Arrrrgh!! Okay, MacOS X SERVER was killed on Intel because it wouldnt create a high enough profit margin to justify x86 support, but it WILL be out sometime this week(!). MacOS X THE CONSUMER VERSION will be out around Q3 1999. Both will have the MACH MICROKERNEL, a BSD 4.4 layer, YellowBox Framework layer (both Objective-C and Java), a Carbon layer (legacy MacOS API that will slowly be phased out) and a Good solid GUI. If you people bother to actually READ THINGS you might get your god damn facts STRAIGHT...SHEESH. Learn a little before you start you next flame war!
Regarding G3's (PPC 750s), i ASSUME you know why Be has not ported BeOS to it. If not, read: http://www.be.com/support/qandas/faqs/faq-0408.h tml
Be is not the bitch of intel either, but it IS in their interest to write for highly-used platforms like x86. You dont HAVE to use intel chips either...use AMD or Cyrix if you want.
There is no demand for BeOS on Alpha...if there was large enough demand, Be would probably port to it...they dont have unlimited resources, you know...they are currently spending a great deal of time trying to support more hardware devices.

gtk is just way too f'ugly to go on BeOS and GIMP needs a much more intuitive interface beofre it thinks of moving to a system that has a GUI that ISNT some grand hack

Whyyyy, back in MY day, if we wanted to hack something we had to do it the hard way, with a pick ax or hatchet! And we didnt HAVE these fancy computers you kids these days to...we use mainframes that would fill a small airplane hanger, and we LOVED it, damnit! We bootstraped everything by hand, and again we loved it! Oh, excuse me, I have to take my medication now.

who CARES? has anyone actually read archie comics since the 60's? Kids read like DC and Marvel et al. these days, even most little kids. I NEVER found Archie or Popeye (another suck-ass comic) or any of that stuff even MILDLY funny. Sheesh... maybe we should/. archiecomics.com
Oh HELL yeah! VB bites except for like teaching 12 year olds how to program. One more person that realized that M$ is crap, and therefore must be flushed.
I SUPPOSE its cool...but like i really couldn't care about Hexen anymore. It was a cool game at the time, but its like totally outdated, kind of like too little, too late. However it IS a good step forward for Linux gaming in general. What's REALLY gonna kick some ass is the simultanious Q3 release on Linux, Mac and Win32. Hell yeah:)
I went for a year and worked at the same time...I learned jack shit in college and i learned a TON about the computer industry from working, so after i finished my 1st year, i just didn't go back. I mean i taught myself, C, C++ (including about a dozen SDKs), Objective C, Perl, all that good stuff on my own by reading and doing. I know that this kinda thing doesnt work for say law students or pre-med or what have ya, but for something like programming, college just distracts and stalls you from learning how cool the real-world industry is.
