I have no idea why anyone would ever say such a ridiculous statement which will inevitably be proven wrong. The megapixel march continues. I wasn't discussing goals. And yes you're right to think that it's possible to have a server which doesn't go down. However, you know I was referring to the probability of a failure. Also, the probability of a server failing is VERY relevant. "Sir, the server nearly failed yesterday after the temperature of it became extremely high. It couldn't handle the load and the traffic is only going to increase. I would recommend buying a new, faster server." "What the HECK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! That server has had 100% UPTIME! WHO CARES IF THERE'S A CHANCE IT FAILS?!"

  13. Re:Never go down? on Outage Knocks Gmail Offline For Many Users · · Score: 1

I disagree. 100% uptime is impossible. There will always be some probability of the server and all of it's backups failing. If it was possible to have a server which never went down then backup servers wouldn't be needed. The chance of one server going down in a year might be 10%. Using a backup would reduce that to 1%. Using another backup leads to 0.1% and so on. It's never quite 0%.

What utter bullshit. This is online poker we're talking about. The term cleaning out tables isn't used online because players will simply bring more chips to the table (very easy to do - it can be automatic) or the player will leave and someone else will join which makes me think you're not familiar with online poker. Besides, even if you were colluding with two friends it's not possible to "clean out every table [you] played at" unless you were running like god. On top of that, you would have also been caught not only by the regs, but by the software too.

Reading your post makes me angry. There's already enough misinformation about online poker. Why lie about cheating online? Do you want attention? If it's the second case then you have succeeded thanks to the ignorance of many slashdot members of what online poker is actually like. Cheating is NOT rife. It is possible to win consistently at poker. It's possible to make a good living from online poker and many people do.

If the computer was indeed perfect, betting history would be completely irrelevant. That is the difference between exploitative play and optimal play. If a player went all in every hand before the flop for 50X the BB at 6 max table, a bot playing exploitatively might call with TT (for example), whereas a bot playing optimally would only call with AA. The flaw with exploitative play is that he may have been going all in legitamately with AA every time and now you're a huge underdog with just two tens. With optimal play this is irrelevant.

No bot plays perfect poker. I'm sure that no bot will be perfect for a very, very long time (way beyond my lifetime). The mathematics behind poker is incredibly complex. A good book about it is the mathematics of poker by Bill Chen and Jerrod Ankenman. From reading your post it seems to me that you have a very little idea about the problems with solving poker and even how to play poker. You can't just call when you have the odds and fold when you don't. It just doesn't work that way - that strategy is easily exploited. I'm also not sure why you were modded +5 Insightful...
