Is there something I don't understand? I don't think unlocking a US cellphone has any additional value than an unlocked US cellphone. The phone's most value is on its original network and it's almost worthless on any other network.

Why would you think that? How is a phone worthless on another network? Do you even understand what unlocking is?

Here in the UK, lots of little shops offer to unlock your phone. And people pay for it, because its worth moneys to have an unlocked phone.

It will not have the sense UI. It has the normal android UI but modified slightly .... with lasers (no I'm not joking). The screen will definitely look better thanks to the OLED technology. And this OLED technology also helps the battery life - it may have better battery life than the Droid. Also, early images of the device clearly show a flash light (http://www.cellphones.ca/news/upload/2009/10/htc-passion-back.jpg) (yes that's the Nexus one, not the passion/bravo. There was a lot of early confused about the naming)

The first mistake most people make when talking about SSDs vs HDDs is comparing cost/GB. SSDs are not for storing data. They're for installing your OS and programs, while your data goes to the fileserver or the secondary drive in the workstation.

They're for whatever the fuck I want them for. Who are you to tell me how to use my SSD?

Anyway, the mistake is comparing cost/GB in a LINEAR way. The first 10 GB is worth a lot more than the last 10GB on a 250 GB drive. There is a utility curve for GBs (just like the money one).

The majority of people don't give a damn about being able to reprogram a device. People want things to be simple. Sure, you are an expert with computers and want to configure everything. It's just like how an engineer doesn't like to buy a whole car but instead buys the engine and the brakes and puts it all together (ok that was a terrible example). You wouldn't be able to put a car together - it would be of no use to you. A lack of choice in certain areas (eg in the app store) is often good - choice can be intimidating.

http://mobile.slashdot.org/story/09/09/03/0258243/iPhone-Straining-ATampT-Network?from=rss $18,000,000,000 isn't serious? What should they be spending this year then?

It will be at least 10 years before we have 3G coverage on even one carrier that can handle enough of a load to completely replace Wifi and have good coverage IMO.

No kid needs a cell phone until he or she is old enough to take a bus without supervision. If (s)he wants to talk to grandma (s)he can use your phone.

? I don't think anyone is claiming that a mobile is necessary. It's just very useful. It would be more convinient for the child to use his own phone.

Come back when you have kids of your own.

It's got nothing to do with having children. The parent is not the one using the mobile. Don't twist it around so that its about the parent.
