It's always mystified me as to why a business with less then about 100 employees would use Exchange Server. Yet it seems the vast majority do, even though they could just use IMAP with Outlook.
Have you ever tried using Outlook's IMAP functionality? It's a complete joke...
Minority? Only on the desktop PC. You'd be surprised at how many games on other platforms use OpenGL.
Most mobile phones and other ARM-based devices run OpenGL rather than DirectX, so anything 3D for low-power devices is probably OpenGL.
The PS3 uses a cousin to OpenGL, if I remember right.
That right there has to be at least 50 million devices with OpenGL - granted, they have varying power and capabilities, but you can't really say OpenGL isn't common.:P It's everywhere!
In the context of Windows gaming, which is what this discussion is about, is is the minority by far.
Although it is the minority API used for gaming, it still does exist. As long as John Carmack is still pumping out gaming engines, there will be games based on OpenGL. Does anyone here have any first-hand experience on OpenGL performance in Windows7?
Under normal usage, I too have not experienced any nastiness with ReiserFS. However, I've found when I'm pounding the hell out of the filesystem, it doesn't seem to keep up so well. Admittedly, these incidents were not the result of normal usage scenarios (rsync'ing large media volumes and rapid reads via a program written in C to backup roughly 222 gigabytes of image files); operations that are not too uncommon in the enterprise environment.
Hah! I'd truly love to see them try that..I really sincerely would. The only way commercial Linux vendors make any money off of Linux is through their support channel. Have you ever tried to get support from Microsoft? Oh man, it'd be a bigger financial failure than Hotmail, Zune, and their Yahoo! acquisition combined.
For my own purposes, I can't use ReiserFS because I can't stop thinking about that guy when I install it. Just...ick.
For me, I can't use ReiserFS because I prefer to keep my data. I've had ReiserFS screw me over twice now. Once where the data was completely lost, and once where the data was damn-near lost but luckily recoverable with only a few files getting corrupted.
Another example of how current data carriers don't take their data networks seriously. They're *obviously* not as important as voice...
Man, do I second that. Occasionally I'll get text messages from nagios hours after it detected a problem. That's complete bullshit. If they're going to gouge everyone for SMS messaging, they better have some outstandingly low latency for it. Seems like to me this is something that could spur a class-action lawsuit..
Not really. Ubuntu has really removed the need for a terminal. I can easily get a system working (more easily than a fresh Windows installation) without touching the terminal. Sometimes I go to it because it gives me a power and speed a GUI *CANT* provide, but everything that needs to be done in Ubuntu can be done in GUI.
Anything that really can't (fixing a package error, for example) is explained very very clearly and tells the user exactly what to do to fix it.
There's nothing you NEED to do inside the Terminal anymore for a normal user. Just powerusers.
I couldn't agree more. I *COULD* configure my wifi interface to connect to my wireless network from the command via:
One single distro definitely would be a bad idea, but I wouldn't mind seeing one package management system that all of the distros agreed upon.

Interesting...kind of like a turbocharger for a CPU.
Man, that makes my RoadRunner Turbo (22 Mbit down/ 2 Mbit up) look like crap!
I'm looking for a golden retriever for my son, you can make one for me here at RePet, right? GET ON ZE CHOPPA!
Fixed that for ya.
One JIRA to rule them all.

Who ever would have thought that the words "Zerg Rush kekekekkekekeeke ^_^" would have a legitimate chance of showing up on a final?
There, fixed that for ya.

You McDougalls might know a lot about the Windows 7 beta program, but you have a lot to learn about women!
Yup. We use ext3 for just about everything on our servers and it's never failed me under extremely high IO.

Next up, Microsoft Linux!

Windows XP = lean Windows Vista = fat Windows 7 = Windows Vista after a year with Richard Simmons
There, fixed that for you
And it would be great if after five hits in a row it would growl "Impressive".
Heh, my favorite one of those is the "holy shit!" after a near-flag capture =D.
no, jackass. Look up frag and see what it means to us who defend your right to be a jackass.
I know what the term frag means. Try having a sense of humor sometime..you might find that you actually enjoy it.
...the DoD finally has a tool to automatically keep track of scores.
I believe the correct term is frags.

# iwconfig lwan0 key open

# iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed
But I'd much rather just let KNetworkManager do all the work.
Or, in other words:
I could get a good look of a t-bone steak by sticking my head up a cow's ass, but I'd rather take the butcher's word for it.
Except these peeps
Whoops...allow me to grammar-nazi myself: then = than.
This outta be more entertaining then all seasons of Heroes combined!
He forgot to mention that the Ubuntu box has a Type-R sticker. Mystery solved.
