way is better. Screams otherwise. I like my music Bass heavy and headphones to look good...like my phone, hell I could use the money I save by not buying an Apple.
And they were not able to launch in their biggest market. They did last year.

It's times like this I'm reminded that the freedom aspect of software, and the perils of the walled garden, are either poorly sold by the FOSS crowd or completely ignored by regular folk. Once we finally obtained a fully locked down ecosystem in all walks of computing life, it'll be the old neckbeards who desperately hopes people would wake up and not keep giving Apple more money, but apparently that's not the case.
WTF, are iPhone 5's exploding or something? Have they stopped working such that the iPhone 6 is a necessary upgrade? Fucking hell, so much existing computing power and yet such a desire to waste money and upgrade to yet another locked-down device. I don't care how nice the device is, it's killing all our hopes for a better computing future. No-one fucking cares about freedom anymore...

Apple needs to go back to 8th grade economics and learn supply and demand graphs then put a big line on it where their supply runs out and recalculate sales. Plus, there's over a dozen superior android models than Apple's outdated attempt at making a phone so dumb people aren't just in sales, they're in line too.
