The problem I have is just how big of a download the kernel has become. 35+ MB now which is a bit of a bitch on a 26.4 connection. I don't mind recompiling but I do mind DLing it. At that this is the reason I've given up on Linux, security update after security update to DL. I got my Ubuntu CD, installed it and within 2 days there was 100+ MBs of security updates. If I wanted to tie up my slow connection DLing security updates I'd run Windows. Also since kernel 2.4 Linux seems to be getting slower and slower on my old hardware, even after replacing Gnome with fluxbox it still seems damn near as slow as Windows. Still my OS vendor keeps saying to change to Linux so I guess its time to update this fine old box
WebExplorer was a great browser 10+ yrs ago. Intergrated into the Workplace shell pretty well, fast at the time standards compliant. We're talking pre Netscape 2.x. As another poster mentioned IBM stopped development and standards changed. And yes this is written in Mozilla on OS/2 which mostly exists thanks to IBM and I'm still a long time OS/2 user.
If you believe that record companies make unfair profits, the way to combat that is to boycott their products, not to steal them. You can always look for indie bands.
This doesn't work. The record companies just blame the lost sales to piracy and get laws passed guaranteeing them money. Here in Canada now I'm paying the record companies everytime I backup my computer. And if I was a musician I would be paying them everytime I recorded a CD
Don't know about WFWG3.11 but plain Win 3.11 ran fine under OS/2. What they did do to break winos2 was move a bunch of win32s DLLs upto high memory which OS/2 couldn't support having just a 512 MB process space. Also don't forget making Win95 ver 4.095 since IBM had a cross licensing agreement upto ver 4.0
Being Canadian the only definition of republic I was taught in school was that basically a republic was the opposite of monarchy. Namely a republic had a president instead of a King. Yet Americans always seem to think that republic = repersentive democracy. Is this just another change that Webster made to the English language or what? Looking quickly at a map seems to agree with me, lots of republics that are not democratic, eg Iraq under Saddam was a republic
As I've stated before, whatever OS is the dominant one, is the one that virus writers will explore and find the exploits for. Already Symantec has ported to the Mac platform because of the growth it's realized lately. Virus writers are now beginning to attack it, (although not as much as Windows.)
I guess that was why the Amiga used to have the most viruses, dominance.
Can anyone explain to me why it's my right to violate copyright law while on the internet?
Well around here it has something to do with the money the *aa collect every time I want to backup my HD to a CDR or buy some memory for my digital camera.
Some raptors are also scavengers, mostly bald eagles around here. There's a couple of bald eagles hang out at the local dump and lots of them munching away on dead salmon down the road. One example of lots of eagles around here eating lots of dead salmon brackendaleeagles
Not sure if independents etc get a cut here in Canada but this brings up another point. The levy is only on blank media so all a company eg Apple has to do is put some independent music on their ipod and bang, no more levy. I'm sure there are lots of indies who would happily donate music just for the exposure. Doesn't help much for cdr though. Unluckily this will just bring the next step in the *AAs war, suing every indie or/and alternative band for copyright infringement. You know those 3 notes were used before and its copyrighted.
However, the other article said that it is backward compatible with ipv4, are they using some kind of NAT then, or is it just backward compatible in the sense that the Chinese network can read of ipv4 networks.
IIRC the way it should work is slashdot.org (66.35.250.150) becomes 0:0:0:0.66.35.250.150 which tells the ipv6 router to use ipv4. After upgrading to ipv6 slashdots ip is now 0:0:0:FFFF.66.35.250.150 which means that slashdot can use ipv6. Eventually slashdot would get its own ipv6 block and stop using ipv4. Unluckily it seems ipv6 is never going to be totally implemented
Remember that in a lot of the world DLing music is not illegal. Every time I buy a CDR to back up my computer the CRAA gets their cut so if I had the bandwidth I'm free to DL music.
The only rational thing for a user to do, is to stop executing untrusted software. And it works. It is very, very easy to use a computer without any sort of AV protection at all, and remain uninfected by viruses, spyware, etc.
The question is how do you trust any software? Right now I'm running an OS that came in the mail (Ubunutu Linux), how do I trust it? I'm also compiling a tarball that I DLed from Mozilla.org called Firefox. Once again how do I trust it? Looking at the endless C++ files doesn't tell me anything as I'm not knowledgeable enough and even if I was there has got to be at least a 100 MB of code to wade through. What it comes down to is that I have to have faith in the trustfulness of certain organizations or not run anything.
Of course Germany (and Itay) declared war on the US. This was in support of their Allies the Japanese. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/d ecember/11/newsid_3532000/3532401.stm as an example. And no I'm not a product of the US school system which is why I know this.
Perhaps if the USA was capable of keeping their word (see softwood lumber dispute for one example of the USA signing an agreement and then breaking it) and if the USA didn't vote in a President who had never left the country, did not know who your friends were, and started insulting them as his first act as President-elect we wouldn't feel so spat upon. Besides the war on Iraq was obviously just to take attention away from the failing WAR ON TERROR. This is speaking as a Canadian.
You had a choice when Germany declared war on the USA. You could of surrendered or you could of fought. The USA decided to fight so why should anyone owe you for fighting a country that declared war on you?
Oh bullshit, everyone knows that Microsoft was founded when Bill Gates found some basic code in a dumpster. Then Bill did invent something, MINE, as he was bitching about people sharing his software which he stole fair and square.
Actually Hemp and Marijuana are the same things, just different strains and historically there has been strains of hemp that were high in THC. Now the strains of hemp that are pushed for industrial use are low in THC mostly to get around the war on drugs. BTW the word marijuana was invented because obviously you couldn't illegalize hemp (at least in the early 1900's) as people wouldn't have stood for it. Lots of farmers grew hemp and most people used it in one form or another, eg rope, paint, jeans just to name a few.
Regarding hemp, you've stumbled on one of the main reasons for the War on Drugs (the other was to employ a lot of G-Men after alcohol was relegalized). Seems about 1933 a machine was perfected for seperating the fibers from hemp with the goal of cheap good paper. At about the same time a newspaper baron (Hearst?) started pushing cheap pulp paper. In the spirit of free enterprise hemp was renamed marijuana as people wouldn't of stood for hemp being illegalized and marijuana was illegalized. Things haven't changed much since then with established industries regularly getting new tech illegalized.
On a different topic, why can't I not access the main slashdot page for about 12 hours after making a post (or even previewing)
Canadians have traditionally owned rifles, shotguns and other hunting tools. Lately handguns have been showing up in increasing numbers due to the War On Drugs (Guns are traded for dope) and becoming more of a problem.
Can't have those political prisoners (eg self-medication when dying of cancer) voting to change the law.

True, its a ripoff of OS2 ver 1.3 except they couldn't even have folders in program manager

Actually here with a old box (300Mhz K2) and a slow connection (26.4) it is way to slow.
Dave

Hmm, the HTML version is broken here on OS/2 4.5 with Mozilla 1.8a5. The Flash version runs fine

No the reason marijuana was illegalized was to protect the pulp wood paper industry
