I doubt terrorists have the same immeadiate and direct communication that exists in on-line games. The less communication, the less chance for discovery.
In any case, I know MMORPG players. The only thing they accomplish in the real world is living in the basement and drinking Dew. Hell set up suspected terrorists with an EQ subscription and the only they they'll blow up in orcs.
Mel will be driving a beat up station wagon, with the right turn signel flashing, 20 miles an hour under the speed limit while looking for an all-you-can-eat buffet.
"whereas you are strongly advised to reboot Windows boxes on a regular basis"
Don't tell me you're running windows 95 on your servers?
I just hate out of date info. That memory leak is no longer true for win2k. It's important to know WHERE MS's true weaknesses are. I mean, what if you told your boss that and he just read about the Win2k datacenter server with guarenteed 5 9's uptime? You'd look a bit foolish. Now if you said "Uptime? Yeah windows can give you good uptime, but you have to buy this special version which is more expensive and run it on special hardware, and you can't just apply the latest security patches until they're certified so you'd be open to attack."

Well... AFAIK, CHiPS spends most of their time chasing stolen cars. I had no idea they were stolen by hackers. But I'm glad they're still around. Erik Estrada is so cool!
They can't. Open the OS code - exposing all the hidden APIs - would remove the advantage that their office suite and other software has.
OTOH, it might work anyway, since everyone wants office nowdays. I can't remember the last user to request Word Perfect. If they open up - expose more functionality and make it even easier to program for they might win mind share.
These are just pilot projects for the one-world government to iron out the kinks before giving all of us these IDs. You KNOW it's the truth! The only way to protect youself from the mind-reading space-stations is to buy one of my Open-Source shiney foil hats.
Don't bother calling, just think of your credit card number REAL hard and we'll direct bill it right away...
A few years back, a non-tech co-worker asked if it was fair for a local computer shop to charge her $65 to fix problem. $65 is a bit much for a 30 minute fix I my mind, so I asked her what the problem was. She said that the shop owner told her it was just aother "Windows I.D. Ten T" error. Needless to say after I agreed it was a fair price and that she wasn't being ripped off, I about fell out of my chair laughing.
99% of the CD's that do this can be handled by opening CDplayer.exe and hitting play. It is ADware crap, but it isn't copy protection as almost any ripper software will grab it.
I for one am looking forward to the "Nu-Spam". Since I have a B.S. already, I'll get ads from only the finest in unaccredited masters degree programs. Also, just think of the targeted pr0n. No more brunettes thanks, only the red-headed barely-legal college girls will send me invitations to meet them and their roommates on-line...

That is EXACTLY why it will do well. Look at America now. We're down, what with the recent blowings-up and the powdered letters, and bombing of bomb craters in Afghanistan. This is exactly what the people want to see right now - "Hard work and dedication will win the day for the good guys." People will eat it up.
And all you're really sacrificing is 3 hours and $10.
Think savings of $300 or more PER PC with hundreds or thousands PC's. Not chump change is it? Because the thing is that Office, NOT WINDOWS, is the environment of the typical office drone. As long as the apps stay the same who cares what the OS is.
Thanks a lot though. I'll be fantisizing about never seeing WinNT/9x/ME at work all weekend long now.../sigh

She's hot, sweet and intelligent with a great sense of humour. You must agree to pay this geek 5 cents a minute while talking to him.
No, this is slashdot. WE pay THEM to talk to us.
WRONG!
The cable company has no interest in the amount of TV you watch. They only care about the advertisments.

Why doesn't anyone ever listen to you guys?
Seriously, I've seen TONS of studies, articles, and books on this. But I don't see many sites - even large ones - following through.
With enough hot air, I guess you can do anything.

My question is two-fold: What are you going to do to fix this? Also, would donating the use of my bed help?
That about clears up everything, doesn't it.
What's norwegian for "password"?
blahblah Lameness filter is itself lame... ironic...
Like I do. In my desk there is a sealed envelop marked PASSWORDS. Since I'm in a secure office (24hr security, passcard doors) no problem.
No globalism-running-rampant? No sales pitch? No Open-source? Evil multi-nationals? Where's the post 9/11 hellmouth Corporatism angle?
I'm sorry, but reviews just aren't the same without the JonKatz.
Don't feel guilty about giving MPAA money, just make sure to steal an extra 2 or 3 albums from the RIAA to make up for it.
3 CD's x $18 = $54 - $10 movie ticket = $45 they didn't get from you. That way you can still see the flick AND stick it to the man. Fight the power!

"Unless they have said something like we do not take any responsibility of typos in prices"
Right! Because no evil, money hungry, souless corporation would ever mis-use the public's ignorance of the legal system like that.
So... uh, you wanna buy a bridge?

I think it's quite funny to see a bit of greed from a company dedicated to "sharing".
My favorite in-joke story...

I thought the internet was a wasteland of pr0n. Damnit, Katz, make up my mind.
