This isn't about discontinuing them, in February RIM is releasing the new OS version. This leaves them with the choice to either recall the unsold units and reload the OS and repackage them, or get as many of them out there as they can now and avoid that cost. Either way it would mean a loss of money, but the more new users they pick up now the better in the long run. Once the newer ones come out with the new OS version loaded, who will buy old stock?
Sell the units now and let the users install the upgrade themselves.
Sure, if almost identical means half the processor, half the RAM of the lowest model, no camera's instead of two, no microphones, no bluetooth, and half the processor.
But hey...it's android so it will have Skype...oh, wait.

hmm...I think I'll just show up at an event and hold up an iPhone so I can capture the signal. Then I'll set up a rig with a few ir leds on my person and walk around transmitting it all the time.
I'll become invisible to all hipsters.
Sales of wax cylinders, reel-to-reel tapes, and 8-track tapes continue to drop. When questioned about the drop of new wax cylinder users from 9 to 7, the RIAA stated that the deaths of those two consumers were indeed not from thier advanced ages of over 100, but rather caused by "Pirates" attempting to hurt their profit margins.
The RIAA was optimistic about the increase in clay pot recordings with the recent fad in "accoustic archeology" and hoped to once again start producing new releases in this format in Q4 2009. Questions concerning the validity of such archaic technology were pushed aside with "If the format fails, it because of the Pirates".
make sure you have at least 2 strands run to each point. With canges to cable services you may find yourself short pairs quickly. I didn't think of this when I had my place built and its a pain now to add an extra cable in some areas.
"..since they'd need to make a new factory.."
Why don't they just retool the engine plant they shut down in Ontario? People get to keep working, North America gets fuel efficient vehicles.
Are diesel vehicles a problem in the states? Serious question, I'm not familiar with all the various enviro laws.
Just a bit of a paranoid answer.
The fact that your name matches the domain name is proof in itself that you are not a squatter and you have a legit claim to it.
I'd go for it, just don't get crazy in the amount and it will likely go smoothly.
When Lucas made the first 3 his people developed new cutting edge special effects, but because it was all so time consuming and difficult they had to be frugal in their use. The effects were there to support the elements of the story. The movies therefore had to bring their points across with real storylines and acting ability. Elements had to be left to the imagination.
Now, since CGI effects are a dime a dozen, he can throw them in everywhere he wants. Now the storyline and characters are just supporting elements for all the "cool" visual effects. He doesn't want anyone to imagine anymore, he wants to spoon feed you everything the way he sees it.
Maybe a braindead audience is easier to sell "made in taiwan" toys to?
It drives our users nuts because it does hog some resources and it takes time to decrypt on the fly, but when they won't listen, you have to force them to be safe with the data. We also use a system that allows us to use our domain password rules and force complex passwords of a minimum length. Some really hate that, but tough, its for the good of the company.
No personal thumbs drives, no personal laptops on the network, CD burning only for certain people, no floppy drives, etc.
We work with some very sensitive data so even all of that is barely keeping up with government auditors.
And that is just for the little files they may take with them.
If we are going to make the quotas for women in male dominated sciences, how about we apply equality quotas to all fields, male or female dominated?
I worked as a health professional for 4 years in a female dominated field before returning to school for my Comp Sci Degree. In my graduating class of 40 I was one of 3 males to graduate, and the only one to work in the field at all. The other two gave up and left the field after not being able to be hired. (although I did have some good weekends in that educational program)
So where are the male equity incentives for things like nursing, lab techs, elementary school teachers, etc? All I saw were restrictions banning me from performing certain procedures on female patients (no equivilant the other way around), sexual harrassment because as a sole male in a department you are supposed to be man enough to take it, and so on.
In my degree program I saw all the summer jobs go the female students even though they had much lower marks than me and no experience, and even had one "chesty" classmate that always managed to get extensions (pun intended) on pretty much every assignment or project in our mutual classes. Funny how a geeky Comp Sci prof will predictably react to a good view of cleavage.
Mr. Benson is also probably the type to build a house and move in before the carpets are laid or the plumbing is connected. 'Cause hell, the floor is going to get dirty anyways and there's a hole in the bathroom floor you can shit through.
"The ISS, you see, is already an interplanetary spacecraft -- at least potentially. It's missing a drive system and a steerage module, but those are technicalities." (From Article)
Perhaps he doesn't grasp the concept that just because something is able to be maintained operational in orbit, doesn't mean that you can strap a rocket on it's ass and expect the same level of reliability while moving it further away from it's maintenance source. Alot more spare parts would have to be packed, alot more food stored on it as well as much greater volumes of water. The logistics of getting those things to something in low earth orbit are much easier than pushing it out to the moon so you would have to ensure resonable reserves. While he's making comments like, that he might as well say you can stick a snorkel on it and turn it into a submarine. After all, it's likely water tight.
giving the idiots on my local streets even more ways to distract themselves while driving is such a great idea. I would hate for any of them to get bored. Especially the girl that almost rear-ended me yesterday while using one hand to talk on her phone, the other to eat an apple, and was using whole body movements as emphasis for what she was saying on the phone.
Now, she'll be able to get a chrysler and maybe figure out how to use her toes to type and/or work a mouse so she can surf the net at the same time.
Media Defender Explains Itself:
Uhm, yeah. The FBI turned down our applications because we didn't meet the psych profiles, the state police said we weren't in good enough shape, the local police said we were kinda goofy lookin, and the local private security companies said we were just plain losers. So we made our own company where we pretend to be law enforcement and the record companies pay us obscene amounts to make stuff up to help their bogus cases.
lol, not bad, but I probably got her input on how awesome the drivers were in the first place. Not everyone lives in permanent fear of a system failure just because he passed a page containing other drivers.
Now I hope the bad floppy drive puns are at an end.

Yeah, because the iPAD and Fire have removable storage.

Handful of IRLEDs and an adruino and suddenly I'm invisible to all forms of digital imaging.
This is like buying a computer and then being told you can only run Windows on it.
Oh, you mean like buying an Apple product?

Tell them you are really a special operative and that this extremely boring stuff is just your cover.
Do anyone think there wil be any chance of apple opening up the firmware encryption on 6g units if iTunes goes down?
If they will no longer be providing music sales, would it not make sense to open it up so others can build fully compatible data loaders?

dang...wish I had mod points to give to this one. Very well put.
hmm...but who will be left to finally use the tag "told you so"?

no, you'll have to alternate winking each eye really fast to create your own shutter effect.

Wow, I'll be able to quickly remember on which page I saw that awesome set of ... uhm ... drivers, yeah, that's it drivers.
