Sony Cracks Down On Sexually Explicit Content In Games (engadget.com)

Slashdot reader xavdeman writes: Hot on the heels of its announcement of the specifications of the next PlayStation, Sony has revealed a new crackdown on explicit content. Citing "the rise of the #MeToo movement" and a concern of "legal and social action" in the USA, Sony has said it wants to address concerns about the depiction of women in video games playable on its platform as well as protect children's "sound growth and development." The new rules were reportedly already responsible for puritan cutscene alterations in the Western PS4 release of the multi-platform title Devil May Cry 5, where lens flares were used to cover up partial nudity.

If you've got a bunch of women in running around with chainmail bikinis and DDD busts, the men should get the same treatment and be sexualized for women's consumption - dump the power fantasy presentation and lets see the sweet, sensitive eyes, pouty lips, and a F'ing extra-large fruit-basket clearly outlined in their tight fitting speedos.

Healthy exposure means having prescribed limits. The average male that I've known since then, started talking about sex when they were 12, and unlike Japan (where bathhouses and hotsprings are a culturally relevant thing) out in North America, only people who live in Alaska, Yukon, BC, or Washington have ready access to (naked) hotsprings in that way. The rest of the US and Canada, the first introduction to sexualized nudity before the internet was finding a parents porn, or witnessing/hearing their parents fucking. If you never went to a public pool, you likely haven't seen anyone naked.

The average female however, thinks boys are gross, and you know why boys are gross? Because they talk about sex as though it was a conquest or a game. Boys talk about sex like it makes them more of a man, or the amount of people they fuck gives them some kind of power over women. Women on the other hand, outside of a small number of people who could easily be described as sex addicts, tend to just not give a shit about sexual experience of other women, and mostly only care about a man knowing what hole their dick goes in. Because believe me, there is a lot more fictional sex acts out there in books, comics, and paintings that the person who wrote or drew it, has no fucking clue what a dick or a vulva look like.

A vulva (vagina) is not a coin slot. There is a clitoris. A clitoris has the same nerves and skin as the tip of the penis. The foreskin is the same type of skin the Clitoral hood and Labia Minora. A woman with a very large erect clit looks like she has a 1" penis.

That's the kind of thing that even grown adults still don't grasp, because of the "ooh icky" taboo factor of sex. So even a 40 year old adult might not recognize that their sex partner is a real man or woman because their anatomy is weird.

The two fantasies tend to be very different, and you only need to look at the target audience (and gender of the character designers) to get a pretty good idea which it is.

Well do I have to play your game on a playing field others own and have appointed refs to?

Am I allowed to look at whether gay men want to fuck the characters in the Gears (Bears) or War series? It is the best "between the lines" homoerotic romance in the gaming world. Bears and muscle daddies for everyone!

With the rarity of women who are straight (by man rules" I mean a man is not "straight" is he likes making out/fondling/sex with other men) how do women who want to fuck or be fucked by female characters count towards this fantasy?

Yeah. this comes down to power. when it comes to being strong in their evolutionary power base (the thing that decided their form and function) men specialize in violence and women specialize in sex. Neither specializes in intelligence, smart is a high risk behavior due to caloric requirements.
Now when I say this things get funny. You see for close to 3000 years there has been a war on women, this war vilifies women and their power base. This means that if you suggest women own sex, people froth and scream at you due to thousands of years of conditioning.
So now men can tune in and get stuff that caters to their power base admired and lionized. TV is coated in violence. Proxies for violence like sports are huge. Actual violence like fighting sports is big too. War? War is awesome! Men won.
Sex? OMG, Women need to cover up! If a child sees a nipple they will go straight to hell! Don't be a slut Becky! Sex bad! Sex is for making babies! Sure women's magazines are all about sex but women lost the war. Sex vilification is also used for infighting among women as their fights tend to be social, where as men.. yeah, the violence.

