  1. Our president uses many on Buzz Words, Catch Phrases, and Manager Speak? · · Score: 1

I forgot to add my displeasure of certain buzz words used by our US president. In a way he's considered a manager and definitely has his own set of words. How about weapons of mass destruction or axis of evil? There are tons more, too many to list. I find they get on my nerves just as much as the ones used by people at my job.

  2. Buzz Words on Buzz Words, Catch Phrases, and Manager Speak? · · Score: 1

From my last job "synergy" was the big buzz word. Also on my list of dislikes are "paradigm shift" and "proactive". Proactive is a big one at my job now since we obvioulsy want to advocate a proactive approach to everything while taking a very reactive role (as to not cause waves). Since I work in a non-tech atmosphere now, I don't seem to encounter the typical words as much. Now I get things that are more along the lines of "a life of service" and a "community of learning".

Easily accessible USB ports is my main gripe about this idea. I love the USB key that the college I work at provides students for use with their laptops. Since I wanted one too they gave me one. But what a pain when your box is under your desk, or otherwise out of reach! Not to mention confusing trying to explain to some non-techie person where to plug it in (especially if they're already using their slots). If the Dimension line plans to have ports on the front, then this could be promoted a lot more easily.

Even though CDs are cheap, I don't think that the technology is as affordable as it needs to be for most people to adopt it yet.

Consider some places in Iowa. For instance, Forest City is a town of about 4500 people and the home of Winnebago Industries. It's possible it might be a little too small for your tastes though.

If not here is a description. It is 2 hours to get to Des Moines and 2 hours to Minneapolis, about 15 minutes off I-35. It has a small college and the housing is cheap. I live about 30 minutes west and our house was only $20k (though we got a bargain because it was forecolosed by Fannie Mae from the previous owners). It's a 3 bedroom on a double lot. Really nice houses can be had for $75k-$100. Job prospects all depend on the kind of work you want to do and whether you're willing to drive a little. 30 miles here means a 30 minute commute, not like it is in the cities where you're crawling across town. The schools here are good and the area is low in crime. The area's wired pretty well too, if working from home could be an option for you.

  15. Re:Terry Pratchet on Top 10 New Sci-Fi/SF Authors? · · Score: 1

It isn't necessary to read Pratchett's books in the published order but I recommend that you at least read the 'sets' in order. The sets are sub-series of books featuring the same characters (the city watch, witches, Rincewind, etc).

For instance, the books focusing on the witches include:

    Wyrd Sisters
    Witches Abroad
    Lords And Ladies
    Maskerade
    and others.

There will be some things happening in Lords and Ladies that you'll want to know about from the previous two, but it wouldn't make any difference if you'd read The Color of Magic, or most of the other books that come first chronologically.

I'd recommend his books to anyone! This site http://www.co.uk.lspace.org/ is very informative. And here is a reading order guide I found through a link on that site. It pretty much confirms what I've suggested.

Assuming you live in the US, with the job market the way it is right now my first instinct would suggest to head to college and hope that the war is over by the time you're set to graduate. The economy isn't going to pick up until the situation is resolved. While in college try to land an internship or even part time job in your related field. That way when you graduate you'll not only have the degree, but at least something to put on your resume. You'll be in a better position than this guy posting on /. for advice.

In the report he indicated that on first try his laptop didn't connect, but that Lufthansa had three connection specialists on the plane and were able to get him running within 5 minutes. Apparently the plane was full on reporters and other testing it out, so the connection was a little slower than is usually expected.

The thing that hit me was that they would charge up to $30 extra to use this feature. That might not be a big deal to business passengers, but I'm not sure the average person will appreciate that extra fee on their ticket.

I have several memories from around age 2-3. I'm pretty sure I remember mom taking me to the bedroom to tell me about dad being gone, but know nothing of what she said. I would guess those stick with me because they were somewhat tramatic. Many of these memories were not told to me, but that I questioned my mom about later to see if I was accurate. There's just one memory that I have from a time with my dad that my mom cannot confirm whether happened or not. Of course for each memory like this I have, I have 3 dozen other associated memories that are most likely based on things I've been told or seen in pictures.

The Clonaid organization was turned over to Brigitte Bossellier(sp?) from Rael a year or so ago. I first ran across them about two or so years ago.
