Does this really need patent protection? Do they stand to lose a profit if other companies use these methods? Or is there the possibility to license them?
In mechanical engineering, we play doctor with the girls from biomedicine. Now that I know how the CS majors play doctor, I'm glad that I wasn't accepted...
All wireless equipment share this flaw. The plug and pray windows crowd will hear the warnings and ignore them because "it will never happen to me". The paranoid linux crowd (that's me) will never use the stuff because "I won't let it happen to me". And the mac crowd will just laugh because the insecure technology doesn't support their OS.
Wood hacks a porn filter and the world hears about it. If he had raped his neighbor, it would have barely been local news. What type of sexual outlet would you prefer that he has?
One must not forget that soldiers DON'T have the right to express their opinion. Additionally, assuming that the right is implied even if it is expressly revoked by the UCMJ, every right bears a responsibility: the right to bear arms also means the responsibility to secure your weapon from theft and misuse. Likewise, the right to free speech also means the responsibility to shut your trap about sensitive military information.
I often see US soldiers blogging and revealing details that compromise their safety. If the soldiers actually realised that the enemy ALSO has an internet connection, and had self-moderated, then there would be no need for this. This goes for pictures as well. As an infantry soldier (Israeli) I like to laugh at the pictures that the US soldiers post on the net and often want to write to them to tell them 1) NOT to do what they are doing in the photo, and 2) NOT to post photos revealing methods and procedures.
The censorship is for the good of soldiers. I'm all for it.
This is supposed to be a news source, or a blog? The author says right up front that he is "a big fan of Vista," and I don't recall a journalist ever saying outright thathe has a preference for one side of a story. Also, note the Ubuntu and Vista logos. The Ubuntu logo looks like he scanned it with a sheet of toilet paper between the scanner and the page. The Vista logo, however, looks perfect.
I also find it funny how half of the author's tests end up in a tie, including the Last Word. If the author is so indecisive, then maybe doing product comparisons should not be his field.
I just tried and got this:
Thanks for your interest in Movielink, the leading movie download service. Sorry, but Movielink is presently unavailable to users outside of the United States.
So, not only are they limiting themselves to 80% of the internet population by requiring IE, they are limiting themselves to 4% of the Earth's population by requiring that one reside in the United States. Maybe they are also blocking people wearing green underpants, but I can't get far enough into their site to check.
My wife's mother has 6 neighbors with open wifi connections. As I have no other way to access the 'net there, I actually went knocking on doors to see who's they were and if I could use them (I had been using them for a day even before I asked). The two that I managed to locate and spoke to had no problem with me connecting, and both even asked me why I bothered knocking on doors. The general attitude was obviously: "It's open, go ahead and use it. What do I care?"
Cross site scripting has been going on for as long as there has been JavaScript. What's new in this incarnation? See http://what-is-what.com/what_is/xss.html (disclaimer: my site)
"Mr. SpaghettiCoder, we found that this corn is toxic to rats. Please eat some so that we can test it's effects on humans". When you get the results, write back. If I don't hear from you, I'll know to stay away from the GM corn.
Anybody else notice that maize is spelled maze in tfa?
MS thinks that all property - intellectual or otherwise - should be in the hands of large corporations and not in the hands of private individuals. More precisely: in the hands of one large corporation. Guess which one.
The moment this is implemented the differences between carriers will boil down to price and service quality. It would be nice to see the wireless industry divided like the pizza industy: cheap, decent offerings and expensive, high quality offerings. That at least would be better than the current confusing crop conflicting plans and prices.
Reporting is delivering facts, not opinions or misleading information. Th author closes tfa by referring to the switch as an experiment. It is clearly NOT an experiment, that is just the authors way of saying how stupid he finds the idea. The author is misleading and I no longer trust him, nor ABC news.
The site logo clearly says "Communications from the Open Source Software Lab at Microsoft" They are getting paid, they've got to do something.
Not the whole beast is controlled directly from the head, you know.
I'm married to a redhead. Over half my girlfriends were redheads. I _like_ dangerous. Maybe I just will give Vista a spin.
Oh, wait, it's not compatible with Grub!

I've always taken Google at their word of "do no evil". For an American company, they do seem to really care about the consumer.

Harry should have died. It's a children's book. Let them know that shit happens.
Yes, in the EU, the government still looks out for the consumer...
As Henry Ford hath said: You can see whatever type of breasts that you like, so long as you like black.
...because that's how many years we are going to wait until we see it.

Now Japan is like every other country: Israel, Germany, and even the US. Welcome to the G8!
