While this is true in theory, certain letters can still be ambiguous when pronounced over the phone. B and P in particular can be confused with each other, but many other consonants are pronounced with an ee ending. Exactly. I work as a maintenance foreman in a metal stamping plant where we have five press lines designated A - E respectively. Over the years common usage has become Apple, Boy, Charlie, Dog and Echo just to prevent confusion. I am constantly having to explain to new operators that A, B, C, D, & E all sound pretty well the same over the radio. Add in all of the various accents from the ESL employees.....

What I haven't heard explained is why then I can't just purchase a box of OS X and install it on my PC. Why then do people need to patch and hack OS X to install on standard x86 PCs? If Apple wasn't active in preventing it, it wouldn't require additional steps. From what I understand, Apple's main stance as far as software is concerned is that they don't want to support it their operating system on multiple platforms. On of the big problems with windows is that it has to be compatible with almost any hardware out there. This adds a high level of complexity to the OS. The more complexity there is the more chance there is for instability to creep into the system. Apple OS's have traditionally been much more stable because they are written to specifically work with a very limited range of hardware. The reason you have to hack and patch is because the OSX install looks for specific Mac firmware during install. The hacks get around this.

While it uses dollars, there are no presidents on the currency, but British royality (the queen, for example). MPs, and so forth. Parts of canada are still under french rule, and even french is spoken there, all though the french part is classified third-world.
Good Lord, where to start. Yes Canada is technically still under British rule, but for the most part we're an independant nation. The Queen is on our 20 dollar bill, but the rest of our paper currency has past Prime Ministers, our equivalent of the US President. Yes the original settlers of our country were the French but they were defeated by the British and did not sell the country. And while there is a significant French speaking population, primarily in the province of Quebec, no part of the country id under French rule. As for the French portions being classified third world, I can't even begin to fathom where you came across that piece of misinformation.

Sure, Ubuntu is great unless you're trying to get wireless networking running. Unless your particular NIC is one supported by default, you're out of luck. Sure there is a lot of documentation on using ndiswrapper to get your unsupported network card running but all of that documentation is online. Kind of puts the user in a catch 22 situation. While I'm not a huge Microsoft fan, (and am in fact a big fan of Linux) at least Windoze networking and internet access generally wsorks out of the box with little or no user intervention.

As I recall, when this levy on recordable media was put into effect, the purpose was to ensure that the artists would get the money to offset loss of revenue due to copying of recorded works. As such, I've never really had a problem with paying a few extra cents per blank disk providing the collected revenue went to the right place. (Of course it the system didn't address the difference between media purchased for burning data etc. but then, no system is perfect.) I find it interesting that nowhere is there any mention of giving the surplus cash to the people that deserve it.

Simple. Many people depend on the use of public wireless hot spots for internet access. In fact this very issue is probably the biggest stumbling block to Linux being a viable desktop OS for regular users. With Linux's emphasis on the use of the internet to install applications, receive documentation etcetera, I would think that emphasis on getting networking operational upon install should be one of the highest priorities of any distro.
