I'm not certain I agree with you. While I don't disagree that MS tends to have loads of bloatware, I am confused about why so many people rag on Vista. The reason that MS added so much to Vista was because people were downloading and using 3rd party applications to do this on Microsoft's previous OS versions. I know several people who installed apps to allow a usable calendar as the desktop. And Windows Blinds was somewhat of a popular download for a very long time. The problem with Microsoft is that they are so large and own such a large portion of the market that they are bound to piss off people no matter what action they take.
Unfortunately I don't use iCal. And I know that syncronizing allows the birthdays to show up, but I don't sync every night. I sometimes go several weeks without syncing. I'm just surprised that the birthdays don't show up on the iPhone when I enter the birthday information on the iPhone.
One of the reasons I mentioned the profiles was because the iPhone is supposed to be above all else, a phone. I used profiles heavily before switching to the iPhone. While at work, phone should be all silent. When in a quiet setting (dr. office or something similar), I prefer the vibrate only setting. When I'm at home, I turn the ringer on loud so i can leave my phone in the kitchen but still hear it in the rest of the house. Shopping, I will use the vibe and ring setting so that I can feel it if I don't hear it ringing in my pocket when there is too much external noise.
You might very well be right. I hadn't known nor had the four other iPhone owners I have spoken to that you click on the address to get the map. I'm guessing that the reason it didn't work the first time I tried was due to lag when you bring the iPhone out of sleep mode in Contacts. Since that issue has been resolved, how about the birthday appointment when I enter the information directly onto the iPhone? What about Copy/Paste? How about phone profiles (my Motorola KRZR had many profiles, including all silent, vibrate only, vibrate and ring, vibrate then ring, ring soft, and ring loud profiles)? Why do games play sound even when I turn the ringer to silent? What about MMS capability? Yes, I know that iPhones can send email (unless you are a Hotmail user like me!) but that doesn't help in all circumstances. I don't mind looking the fool if you can find additional solutions (thanks again for the map solution), but so far all my Mac friends don't have a clue.
I have owned my iPhone for a couple weeks now, and I am SERIOUSLY irritated by it. I don't love it by any stretch of the imagination. I totally agree with your statement, asking why people love it when it doesn't work. Poorly integrated services. Example, I add a birthday to a contact in my address book. It doesn't automatically generate an appointment in my calendar? WTF? Stupid. Another example: I type an address for a contact. I can't simply click a hyperlink to see that address in Google Maps? Dumb.
I could continue....
Quite the contrary. Users are encouraged to test the software first by using the evaluation period. When you bought your last house, were you allowed to move in for a couple months without paying rent or mortgage before you decided to buy the house? If so, I want to use your broker. And when you shop for a shirt, do you wear it to the club before paying for it? You get to try it on, in the store, without removing the security tags. When buying the software, its the same deal. You try it, using their parameters (evaluation period) before purchasing it. To my knowledge, using the evaluation period is NOT the same thing as piracy.
Staying with the car analogy: when you test drive the car, do you get unlimited time to do so? When you pirate a game, there isn't a dealer sitting next to you stating "okay, we need to get back to the shop and look at drawing up some paperwork". A test drive with software (especially games) is often available via a demo. But pirating the game/software isn't just testing the demo, its taking the whole thing for more than just a jog around the block, on the freeway, and a couple of donuts in the parking lot.
I have never understood the pirate's though process: I pirate it, play a few days until I am sick of it and then delete it.
Do you do this with other products as well? Do you go to the car lot and take a car, drive it around until you get where you need to be or get bored driving it and then ditch it for a different one? Oh, except for those 'decent' cars, which you buy...
I have known several people who posted a 'free' sign on used goods and the stuff sat in the front yard for a week. They took down the 'free' sign and posted a price ($25 for the same item that had been free) and it was gone the next morning.
Not trying to be a callous asshole, but I'm curious. If the bank you were getting the mortgage from didn't get you the numbers in advance, why didn't you ask them for information?
I know that for both houses I have purchased, the lender provided me with the exact monthly payment I would have for principle and interest. I knew after speaking to the insurance company what that payment would be, and I could estimate the property taxes if not determining them by simply calling the county assessor. Adding those three numbers together gave me the total payment for the house.
If you weren't given satisfactory information to make the deal, perhaps you should have inquired rather than going off the assumption you wouldn't have been approved if you couldn't pay it.
Its interesting that many of the board games can also be found as video games on various platforms. I know that Monopoly was available as a PlayStation game, a PC game, and several other formats. Monopoly has over 100 versions of the actual board game (http://www.boardgames.com/monopolygames1.html) not including the collegiate or city versions. Many sell for prices between $9.99 and $29.99. So please explain how is it considered that board games are dead?
I agree with Relic_of_the_Future's comments. I have spent a gob of money on board games, much more on board games than I have on video games (computer and/or console).
As for the Settlers of Catan, it is an excellent game.
I also had issue with comic's in the 90's. Seems like I would finally get into a good storyline with decent penciling and color, and then 3/4 of the way through the story one/all of the team would leave and the project would be turned over to complete imbeciles. In my opinion, that's what ruined comic's in the 90's.

