That was the point:-) Admiral Ackbar ascii art gets posted on digg so much that I thought it might be amusing if I acted like I was on digg... I guess it wasn't.
Well I think it looks great! I am a sucker for good design though, be it in an innovative beige box makeover, a beautiful website, sunset behind a mountainous forest or stunningly attractive woman;-)
This sounds horrible. I find the idea of overriding another animal's free will very disturbing. The words "won't someone please think of the pidgeons!" come to mind, but we humans are animals after all. I would definitely not want this kind of mind control implemented with humans, and I don't want it implemented on any self-aware being.
Not true. I myself am an example - the websites I make now are 1000 times prettier and more usable than the crap I used to make on geocities back in the day! I don't see why you can't learn "design" like you can "programming", and i don't see why "design" wouldn't be quantifiable and describable just like "programming".
If our aim is to create a peaceful society, broadcasting images of violence free-to-air is not the way to do it. I say keep the violence levels down, and lighten up on the sex restrictions. People have sex all the time, it's a wonderful natural part of the human experience. Violence is very unpleasant, unnecessary part of the human experience, and I believe a cap on violence levels on TV would be beneficial to our society.
That being said, I don't even live in the US:-)
I completely agree with you. I think the internet is a wonderful thing for many reasons, with one of them being it's the freest medium humanity has invented so far. Governments and the rich can control the radio, TV and newspapers, but they can't control the entire internet (unless you're North Korea and don't allow anyone access to the internet). Just about anyone can get on the internet for free or cheap (public libraries, internet cafes, your parents paying for broadband;-)), say whatever they want for free and reach pretty much the entire world. The internet is, in my opinion, something to be very optimistic about.
As for Howard Dean, I looked this up a while ago and honestly couldn't see what the fuss was about - Howard Dean's "scream" on You Tube
Yep it was a joke, but that's still pretty interesting:-) Not resisting being a literalist seems to be pretty common here on slashdot. "I for one welcome our..." "well actually... [link to wikipedia]"
It seems to me that your heart is set on the Perl job. Are you waiting for someone to give you permission to choose the lower paying job that you think you'd enjoy more? Life's too short, go for the Perl job, you know you want to:-D
I remember reading somewhere long ago that neanderthals had bigger brains than homo sapiens. Obviously bigger brains doesn't equal "racial superiority" if neanderthals are long extinct and homo sapiens are still around;-)
People who want to fix global warming aren't really focusing on specifically "cooling the planet", their main focus is reversing the effect we've had on the planet. There's a subtle but important difference there. We don't want to stuff around more, we want to reverse the stuffing around we've done in the past, and help restore the favourable conditions that had evolved over the earth's bajillion years of evolving.
We are apart of nature, anything we do is natural. If we kill ourselves by destroying the environment then it's no different than if a pack of wolves starve to death because they hunted their food to extinction.
Pulling out of the ground millions of tons of carbon dioxide that have been there for millions of years is a very UNnatural thing to do, and the difference between humans and wolves is wolves don't affect the entire planet when they act unsustainably.
Thank you! Yes, the solution is SUSTAINABLE LIVING. Not "keep producing tons of C02 but pump it into the ocean", not "build nuclear powerplants that will produce toxic leftovers that will take millenia to decay", not "build a sunshade and put it in orbit over the earth" and definitely NOT "there's no problem, and even if there is I'm not going to do anything about it". SUSTAINABLE LIVING. That's means using less energy (eg building houses in such a way that they're comfortable all year around without heating or cooling, we have the know-how to do this right now), and using renewable energy sources. Renewable energy is our future, it has to be by definition! Coal supplies will be exhausted one day, as will oil, as will uranium. Solar and wind power are forever, it is inevitable that we will harvest these abundant sources of energy.
Settle down guy, I get the impression that this website is just an art experiment, not some guy thinking he's found the new correct way to use a mouse. I agree with everything else you said though.
I see where you're coming from, but that still doesn't mean there isn't plenty to complain about:P To me this seems like an attempt at a distraction from the current "sending lewd messages to congressional pages" scandal, not to mention the "holy f#ck, we f#cked up the invasion of Iraq pretty good" scandal. Plus there's the rather legitimate complaints about spending lots of money on getting into space when millions of Americans don't have healthcare, millions of Americans live below the poverty line, billions of American dollars are getting flushed down the titanic gaping void that is the national budget deficit...
That's what I was thinking xD

Dugg for Admiral Ackbar

There's no harm in being friendly and helpful ;-)
I should hope so, I'm from Australia! Oh wait...

Judging by your last sentence and your sig I'd say you're a big fat troll not worthy of a reply.

Hey if Apples can have viruses embedding in them, surely humans can too? *boom crash drumroll*
Couldn't companies just continue using GPL 2 or use a different license completely?