Where it gets interesting is when people figure out that humans love the powerful. You take a woman who is powerful in her base, then make her powerful in the man's base and then add in the intelligence power base and you have Motoko Kusanagi from anime. People love her.
It is more rare for them to do this with men but when it does happen you get Sepheroth. People love him.

So weird that we have normalized violence = good, sex = bad. Violence when done well leaves someone hurt/injured/dead. Sex when done well leaves at least 2 people happy. Both when done poorly can lead to comedy.
When I say "normalized" mean that people's conditioned responses will reflect the views I have mentioned.

If sex moved from evil to good the world would be very different... including video games. Being a sex object would be just as great as being a violence object. Being sexy would be just as great as being an "ass kicker"/bad ass. I still think your beloved characters will draw from all power bases. Children of Motoko Kusanagi and Sepheroth.

I've never understood why so many people buy playstations.

Because they are fun and offer a lot of entertainment for the money.

They have a lot of great exclusive games, and more importantly to me, have some really interesting fringe stuff that is like indie stuff done with a higher budget.

I like to compare two large scale games to help demonstrate the difference as well - Horizon Zero Dawn, and The Witcher 3.

I have both for the PS4, the Witcher 3 I know was very popular with PC gaming friends. But to me, even playing it on a console it had way, way too much micromanagement and gear wear mechanics to make in enjoyable - even though I loved the Witcher books, and found the game story very interesting.

Horizon Zero Dawn was way more tuned to someone who wanted a pretty long adventure, but more time spent enjoying the world and learning mechanics of the game rather than drudgery. It sure seems like most of the PC exclusives are heavily into drudgery in a way that turns me off now.

They're so limited and not even that much cheaper than a decent gaming PC

Here's the thing, I've had gaming PC's before. They are only cheaper, as the old saying goes, if your time is worth nothing.

I don't have a lot of time during the week I can play games currently. So have to have any of that sucked into the nightmare that is Windows /driver maintaining... well, not worth the tradeoff for the few advantages you would get from a PC exclusive.

By the time you've bought 3-5 AAA games on steam vs PS4 games

I don't see how that helps make the PC cheaper since AAA titles on PC or steam are all very expensive. I usually wait some time before buying most games to get a bit of a discount (there are some exceptions).

To those with the time an energy to invest in PC gaming, I salute you and am sure you will have some amazing experiences (especially visually, I've watched a number of videos of the ray tracing stuff starting to be delivered and it looks amazing). But I am extremely happy limiting myself to consoles for now, and can have some amazing experiences there as well.

If you don't pirate your OS add $100 (you can find shady Win 10 keys for $20 bucks online otherwise, and I've heard they work).

So you're pushing $400 to hit 720p/60 in low tier titles and you've had to shop around to do that. I can do more than that on a stock PS4 for $200 bucks. I can get a PS4 pro for $400 and do entry level 4k.

And if you want 1080p/60 in AAA titles? $300 for board/CPU (a Ryzen 2600x + decent board), $50 for ram, $100 for hard disk + SSD (trust me, you'll need it), $100 for a decent case/power supply and $200 for your GPU. You should probably buy nVidia since you skimped a bit on your power supply, but if you plunk another $30-$40 down you can get an RX580 and knock $20 off your GPU. It's mostly a wash.

Talk to me in 10 years when integrated graphics can do 1080p/60 in AAA titles, if that happens (it might, there's new tech for doing a the GPU side in a CPU). Anyone who read and understood 1984, and then researched Orwell's long standing relationship with various forms of leftist politics in the early 20th century, would understand how monsterous Sony's actions are, and the actors behind the curtain driving Sony's SJW policies.

The ancient thinkers (and we're talking 3000 years ago) were well aware of the hopeless vulnerabilities in so-called 'democratic' societies when evil actors could subvert said societies by selling certain control messges to the 'mob' (what we call sheeple today).

It is easy to rile up the mob with meaningless but FASHIONABLE concepts the hard-of-thinking mob is currently wild about. Twisting the knife in issues of Human sexuality is an especially common technique. To the Deep State actors, it doesn't matter if the knife goes anti or pro- whatever currently works.

