Do these predictions really surprise anyone anymore?
Lets break it down a bit
There are maybe 10 manufacturers that produce 1-5 phone models using Android OS. 2 or 3 manufactures are gearing up to produce tablets intended to compete with the iPad
Apple has 3 devices of past and present generations that utilize iOS
Im pretty sure I can go find a kid in grade school who can show you that Android > Windows Phone > iOS. Do we really need these predictions every other week?
There was nothing wrong with hosting a music page back in the days of Myspace's popularity. As long as it was a public page anyone could go and view content. It was simple to design for because there were applets that let you pick color schemes, add pictures and arrange content with copy/paste ease of use. The addition of the video and music players let artists host content on myspace's dime
Just the other day I got an event invite on facebook for a "delete your account party"
The description said "hey people im deleting my facebook. you should too! you can reach me at...." he rambled off a bunch of email, IM, forum contacts and a voip. I made it a point that he shouldnt try to influence people to give up facebook just because does. I then pointed out that its counterproductive to replace x with y and z if they function exactly the same and everyone uses x anyway.
He didnt give a phone# or wanna resolve to hangout more in person, but his last contact was his myspace url. I was curious and clicked on it. Surprisingly enough it was current. It suffices to say that he didnt like what i had to say and got pissy, so i gave up.
I cant comment much on the.NET framework and its nuances, but the point and click nature of Visual Studio seems like it can be quite a crutch.
During my programming lessons with java and C++ I completed my assignments using Textpad. It's an editor with some minimalist IDE features. You can create a menu or a toolbar with options linked to a specific compiler like javac or gcc. Additionally, you can assign syntax definitions to certain file extensions for text coloring and highlighting
My highschool was a trade school where I "majored" in a computer science curriculum. Half of the curriculum was about networking and systems administration, and the other half of the program taught programming fundamentals. During my programming lectures we used a variety of languages. My freshman year we started with web development that included HTML, CSS and scripting with js and php. My first step into programming was with COBOL. I then used learned to use Visual Studio which included lessons in Visual Basic and Visual C++ From my sophomore year onward we used java almost exclusively. I also took a course in C++ as a substitute for my senior year's math course.
I have a basic understanding of programming concepts. I am in no way prepared to make it a day job. However, if i did pursue a career in the field and I brushed up on one of the high-level language this fool wouldnt hire me? So....I have experience with Visual Studio. That doesnt necessarily disqualify me from becoming an excellent Java programmer or C++ or maybe even plain old C *shudder*
If info was just open anyone could access anything at anytime. At least this way they know whose accessing what and when. Just because information is open doesnt mean it isnt sensitive. knowing who views what can have its advantages.
That article is talking about phones sold without a contract. Apple still has strict security policies in place to lock users into their app store. Phones are easily jailbroken, yes. The security is there though
The article is about a locked bootloader. Thats something that everyday consumers dont care about unless ofcourse the numpties at customer service hotlines blabber on about it(the case in EU?) It's in the realm of hackers and tinkeres
Whose to say the customer doesnt want the product? You're kidding yourself if you think hackers and tinkerers are a large part of any customer base outside dev products.
The only reason custom firmware and other general modifications have become a mainstream topic is because the minds behind the exploits release tools that are trivial to use. If there wasnt a "power on, point, click" sorta method the majority of people would continue to use the products as they were intended. You want something with added functionality? You try to find something that has that functionality included OEM. By and large, people are going to want a phone with talk, text and data. They dont care if they have to get apps from this market or that one. Side-loading? Whats that?
Thats not to say I dont appreciate what the hacker community puts out. It's great that they devise methods that are point and click or very detailed and simple to follow. BUT Im genuinely interested in this sorta thing. My neighbor, not so much.
Here is the Government regulated food program and I believe school health officials are permitted to give vaccines too. The local school district sends out flyers and pamphlets about early childhood vaccinations, why they're important and if you cant get them through your doctor that the school can provide them.
He's a marketing shill guys! Its his job to troll on games/platforms that his company doesnt develop for. Show me a competent developer(read: can/will develop for any platform) with the same opinion and I might start to believe it. Such a jack of all trades might not exist, but if they did they could accept work from Rovio on a mobile platform just as soon as they could accept work from WB on the next epic Mortal Kombat title. IMO this guy is comparing apples to oranges because the target audiences' are certainly different
When you start piling all you can onto a chip the power consumption is going to naturally creep up. Once you reach a certain threshold of x chips you lose on the benefit of ARM being "low-power." Am i wrong?
A manager doesnt necessarily need to be involved with technical aspects of day to day business, BUT if i have an issue with my work, my manager should know what im working on and have a basic idea of how it works. Either that, or they should be willing to listen.
im by no means a fanboy. I dont own an iDevice and i never will, because i prefer the alternatives
With that said...
If devs can write software that uses resources efficiently 512MB just might be plenty. Just because desktops take advantage of hexcore processors and 16GB of RAM doesnt mean a tablet should too. Additionally, it could be an energy saving measure. Im no expert on the matter, so i'd have to ask do higher capacity RAM chips consume more energy?
Im not saying this guy should not be punished, but they're using a law thats presumably far reaching to do it.
Consider the following....
Slashdot hosts a summary that links to an article behind a paywall. A third party then parrots the article somewhere else(giving proper attribution, but without consent) providing an infringing work. JoeSchmoe comes along to comment with a link to the parroted article. He can be charged the same way this guy is
This happens just about everytime theres a summary that links to a paywall. There's certainly a difference between a pirated movie and a reprint of an article, but the situation could be blown out of proportion and handled just like this.
btw....i might be taking this way off topic, but itsnt it bad form for ICE to use an image of their shield? I think it might have been a slashdot story, but i vaguely remember an article talking about how horribly illegal it was for someone to reproduce the FBI shield and, in fact, the FBI doesnt do it or allow it.
I really dont care how well a browser works on goatse
If there was a benchmark based on usage of a list of websites I can almost guarantee that list would be populated by money(corps/sites would pay their way onto the list) OR pranksters would do their best to fudge the list(widespread malware that helps put goatse at the top based on usage stats) A list of specific sites doesnt constitute the whole WWW
The fighting itself is still rather silly, but the fatalities are on par with other depictions of gore on consoles. Manhunt 2 received an AO rating before producers cut down a few of the gruesome fatalities. MK is only slightly less graphic.

Everyone knows that you find your buyers with cryptic messages using odd media

this argument is just stupid.

my thoughts exactly
Wouldnt you still ned software capable of using all of the resources?
My guess is to create a paper trail.

Entire city block moons the postman. Video footage @ 11
imagine per cost billing for ringers...
You may jest but....

Thats a fairly broad stick. Everyone links to copyrighted materials everyday.
By the looks of Slashdot's (c) blurb i could be linking to materials owned by a dozen people by posting a single link. I link to a few stories throughout the day. Looks like i better stop before I see an ICE badge. "All trademarks and copyrights on this page are owned by their respective owners. Comments are owned by Poster. The rest © 1997–2011 "

is it just me or does that description sound an awful lot like "pick a graphics card to put in our box" ?
not open or public; kept private or not revealed;
