    I think "good enough" is not quite the right word. It is more likely fossil fuels will become bad enough before other options become good enough. It is a bit similar how there are no options that are "good enough" compared to fast food for Americans. Even if you are choking yourself on your way down.

    Adobe could also stop letting flash authors disable the quality control on the right click menu. I noticed most commercial flash sites would rather you not be able to see their content at all than see it without antialiasing. My main computer is a netbook. It means I just plain can't use the site and must bring my business elsewhere.

    From the number of people who think that a speed limit sign means a minimuim speed and from how when people do get into an accident they comment how the size of their large car saved them instead of how their speeding and the size of their car killed te other driver...

    this investigation outcome sounds more reasonable than you would think.

    From using FF4, it seems that a lot of addon authors will just select the current major version of Firefox

    Do you seriously think extension authors all want to to that? When you upload an extension to addons.mozilla.org, it unzips th efile, and checks the manifest to make sure that you don't put in a version beyond what is available.

    There is a lot of redonculous crap you have to go through as a Firefox extension developer nowadays.

    When you recieve something, you feel an obligation to try to uphold it. Obama said himself that he didn't feel like he deserved it, but that he would do his best to live up to it. In many ways, the prize in this instance was meant to serve as a preemptive, "please don't become George W. Bush." That isn't exactly the same as "getting the prize just because he isn't George W. Bush."

    Maybe slashdotters are different from normal people, but what would you do if you recieved the Nobel Peace prize? Would it affect how you carry out your daily activities. Would it make you more concious of your choices?

    I'm a sucker for minimalist design. I would just prefer a better roll-over for the links in the top menu (like underlining the text for a background change) and the static menu makes my netbook chug when scrolling. But maybe Firefox 4 will help with this. Maybe not?

    The price of creating movies is the reason for the number of generic films and sequals. You won't get something original if you are taking a chance with that much money. Even if you get the "good" actors, cameramen and crew, you will are screwed on the other end of it.

    I blame a word that people like to throw around called "Immersion." It is overrated and in many cases is used to try to gloss over the more intellectual portions of the film. This is classically called valuing SFX over story.

    Maybe Microsoft IE team doesn't have the money or resources to develop their browser? After all, they don't get the google income of Firefox and they have to pay those horrible h264 fees. They must be borderlining on broke or something. The old guys were disbanded years ago to work on bigger projects and only college hang overs who beg for money from their parents get to touch the code nowadays. [end sarcasm]

    I honestly would expect more from an ex-market leader in web browser development. Pure laziness on Microsoft's part.

    I am slowly falling out of love with modern games. I value quietness over loud fans. I value battery power over slightly better graphics. I value gameplay over quick time events. I value playing a game over waiting for load time. I don't mind realizing that I am playing a game when I am playing a game.

    I know a bunch of people grew up with these things I mentioned above and think it is normal and "the way it should be" (tm), but it just isn't my cup of tea. As with the PSP, it looks like the PSP2 will bring more of the same. There is a growing gaming culture pigionholing the definition of what a good game has to be.

    Pragmatism my ass. They are shipping WebM because they own it. It's a new standards war that Google wants to win. Not because it's 'free', but because it has Google's name on it. To claim this yet continue to ship proprietary flash support in the same browser just looks bad, and makes the entire premise hypocritical.

    If web browsers had chosen to uniformly support Theora, I strongly think WebM would have been less likely to appear. These are just old ghosts coming back to haunt people. Your karma people. :3

    This is what people got for not supporting Theora. This is may or may not be your cup of tea, but the open web still pushes, regardless of corporate interests. Independant people will still be able to make a free web browser legally. This will either a: force the h264 codec to open up more, or b: force a more open HTML5 spec.

    And if Google is actually successful in making WebM, not H.264, the standard codec for web video, they're literally going to render hundreds of billions of dollars worth of tablets, smartphones, set-top boxes, etc. with H.264 hardware support obsolete.

    Silly hyperbole. People change their devices every 2-5 years anyway. With the growing strength of Android OS and the similarities in the Webm and H264 codecs, I don't see hardware manufacturers having major issues with the transition either.

    I do not see that much of an issue here. It's not like H264 is going to drop off the face of the planet any time soon either.

    Just being pulled over and showing your hospital badge / white coat is not going to help you 99+% of the time. *Especially* if you were driving in a dangerous fashion. One of my friends has a funny story on how he tried it after being pulled over, and his ID says:

    ".... ..., MD
    DERMATOLOGY"

    The police officer laughed and gave him the maximum fine.

    Then it is your anectdote against mine. The police officer said no my roomate (who is a nurse) that they liked the work they do and that he would let him off this time. I don't think in particular Dermatology impressed the police officer either.

    It is because of their profession. Doctors/nurses are allowed to speed and police officers will usually be more lenient on them. Whether this is warranted or not is a similar question as it puts other people in direct danger (in contention with the purpose of their line of work.)

    I do all sorts of more modern languages from C++,C,Java, Javascript, Python etc. But still looking at that old QBasic for Dummies book I have no idea what is going on. Basic I can understand. I just look at it as either the book or the language was poop.

    QBasic is the only programming language I failed. It was also my first. I couldn't figure out the damn QBasic for dummies Book. It made absolutely no sense to me what was going on. But it may have also been my age.