So today it is the 'NEW PURITANISM', as seen before with the worst and most depraved religious cults that first travelled to the New World (North America) because their despicable anti-Human pseudo-religious philosophies were playing every worse in a Europe being affected by the Age of Enlightenment. NO- early America was not about 'religious freedom' but the abilty of very vile cults to safely create communities where their leaders could impose the most twisted 'laws' on the helpless members of that community.

The current Deep State leaders are not puritanical in their own lives- indeed they are the exact opposite. But this garbage currently plays well with the rabble that still feeds from the teat of mainstream media (filthy outlets like this one).

Before the net, Britain BANNED the most vanilla explicit p-ornography- so do not buy the neoliberal sh-it about "policing the extreme". The claim that censorship is a necessary evil cos of the 'extreme', as seen daily in the press of the UK, NZ and Australia, is the standard method of engaging hard-of-thinking b-etas. Look at any society where censorship is well established, and you'll see censorship NEVER stops at 'the extreme', but is about the everyday.

Women and ethnic 'politicians' are favoured by the Deep state demons in the West cos these two groups have no fundamental belief in freedom of anything. The philosophy of wanting Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Conscience, and Freedom of Assembly is ALPHA only, pretty much male only, pretty much West only. Everyone else- especially you b-etas here, think these Freedoms are good in 'theory' only, and in practice you think these Freedoms too 'dangerous' to implement.

The 'new' politicians of the West, who certainly don't represent the West, see these Freedoms as archaic symbols of 'white' 'male' control. Their Deep State puppet masters (who are all pretty much white males), have no problem pulling their strings and having them howl that people MUST be imprisoned for long periods for sharing current event video footage (see the horror who rules in New Zealand, and her stated disgust at the idea of free expression and free access to historic data).

It should not be so, but the end of the Age of the well educated White Male politician in the West is the end of modern democracy.

Sony is thusly more than happy to go along with the meme that males who enjoy looking at sexualised material are 'sick' and 'evil'. The same meme existed in German society when H-itler was in power. The n-azis had their own weaponised SJW movement very similar to that of today, and the support of women's groups was an essential part of the German war machine. N-azi Germany was puritanical and ruthlessly censored- the opposite of German society immediately before H-itler took power.

There is good reason Deep State linked groups ruthless attack any mention of n-azi Germany when considering recent Deep state activity, and the meme ('godwin's 'law'') that has been so carefully sold to B-etas is to help ensure b-etas cannot learn from history.

Yes. That is not the thing they are complaining about. It's the coercion, the Weinsteins, the "sorry but to advance your career as an actor you are going to have to get your tits out".

But this is *uncritically* removing media *only* because they contain "tits out". It's in no way examining the process to see if any women were coerced into doing something they didn't want... and indeed, in this case the tits are far more likely to be computer generated. So what does any of this have to do with the casting couch or sexual assault? No, this is explicitly, overtly passing judgment that sexual content in media is bad and TFS says they chose to adopt this attitude because of #MeToo.

I maintain that this sort of across the board, un-nuanced demonization of sexual content in media is a form of slut shaming that harms women even if it's being done in their name, because on some level it makes millions of females feel guilty about ever behaving in a way that they've been told leads to the objectification not just themselves, but also somehow all women in general.

The in-practice goals beign pursued and the paternal (a word I use advisedly), sanctimonious tones of voice are extremely similar to the Christian right. The religious right has always attacked female sexuality by talking about self-respect, and the narrative of objectification has the same message at its very core--"don't you want to be more than just a set of tits? if you take your tits out, aren't you afraid people will think less of you?"

This is all candy coated with a narrative of evil masculinity and other identity politic warfare nonsense, but the implications are clear enough. Sony is not concerned for exploited actresses. Sony doesn't care where the tits came from (and indeed, we're most likely talking about 2d cartoons and 3d models with jiggle physics here, not live actresses.)
