  1. Re:Voting on Election Day Discussion · · Score: 1

Even voting for a major canidate in a "safe" state is still worth something because the popular vote is still used to gage public opinion about a canidate. Of course the way bush has used his mandateless presidency to push his far right wing agenda doesnt bare that out, but even so if the president is again elected by the electoral college and not by the popular vote then it might wake people up to the fact that our election system is seriously fucked.

We need election reform right here in the "worlds greatest democracy", but that wont happen without repeated demononstations of the flaws of our current system. So anyway, vote for your favorite canidate even if you live in a "safe" state, dont stay home because the polls told you who is going to win.

You can get satellite radio with 100+ channels this includes 60-70 commercial free music channels for less than $10 per month(after paying $100+ for the hardware). I think this is clearly the way to go for non-stable audio. If you want to fill up your ipod you could just plug the audio inputs into your computer and record a few hours of a station with a good mix. Circuit City thought they could convince people to buy into pay-per-play for movies, this will fail for the same reasons.

Most supermarkets, wholesalers and chain store intentionally price products in a way that makes it difficult for people to calculate a running total in their head. When calculating procuct cost they add on their usual margin and then fudge the cents value to be strange numbers that confuse people. For example: .99, .23, .67, .53.

They have studied this and found that when they use this confusing pricing system people buy more, they buy what they want, not what they can afford or what fits in their budget. The stores dont want people be able to calculate their total purchase.

He was a great man - intelligent, well read and an awesome speaker who we honor with a day every year in remembrance of his struggle for equal rights and the barriers to equality that must still be overcome. Its too bad that these works cannot be freely listened to and studied in order to educate and inform the people. I was thinking about collecting mp3s of his speeches and making them available to others at work on MLK day, but i guess its illegal to spread his good news.

MLK Jr. strived for racial, social and economic equality for minorities, the poor, and the uneducated. Im sure he wanted to protect his works from being co-opted for profit, and I doubt that he would rejoice that his family is now one of the rich oppressors who demand money for his works and restrict information that could help people take the power back through non-violent protest and community action.

Here at the king center through the goodness of their hearts they have made available an excerpt from one speech.

This page at Stanford University does have some more streaming excerpts though they are clearly trying to sell the full works.
