There were rumours a while back that Bungie were thinking of doing a MMOG, then someone spotted a job ad for at Bungie asking for "MMOG experience".
It'd make sense if Halo 3 is meant to wrap up the series, as Bungie/M$ can switch to a subscription based revenue stream to keep the franchise (and cash flow) going.
Even if it is a "last thing to consider", some of us still consider it.
If your stuck between two evils and can't decide based on the "big issues", who are you to tell people they can't decide based on games related issues?
I'll leave the facts that it has a bunch of Republicans and even an oil company CEO on the board, out of this.
I discounted the article as soon as I got to the bit where he claimed arctic temperatures are actually falling.
I mean, seriously, does this guy even believe himself? The fact that the icebreaker did the trip at the time of the year it did pretty well proves the point that the ice sheets are thinning. The bears are drowning due the long distances they now need to swim to get areas they used to be able to get to via a short swim and a long walk.
I, for one, am sick and tired of the corporate/political use of "science" to "prove" political points.
Real Science undergoes peer review and most "there is no global warming" (and it's funny little cousin the "OK, there may be global warming, but it's not causing extinctions or anything") usually get debunked.
Actually, copyright has pretty well become only a secondary consideration since the media companies, et al, successfully lobbied the introduction of the DMCA. Copyright infringement is a civil matter, DMCA is more serious, it doesn't matter what the copyright status of the "protected" material is under the DMCA.
If you try and reverse engineer the encoding/copy prevention, the government/police will be all over you, hence the "dragoon entire governments and police forces into acting as industry enforcers" comment I expect.
At least thats my understanding of it, your welcome to point out if I have any of that wrong.
Everquest 2:EoF (an expansion pack for the EQ2 game) isn't being released as a box set for the OS market. This means the ROTW (rest of the world) have to either get the digital download (if they don't care about all the usual extras that go with a boxed edition like collectables, maps, manuals, etc) or we have to import a boxed set from the US.
Another irony is that over the years Sony has "leaned" on online retailers like EB, Amazon, et al so they won't ship to Australia (even though we have a FTA with the US), so we have to go to even extra effort to track down a smaller online retailer to get it sent here.
Way to go Sony, your management is so incompetent they even fuck up fucking up, that's quite an achievement.
Hacked WoW accounts would be the least of peoples problems.
I work at an Australian uni and we've got people here that have had their bank accounts transfer $10k to someplace in Russia. Turns out they'd visited some dodgy site that installed a keylogger via an IE vulnerability and the keylogger sent thier bank account details home.
The bank reversed the transfers, but it took months for the folks to get their money back.
I don't know anyone using Firefox that has ever run into a similar problem.
When the guy says stuff like "You did not see the game, you don't even know what it was you saw." to the judge, I'm pretty sure he's a tad contemptuous of the court in actuality (I guess the case needs to be run to prove it legally, until then it's probably "alleged" or something).
God knows what else he said, he seems to have a pretty bad case of runoffthemouth disease and says much without thinking.
"Jackisms" (those "whacky" things Jack says) can be hours worth of endless amusmement.
I, like many others, always thought JT was just a nutcase with a chip on his shoulder, but maybe theres more to the guy and he's not really as inept as he seems?
*plucks conspiracy theory from bum*
Maybe he's secretly in the employ of a game publisher or perhaps a marketing company?
There are a lot of companies around these days that arrange viral marketing campaigns, and something like this would just be an extension on that type of thing.
Consider the sheer amount of coverage his antics recieve. And he always seems to lose the case (has he ever actually won a games related case??) even when they look like they might have some sort of merit at the start of the case.
Of course, maybe I'm just reading too much into the guy and he really is what he seems/shrug
I think there was an error in the quote used,
"could have decreased their CD purchases (prior to 2004) by about 13 percent due to Internet file sharing."
should actually read:
"could have decreased their CD purchases (prior to 2004) by about 13 percent due to World of Warcraft."
Much better...
While I enjoy many of the games that are out, and due out soon, I couldn't call this a Golden Age. My idea of a Golden Age is when the is fresh, has endless potential and everyone is exited about it. For me (other peoples milage may vary) the Golden Age for non-MMO games ended around the time of Civ (for MMO's it was after "The Big Three", EQ1, AC1 and UO). Not many games are around now that aren't just a variation on those themes/concepts. Current games will get better incrementally, but they just won't have that Golden Age "WOW I gotta get that!!" factor.
IMHO, the next Golden Age will be with the introduction of true VR, a la Star Treks holodecks. Not THAT will have major WOW factor...
Maybe "Halo Online"?

Hello? McFly?
It's posted by Zonk, of course it's anti-Sony...

"Republicans throw their gay rapists out."
Only the ones that get caught...
Lets see, should we believe the NCPA article?

There is some classic irony here.

....for the Reality TV show that will be based on the Barbie Diary Mysteries pro circut.
I'll finally have the perfect reason to abandon an outdated entertainment medium and move on the the net full time...
