People Are Drilling Holes Into Their iPhone 7 To 'Make a Headphone Jack' (craveonline.com)
TechRax -- a popular YouTuber who destroys technology for fame and riches -- has uploaded a video where he drills a hole into an iPhone 7, claiming it to be a "secret hack" to reinstall a headphone jack in the device. The only problem is that he didn't tell people it was a joke, and of course, some people fell for it. Crave Online reports: The YouTube video has amassed over 7.5 million views since being posted online last week, with it attracting 81,000 dislikes in the process. The comments section is currently torn between people who are in on the joke, people who criticize TechRax for damaging his iPhone 7, and most unfortunately, people who have tried the "hack" out for themselves. Although this is YouTube so you can never be quite sure of whether or not these folks are trolling, parsing the comments section reveals some pretty convincing complaints lobbed in TechRax's direction. It's also firmly believable that there are people dumb enough to attempt drilling a hole into their iPhone 7, which is unfortunate but that's the way the world is in 2016. You can read the comments under the YouTube video for more "convincing complaints." But as if the report didn't make it clear enough already, the video is a joke. Apple removed the headphone jack and there's no way to get it back, unless you use an adapter.

You have to be stupid to buy an iPhone in the first place, so how can you expect them not to be stupid enough to fall for this?
i drilled the hole, just lime he showed in the video. you noobs just don't know how to do it.
Am I on Digg?
After you drill the hole for the 3.5mm head phone jack, you have to purchase a special iPhone plug to make it waterproof again. I'd be willing to sell you the plugs for $10 each.
Mark
There's absolutely zero proof anyone has done it bar the video. Yet it's being reported as fact?
Between this sort of "news" and the click bait SJW stuff (no not all the discrimination is SJW) I'm wondering why I bother anymore.
Shell of what it once was.
But is not even remotely as simple as it appears from the video. You need to carefully drill the whole exactly at the place shown in the video. That's because (obviously) they only covered it up and didn't physically remove the headphone connector - why would they, costs like a few pennies, much more expensive to redesign the board. Try it out for yourself, if you do it the right way it works!
Wait that actually was true... with floppy disks.
Don't believe everything you read... Don't believe everything you seen on tv... Don't believe everything you watch on the internet...
Yes, it's unfortunate some who are more gullible now have bricked products. BUT, there are companies who take these devices and disassemble as soon as possible, to disseminate the information for those who can make money repairing them. A few minutes of research or second thought would have prevented something like this.
Perhaps now some of them might spend some time researching something before just blindly believing it was true. And maybe using this to fine tune their BS filter. One can only hope.
If enough gullibles drill out their iphone 7s, maybe Apple will consider putting the goddamned thing back in next time around.
The "Civilized World" jumped the shark ca. 1973.
If you're ignorant enough to buy a $700 cellphone that comes with no headphone jack, then chances are you're ignorant enough to take a power drill to it. You'll find my sympathy somewhat lacking here.
Good people go to bed earlier.
I hear in Florida their going to drill their ballots to avoid chads.

You'd think that, that many views would tell apple that people would like the headphone jack to remain. But I know they don't care. Hopefully other manufacturers will realize this and not remove it too. Regardless, I have no plans to get a new phone until my currently 2 generation old phone dies.
Courage
I don't mean if you believed the drill guy, I mean if you believe this story about other people believing him is real.
People like to tell a good story, to be seen on youtube, etc. Even if you think everyone is dumber than you you have to be a bit smarter than to fall for this.

It would be courageous of Apple to allow people to return phones for a full refund if they didn't know it lacked this basic feature.

You need a headphone jack like you need a hole in the head.

I was surprised that It still worked (the phone not the jack) but considering it did they apparently didn't do anything with the space they saved.
Minimum threshold fixed. Thanks!
if you are dumb enough to buy a product that does not meet your requirements, THEN are even are even dumber to follow the first asshole telling you how to "magically fix" problem #1 just go walk out in front of a bus already and do the world a favor you twat
I've been grammared! and to think I actually incorrected it because I started to write "there" and thought better of it.

The 5.25" 360k Full height Single sided drives that were in the OG IBM XT computers could put twice as much on a Double Sided Disk, if you cut the notch on the opposite side of the case.
As was said, you couldn't write to the other side of the disk without cutting a notch out of the case. :)
The capacity of the drives went to 1.2MB, Still single sided, then 720k and 2.44MB, just before the conversion of pretty much everything to 3.5" disks.
One thing I've noticed; 30 years in, some of my old 5.25 disks read just fine, few of the newer 3.5 disk set worked. :)

Wait until he brings out the followup where he shows you how to find the hidden media card reader by using a Dremel on the side of the iPhone 7 Plus!
YMBNH. The jokes are the comments. There are the fools that can't get politics out of their heads, trolls trolling trolls, and someone managed to godwin one of the threads.

Frankly I'm surprised that the people who are willing to dish out $400+ every 1.5 - 2 years for a new phone would bat an eye over buying the new wireless ear buds that apple is selling right next to them at the store.

It happens to the best of us. The Three T's are a tricky bunch.
They added a plastic sound channeler? in place of it

IIRC their 1st gen ipod touch didn't even have a built in speaker but it did have a headphone jack.
ergo being able to hear it was more important than being able to kinda hear it or atleast it was at one point in time.
Minimum threshold fixed. Thanks!
but drilling a hole will let all the courage out.
....to fall for buying yet another iPhone are dumb enough to take this as a serious suggestion.
I refuse to believe anyone actually did this.
If it is really true then I wish he had shown people how to drill a USB port into their forehead
Hmm...I just got an idea for a Youtube video!
Quiet, that A/C might be listening, and I won't get to watch anymore.
I never thought the day would come that I would miss Timothy and kdawson.
How stupid must you be to think that drilling a hole in a device will result in a headphone jack? Technical education seems to be ineffective. At least with some people.

Facts are history now plebs have politics for religion on social media.
So the user completed step One..... now the tricky bit is Step 2, which is to attach some wires to the solder pads they removed the headphone jack component from, attach the opposite ends of the wire to a headphone receptacle, and mount the headphone receptacle to the whole you drilled.
That's not global. The carriers where I am won't do it.

I went further and drilled a hole for a 1/4" jack. Success! I now can use my expensive Bosendorfer headphones. Now I'll try it on my dog's iPhone (I got him eight of them) using a Bantam (TT) jack. If this works I might next try it with banana plugs.
Truly hilarious
That's not global. The carriers where I am won't do it.
So you have to pay return shipping because of the carriers not honoring their agreements?
1. How is that Apple's fault?
2. How much can it possibly cost to ship a 4 ounce iPhone?
3. You can afford an iPhone, yet you can't afford return shipping? Riiiight...
4. Prove it.
Return shipping is a pain in the ass, for the time it takes you will be without a phone. Also, it is worthless unless the carrier allows you out of the contract, which they won't. You will be forced to choose another phone from their selection.

Don't tell me about 1 and 3.. It's the people drilling holes in their phones that I'm talking about. I go android and I'm always happy with it.

Yes indeed, it looks like a certain stupidity helps to stomach Apple products.
So stupid. Apple didn't cover up the jack, they removed it.
You have to buy a jack at an electronics store and glue it to the side of the phone.
I did it, and it works fine. Sound's a little faint unless you turn the volume up all the way.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to the cargo plane I'm building out of rocks and bamboo.
I drilled my phone, but all I got is an old analog video-out jack.
Did I drill at the wrong place ?
Or do you need a special "Apple"-branded drill bit for this hack to work ?
