Their move is nothing more than a ploy to blind us.

You know what? thats exactly what apple zealots said when microsoft started making windows. "Apple has better quality, if people just buy macs, theyll see the light, and soon everyone will run them" Granted, apple has improve significantly the last couple of years, but not as a result of quality of product, but as a sole result of marketing. Candy coated computers are good PR, they make you want to buy them ( if youre average Joe six-pack) If linux users get into the same mindset of "our quality will win them over" then linux will fail. Microsoft and others will spread so much FUD youll think that world war three will result from runing linux on your box. lets embrace apple, since theyre helping us as a community market the goodness of linux, and counteract some of the fud thats out there

Whether or not this person is serious about this bill, as some posters haqve suggested, is irrelevant. The attempt to clamp down on pornography, mp3's etc, is part of a larger trend of oppression of the young that is sweeping america. As america gets older, its polititians become more conservative, more restrictive, and more out of touch with the youth of america. This bill is evidence of that, the age of adulthood has been increasing along with the average age of the population. Once you were considered an adult at 18, capable of making decisions like whether or not you should drink for yourself, now the age in almost every state is 21. Has the maturity of americas youth changed? no, nothing has changed, merely the perception of polititans that we are children and therefore have no rights, and can eaisily be oppressed. The youth still have the vote fortunately, one of the problems is that we dont use it. We need to send polititans a mesage, that we can take care of ourselves, that we arent children anymore, and we wont take this kind of crap like censoring and filtering an internet that we are building ourselves as much as anyone else.

Do humans have a responsible enough nature to handle the implications of cloning effectively. In effect, we will be Creating life from something that would not have been alive, or something (or someone) that had been dead. Humanity would be venturing into the realm formerly the domain of gods, and it wouldnt be the first time we have done so either. Almost all technical advancements have some sort of morality problems with them, from the internet to contraception, yet morality does not advance. It seems to me that while Technilogy advances at an exponential rate, morality advances at a linear rate, or worse, doesnt advance at all. Our Civic and religeous leaders need to get caught up with the technological advances of the day, and realize the implications thereof, otherwise we get uncontrolled growth of things that are bad (MS) and have to wait longer for things that are good, that is things that are fair and equitable to the masses, things that prevent the destruction of things that ordinary citizens value, and the proliferation of peace and tranquility (or Quake II networks, either way). I dont think that technological advancements like cloning should stop, or that technological advancement in general should be slowed, but what should happen is that morality should keep pace with technology, so that we dont get silly people in congress saying censor the internet or down with violent video games. ok, thats my rant for today

Eastern Front = MS vs DOJ

This thing is EXTREMELY sensitive to changes in the path lengths. A change in the path length of half a wavelength of the light used is enough to cause an interference pattern at the dtector. The longer the paths used, the more sensitive it is to disturbances. This thing can detect the gravitational pull of a human walking by the end of it. Needless to say they get lots of interference, like the moon, cars, trucks, squirrels etc. Which is why they need a whole bunch of them spread out. Presumably a gravity wave will hit all the detectors at the same time, since gravity moves as fast as it wants to and doesnt have to be held back by the speed of light rule.
