Russia Bans Pornhub, YouPorn - Tells Citizens To Meet Someone In Real Life (arstechnica.com)

Russia has blocked two of the biggest porn websites. The Russian state watchdog Roskomnadzor, which oversees internet in the country, announced that it was blockeing Pornhub and YouPorn. When a Russian citizen asked on Twitter about an alternative, it replied; "as an alternative you can meet someone in real life,". From a report: The regulator dropped the banhammer on Tuesday, applying rules which had previously been imposed by two separate regional courts. Any Russian citizen visiting PornHub or YouPorn is now redirected to a simple message telling them that the sites have been blocked "by decision of public authorities." Sexually explicit material isn't illegal in the country, but according to the BBC's Vitaliy Shevchenko, the law confusingly appears to ban "the illegal production, dissemination, and advertisement of pornographic materials and objects."

And no one bothers to enforce these 'too silly to enforce' laws because everyone is in on it. They are usually banned not to actually forbid Russians from viewing them but to send a message to the website because they apparently did something to upset Kremlin.

Only the western media takes these things at face value and spins them into how horribly oppressed the Russian people are. While in another article the same media outlet advocates for stricter sanctions against Russia.

Preface: I am married and reasonably happily.

Women are incongruent with men in most cases, once you get past the hormone stage of needing a sexual partner. You can see this in the divorce rates and marriage rates.

The overoptimism in the article about divorce rates is counteracted by the much lower marriage rates in younger cohorts of the population. With that said, a lot of people are living together without doing the marriage thing, which is fine, and not captured in the statistics. But I have two takeways. First, people aren't pairing up as consistently as in the past, by a relatively large number. Second, the very reason people aren't marrying (or pairing up) is that they want to be free to move on when they think it is time - ie, not making a lifelong commitment.

Women have to blame something for this, for the idea of having a lifelong partner is an ingrained female desire. Just anecdotally, I have a lot of sisters and two daughters - every one of them wants a long term relationship with a man with the same passion a geek has for his geekery. And they're not finding as many takers now as in the 80s, just a bunch of guys wanting a quick fuck. Porn is one place women could lay the blame, though I don't think that is correct. They are switching cause and effect. The porn is a substitute to take care of the hormonal desires. The reason men don't want to pair up with them long term is that it isn't seen as a value proposition.

Examining why having a wife isn't considered a value proposition for most men is going to turn up some interesting data. I don't think there is a silver bullet here, but the tendency over the last fifty years for the law to favor women in _all_ disputes relating to marriage probably didn't help. Another issue is that having children isn't considered a value proposition, either, and that was a significant justification for marriage in the past.

This is a bit of a simplification.

Here is some interesting reading from around 1907.

      Some excerpts

Let us first take our existing marriage laws. We shall find that in England whilst the woman is practically relieved of all responsibility for the maintenance of her husband, he can be compelled by poor law to maintain her under a penalty of three months’ hard labour for leaving her without provision, should she choose to apply to the parish. On anything that by latitude of interpretation can be deemed ill-usage or neglect, she can, if rich, obtain judicial separation with alimony from the divorce court, or, if poor, a magisterial order for separation with weekly maintenance from the police court. Jackson versus Jackson has decided that a wife can leave her husband at will, that he cannot raise a finger to compel her to remain with him or to come back, neither can she be imprisoned for contempt of court for refusing to obey an order for restitution of conjugal rights; in other words, it is decided that the contract of marriage is the single case of a contract which one of the contracting parties is at liberty to break without reason given, and without compensating the other party. But it is well to remember that it is only one of the parties that has this liberty, for Bunhill versus Bunhill gives the wife the right to follow an absconding husband and break into his house, if necessary, for the purpose of compelling cohabitation. He, on his part, is precluded by the decision in Weldon versus Weldon from obtaining restitution of conjugal rights even by way of action; he is liable, however, for his wife’s postnuptial torts, so that she has only to slander or libel some person without his knowledge or consent, and whilst she comes off scot free, even though possessed of property, the husband can be cast in damages. Trespass to land, trespass to goods, injuries done through negligence, all these actions coming under the legal definition of “torts,” render the husband liable, no matter what private wealth the wife may possess.