I was actually curious about the same thing. Many state that Ledger's Joker is a world of difference better than Nicholson's. But how does he compare with the comic book's Joker?
Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed Batman (with Keaton, Nicholson). But there were details in it that could either have been expanded upon or improved to be more in line with the comic books.
To be honest, I think there are so many variants of the comic book that any concept of the Joker could have been accurate. Initially, Joker was simply a mass murderer. After a decade or so, his character was changed and became more of an annoying but harmless character.
The Killing Joke portrays the Joker as a normal joe who is trying to get ahead and ends up in a vat of chemicals and becomes the insane criminal everyone knows.
There are other variations of the Joker, some showing him as completely off his rocker, others showing him as super sane but highly dangerous.
Which is the most accurate? And which version does Ledger portray?
I constantly hear people who prefer Apple spout how Apple has such a 'clear and simple user interface' compared to Windows. And yet, the Genius bar is constantly filled with people asking questions that I find clear and simple on Windows.
Why don't people seem to grasp that clear and simple to one person is not necessarily clear and simple to another?
Furthermore, in my 15 years of using Windows, I have not had a single virus (other than those I downloaded on purpose in order to observe the effects). I can only guess that some people are running unpatched versions of Windows without updated virus software.
I would assume that I would be able to notice the drastically shorter year (4.3, 9.6, or 20.4 days compared to the Earth's just over 365 days) if the planet had similar seasons. Its pretty noticeable difference between summer and winter if you are a fair distance from the equator. But I am not a Scientologist.
Really? Are you sure about that? I thought that Apple and AT&T signed a contract stating that Apple would use AT&T for ALL iPhones.
If Apple had not signed a contract with AT&T, I would be more likely to side with you. But with that contract, I think Apple should sell all iPhones with an AT&T contract.
I think this old proverb is appropriate here:
It's better to be silent and thought a fool, than to speak up and remove all doubt.
If you read any of the thread (yes, I realize this is/. and therefore no one reads anything...), you would have noticed that several people explained that Mr. Bill Gates did not declare that 640 KB nonsense. Here is the link that samkass has in his post:

I wish I had mod points for this. I agree with the statements negRo_slim made in this post.
If so many people are 'becoming violently sick of' Microsoft's OS, how is it possible that they control such a dominate position in that market? This perplexes me anytime people decide to rant about the awfulness of Microsoft.
As for Apple beating out Microsoft, I have to laugh out loud. Apple has been in this market for ages. And yet they consistently manage to have less than 10% of the market. That constitutes a formidable giant? I don't think you really understand what it is you are arguing.
It's not a question of whether you feel sorry for him. Rather, the question was why hold out for $31 when there is an offer for $30.
Whether or not you feel compassion for the guy is completely irrelevant.
I cannot remember EVER being charged 50 cents for any type of message (text, picture, video) being sent. Perhaps your carrier stuck you with a bad contract?

Is step four the following: 4. Profit?!

I didn't realize that you could both 'Think Different' and 'Think APPLE'. Isn't that pretty much polar opposites? Once you an Apple fanboi, always ....

My suggestion for your colorblind and tonedeaf friends would be to use a normal lock and key. Sometimes simple is best.

I came in to ask that same question. I haven't seen any Macs being sold less than $1200. Even used, they take a premium for them!
