Microsoft Fights Fake News With NewsGuard Integration in Its Mobile Edge Browser (pcworld.com)
In a bid to fight fake news read while on your phone, Microsoft's mobile Edge browser on Android and iOS now includes the NewsGuard extension. From a report: The addition needs to be toggled on within the Edge settings menu to be enabled. Once it is, Edge will display a small shield icon next to the site's URL in the search bar: a green shield with a checkmark for a trusted news site, and a red shield with an exclamation point inside of it for a site that NewsGuard believes isn't always accurate. (Some sites haven't been evaluated, and these will simply show a gray shield.)
So, how much do you think it would cost for sites to pay M$ to trust it.

The problem with this NewsGuard extension is that the more likely someone is to need it, the less likely they are to want it (and the more likely they are to actively dislike the idea of it).

Gpovernment sponsored fake news outlets like the BBC (the BBC was at the forefront of pushing Tony Blair's now well documented lies about Iraq that Blair used as 'justification' for invading that nation) get a perfect score from Newsguard, as does the despised Fabian mouthpiece, The Guardian newspaper. Outlets that opppose and expose neoliberal war-mongering are, of course, given terrible ratings by Newsguard.
So the SECULAR Middle East states that were targeted for extermination (Syria, Libya, Iraq, Yemen etc) to allow Saudi Wahhabi forces to impose women/gay hating regimes to benefit Iz-real, are all demonised by 'news' outlets with 'perfect' scores by Newsguard.
Of course this weekend we literally witnessed the Newsguard approved fake news outlets literally accuse a boy of FACECRIME (the neoliberal 'crime' described in Orwell's 1984) for just standing passively when a George Soros agitator stormed into his face and attempted to intimidate him, while Soros camera-people carefully shot demonising footage that could be carefully edited to give a fake narrative about the event. Needless to say, none of the Newsguard approved outlets published the full and complete hours of video footage that clearly showed the progesssion of the George Soros sponsored spy-op.

Who determines what is "fake news"?
This should scare people. Don't they realize we are ASKING businesses/governments to make judgement calls of what is fake news? Translation: People are asking these entities to censor what they feel is fake news.
This seems like a dangerous idea to me. Heavens know a business will not call something it doesn't like to be fake news. Nor would a government who doesn't agree with certain ideas would call something fake news.

I knew right away Microsoft's opinion was worthless when I followed the link in the summary and saw Breitbart flagged. Yes, Breitbart has a right-leaning bias, but it's like an antidote to the main stream media's false and biased reporting.
You all probably don't see it because of your hatred for everything Trump, but in my nearly 66 years I've never seen so much hatred for a president from the press, a press that's SUPPOSED to be unbiased.

I wish all people would approach all new with skepticism and do a bit of homework before believing mydumbnews.com, but that isn't going to happen.
While the Daily Mail follows the SAME neo-liberal warmongering agenda of slashdot, it does have a habit of far more comprehensive reporting of world news than the BBC or other blairite-beloved outlets.
The BBC and other 'perfect' green score neoliberal outlets use the old PUSH NEWS trick of using a tiny number of news slots to NEVER report on 'difficult' stories that are hard to spin. Like a library that only has room for 100 books.
On the other hand, the Daily Mail has an extraordinary number of news-slots each day, and even tho 'difficult' stories are relegated to slots away from the main page, they do get covered. Indeed, this is the main way the Daily Mail grows its own 'five eyes' pleasing audience.
While slashdot preaches to self-satisfied dribblers, statist propaganda operations are vastly more sophisticated. Newsguard is aimed at literal cretins. But the Deep State has many targets, of whom the dribblers of slashdot are but a small minority.
The 'problem' with Newsguard is that it makes the mechanism of Orwellian control too upfront. But the 'fightback' will be mostly seen from FAKE anti-statist outlets that themselves are really part of the same Orwellian continuum.
The REAL story was the Soros psy-op pushing civil war in the USA this last weekend, when Soros had some of his agitators intimidate a bunch of schoolkids. This event had the ironic result of proving how FAKE NEWS most outlets are, when these outlets jumped on Soros sponsored tweets to demonise the children for political gain.

Maybe we should stop giving credibility to bloggers, journalism hacks, and stories that lack any factual presentations. Some people seem OK with tabloid style journalism just because it supports their belief system. Doesn't matter if a hint of it is true, factual or has any real credible sources. So the solution is fake news filters? Maybe demand better journalism would be a better option.

Now, if the government and people are afraid too many will be fooled...then all that money they take from us by force to indoctrinate our kids must be getting wasted doing that instead of teaching critical thinking and other useful skills - we make them so stupid they take out huge non recourse loans and overpay to get degrees in things that there are no jobs doing, in an economy that now requires every adult in a household to have a job just to get by, unlike when I grew up - proof right there.

For those that have not used Newsguard its a useful tool. Newsguard has done significant research and offers a comprehensive profile and a reason to believe/not believe the news source. If they come up with strikes against a news outlet they give that outlet the opportunity to refute their findings before the integrate the information into the their app.
Sadly they are blocking one of my favorite sites: Jihadwatch.org. No I don't use Edge. But Jihadwatch put up a story on it.

They also used edited video to inflame huge numbers of people against some highschool kids visiting DC several days ago to the point that numerous people were making DEATH THREATS against those kids, and they'd have gotten away with it had the entire video not surfaced.
I judge any Mexican restraunt on its rolled chicken tacos; if they're good, then the rest of the menu will be good or even great, but if they get those wrong then the rest is likely poor.