Turning now from the civil law to the criminal law, we find a similar – or even greater – disparity of treatment. From the beginning of the nineteenth century, of course, whilst flogging, the tread-mill, and other brutal forms of punishment have been retained for male offenders, they have been abolished for females, so that though a man may be subjected to torture and degradation for mere breaches of prison discipline, a woman is exempted from them for the most heinous crimes. As happened a few years ago in Ireland, a woman may torture her children to death and there is no outcry for the lash, yet surely if you do not flog the female child-torturer you have no right to flog any other human being. The sex-favouritism of modern penal law is made more conspicuous by the ever-recurring howl of the “base, bloody, and brutal” grand juror for the lash to be applied to new classes of offences (for men of course). But the most atrocious instances of sex-privilege occur in connection with the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1885. Whilst the abduction of a girl under eighteen, or the seduction of one under sixteen, involves the man concerned in serious penalties, the girl or the woman gets off scot free, and this even though she may have been the inciting party. This is carried to the extent that a young boy of fourteen may be himself induced to commit a sexual offence by a girl just under sixteen – that is to say, nearly two years his senior – and he can be sentenced to imprisonment, followed by several years in a reformatory, whilst the law holds the inciting girl absolutely

Option 2 matters a lot less than you imagine if you're a guy. Sure, a woman who lowers her standards far enough can get laid at any time she desires. Women have higher standards than guys on average, though. A guy can drop his standards to "breathing human female" and still strike out. Why? Because all the 1's and 2's are holding out for guys that are at least 7's. Just as evolution dictated. The marginal cost for reproduction for a male is a couple grams of protein and a few minutes. The basic pattern is:
Friendly: make a joke or two.

Curious: Ask about her, some special jewelry she's wearing or whatever. Note *be* curious, don't *pretend* to be curious. Ask how her day is going and actually listen to the answer. From there find something you'd wouldn't mind listening to her talk about for 5 minutes - maybe you find out she's writing a dissertation or a book. That could be interesting.

Busy: Glance at your watch, tell an incoming caller you'll call them back, or even better get interrupted by a passerby (or two) saying hi.

Busy but curious: "I have to get going because some people are waiting on me, but I'd really like to talk to you some more. I'd like to hear more about (topic you discovered). This is a pretty busy week for me, but I think I can get away for an hour at lunch, maybe Wednesday or Thursday. Do you have an hour to grab some lunch later this week?"

The wording of the last bit is quoted because there are a lot of aspects to why those exact words are chosen, in that order. I stated twice that the proposed lunch is an hour, she's not committing to a long evening of a potentially bad date. Also, I only have an hour; I'm a bust man, with important things going on. Busy enough that I have to leave now, I'm breaking off the conversation. That is, there's no worry that I'll become an annoyance whom she'll have trouble getting rid of - if she's not interested, there are other people already waiting for me, probably because those other people like being around me, because I'm a likable guy.

Is this a bit manipulative? Maybe, though I do try to actually mean what I say, to be interested in what she says as opposed to being fake, pretending. Some guys use their money to attract women, other guys use their muscles, I used my brain. If that's bad, so be it.

A philandering son is advantageous and more likely to be produced by a philandering father. The woman's general strategy then is to *marry* the non-philanderer who will support her and her children while philandering herself.

She *knows* the maternity of her children but the father cannot be so sure. This shows up with maternal grandparents being more generous than paternal grandparents.

What shorts this all out is medical tests which can reveal to the father whether the children are actually his. Women should be fighting against allowing paternity tests if they want to hold these advantages. In some cases the law already does this.

Now you know why they are so eager to marry Americans.
