Boy do I remember those days acoustic coupled cradle modem and a whopping 300bps. Not having any money to get online the next thing to do was build a dialer to get a record of modem pickups and then searching for packet switch networks. after finally finding a suitable gateway it was on to see what you could see.
I cant say I miss the old days, but they sure helped me to build my current foundation in understanding engineered systems and using them to their fullest
Not sure where you live, but the school district that my children are enrolled in has been using this technology since we moved here in 2003 Grades, email progress reports, absences and the like are all conveyed via email/portal pages to parents and children of the school district, my kids even have a shared space where they can upload their home work to then grant permissions the the teacher they want to have access to it.
I find this funny since the company I work for still uses dial-up modem's for some locations and dot matrix printers for route tickets. That being said we are 8 months away from no more modems - but the dot matrix will stay for quite awhile
I wish the media would stop giving these people coverage Funny how they condemn every one that doesnt fall in line with their philosophies If Jesus walked the earth today they'd probably condemn him for hanging out with hookers, drug addicts and the like (oh wait is that what he did)
the one with the large electromagnet slip the person running the crane a $20.00 and instant erasure beyond that - I'm not to concerned about the residual data that someone "maybe" able to recover from them - if someone really wants my data there are a lot of simpler ways of gathering it than reconstructing a hard drive that has been scrambled by a very large electromagnetic field
Really to make a worker more efficient at their job you wouldn't break down and purchase a second monitor. Glad I don't work there - My job all I needed to say is hey I need 4 gigs of memory and duel monitors and the next day they were on my desk No questions asked
Seriously take a look at what they are asking for, then really place it into perspective of your overall IT budget.
since most of the machines I'm guessing are running a Microsoft product, maybe they should be the ones carrying this out on infected machines.
Lets face it they are probably better situated to see this through.
the feds should go back to being the agents of the RIAA and MPAA and leave the computer work to the professionals
Maybe they should turn out a better product. Phish, The Dead, and countless others have opted to walk away from traditional "record" companies and seem to be doing well with their "models". Maybe if they took their collective heads out of their asses they would regain market share
I have a 2 year old that has been on a computer about 6 months now ( and an 18 year old daughter that was the same way)
The best thing I have found is old hardware. Spill proof keyboard and a wireless mouse and educational web sites most games dont hold their attention for that long
(fwiw nickjr is pretty amazingly put together for kids of your child's age)
Don't think that the 18 mo wont be able to use a mouse its amazing at how quick they pick up double click. click and drag, Etc
FWIW let them start early the results will amaze you My eldest, at the age of 12 was coding java and comfortable with command line UNIX
I get it, the IPhone is cool. But it's beyond me any person or tech subject themselves to these types of restrictions and snooping. There is something inherently wrong with this mind set. Imagine if Ford, Chevy, or Dodge could disable your car because you made modifications to it that they didn't deem worthy. What would the auto industry look like now, I'm guessing much worse off and public transportation would be further along than it is now
Problem with monopolies when some other entity dips into their cash flow they find a way to get it from somewhere else . That somewhere else is normally the customers they have a strangle hold on.
does Canada have anti trust laws? if so this seems like an ideal time to hold their feet to the fire

Apparently that powers that be don't understand what it involves is much more that moving and blocking 0's and 1's.

Guess its time to turn in the keyboard
For a lawn mower and shovel
better yet a surf board!
Is not always good for the Gander? this is the guy that wants a double standard . Complain about fair use then evoke it when it makes him money. Rupert how much is enough?
