Was she required to invent a time machine to meet that deadline?
""In August of 2007, the State of New York passed legislation requiring its CIO, Melodie Mayberry-Stewart, to gather information on the advantages and disadvantages of adopting either ODF or OOXML as a document standard, and to report her findings by 15 January 2007. "
I think the FSF are actually attempting to preserve P2P as a viable technology. There are valid uses for the technology behind music pirating. Assisting now would help prevent the shutdown of P2P networks and bit torrent.
They are also attacking the redefining of IP licenses.
You missed the 2005 Microtel systems with Xandros 3.0 Standard installed for $199.00. I have one of these and loved it, then I upgraded the heck out of it. I is now a Frankenstein running Ubuntu, but it ran just fine for almost 2 years before I decided to tweak it.
I bought one of the $200.00 Microtel / Xandros machines that they used to carry. I bought it, wiped Xandros off, installed XP, and played the Battlefield series pretty well on it.
It has evolved in the past 2.5 years, but it still looks the same, so my wife has no idea.
Was - Sempron 2200 with 512 MD RAM and 40 GB drive. IS NOW - Athlon FX 62 with 2 GB, twin 40 GB drives in Raid 0 and a 500 GB data drive with an nVidia 6800 GS card.
It lasted about a year and a half before I upgraded the original graphics card. The cheap little machines are great for learning and for Granny type use. Motivated users will know how to upgrade and learn from the experience.
Not to sound like too much of an old fart, but does this mean no more kids with loud stereos? Can I sue my neighbors little brat for having his stereo cranking when he pulls into the driveway? I don't WANT to listen to his crap, but he forced me. If the stereo plays and nobody listens, does that count as comitting a crime?
If sound waves are created, you as the listener have two options, listen or ignore. If the *AA gets a legal ruling that I "listened" just because I was around when the sounds were made, I would really like them to talk to my wife and explain the diference between hearing and listening.
For $15,000, the radioactive contaminated soil from the Mayak plutonium facility on the shore of the Techa River in the Russian town of Muslyomova could be dug up
Then what? I work for one of the largest environmental engineering firms in the world (plug http://www.earthtech.com/, and I work on these sites on an almost daily basis. (I am an environmental scientist, but a hobbyist geek). Sure, $15,000 might cover the workers and machines to pull the dirt out of the ground, but where can you safely dispose of the soil? How can you transport it safely through populated areas. What else is involved? Worker protection, community protection, disposal site selection, soil erosion and runoff control, stream encroachmetn and wetlands permits, demolition to get to the soil, additional sampling to fully delineate the extent of contamination, finding the responsible party to actually pay for it etc... It is NOT as simple as just digging up dirt. You are probably off by one or two zeros.
There are simple ways of eliminating the threat. Put a secured fence around it, cap it with concrete, etc. They are temporary fixes, but they would significantly reduce exposure. But again, what is the price of a concrete cap 2 feet thick across the site? It is not cheap.
I don't know what they are talking about with Firefox users not buying stuff online. I just bought 4 copies of AutoCAD for Linux through an ad on a site I visited. It was only about $20.00 US. That is great, because nobody else seems to carry it, and the Windows versions are like a really expensive. I ordered the download version by credit card about 3 weeks ago, I haven't recieved the confirmation email with the download link yet, but the site looked respectable.
PS - Anybody know what the difference is between http and https is?
They fail to mention that the linux boxen come with a free copy of Office (a $300.00 value), free copy of Photoshop ($??? Value), and thousands of other free programs that will ultimately save you money. No, it doesn't make up for the base price of the OS, but with Linux, you don't just get the OS.
My used Thinkpad A21M will not give me 3d with either 6.06 or 6.10 using the fglrx or ati drivers. It is really frustrating. I can not change wireless networks without a reboot. My desktops are Windows free and have been for over a year now. OK, I admit, I have the ability to dual boot for a few games. Windows 98 runs nicely in a small VM for some of those Office type apps that refuse to run with Wine.
B.S. Everyone knows pirates only carry swords. That's not even threatening because you can out run them and their stupid peg legs. It looks like the *AA is just wasting more of our tax dollars.
I was looking to make a push for this this month. Now that someone started the topic here, maybe we can get more attention.
ubuntu.com
suse.com
These are the two topics I had started to get people to contact the major game producers and get them to notice us. Develop native applications, don't charge the Microsoft Tax just to be able to play a video game.
As for Tux Gaming and LGP have nice products, but I don't think they quite compare to the major publishers out there. Why not send a message this month?
I was looking for a reason to completely abandon Windows. This looks like the end of the line for me and Battlefield. Thanks for the memories. But I will not be willing to install malware just to play games..... well, I mean on top of the MS malware.
EA should just skip the malware and paint pr0n onto all the ads for us. That is a game worth buying.
Since I can't keep a copy of Vista running in a VM on my Linux machine, I am forced to stop helping friends and family who will decide to "Upgrade" to Vista. I keep a copy of XP and a backup image of the VM just to help out when they toast their machines.
The funny thing was that when installing in WMWare, the latest Vista Build caused a BSOD on each reboot. It was complaining about USB drivers or something. I couldn't even read it, cuz I was laughing too much. A $200.00 Wal-Mart (Microtel) Sempron 2200 running Vista inside of Ubuntu without any problems except for a flaky USB driver? It was almost promising. But since I can't have a copy in a VM, and I wouldn't install something that bloated as a dual boot.... Bye Bye Microsoft. Oh, and Dell... I am not doing your tech support anymore. Stop using cheap parts that burn out, or hire mroe people for your call centers. I am not doing it anymore.
Ever since I started using Firefox, I forgot that ads existed. Thanks MS for reminding me why I dumped IE and then Windows as a whole.

I have linux installed on all four home computers. Put me down for 4. All happen to be Ubuntu also, if that helps count.

Didn't someone already patent: /dev/sda /home ?
Sudo mount
but why would you want to?

Of course you can search. Just bring up the page in Firefox and hit CTRL+F and then tell it what you want to find. OOS FTW!

Can it be run under WINE?
Why not just run it on a Win 9x virtual machine?
Would like to, but I don't have it installed. Stupid VM limitations. Ubuntu FTW!

Would you like to install SearchBar Helper? Select Yes to Close this Window.
Great, more adware that won't run on linux. Thanks for nothing EA
