Perhaps its a baby star. Stars dont have to just start from a gaseous cloud, I propose. No reason why a planet cant build up a significant amount of matter that its sucked off of its parent star to start the gravitational collapse that ignites its own fusion process.
Just think outside the box a little bit guys.
1. How many people are forecast to die in the next 10 years from a short-range shoulder fired missile hitting a passenger airliner?
2. How many people are forecast to die in the next 10 years from starvation?
3. How many people are forecast to die in the next 10 years from cancer?
4. How many people are forecast to die in the next 10 years from ____(fill in the blank)_____
etc. etc. (repeat through the most deadly scenarios)
Now rank the above in terms of the likelihood of solving the problem weighted by the number of lives saved.
That's where you put your billions.
Exactly. If my three year old intentionally spills a cup full of milk on the floor and then my two year old only spill a little, I am going to make them both clean it up equally to teach them not to spill their milk.
A small consulting company that I know of in central Illinois used Pegasus way back in the mid 90s and used the term "PMail" instead of "EMail" in their conversations... ala "Did you read that PMail I sent you?"
This was even funnier after they migrated to Outlook and kept on using "PMail"! Some of their folks still use the term to this day!
Uhh, no. Paper trail != Paper ballots != ballot stuffing.
Paper trail (reciept) = I walk out of the building knowing that the vote I thought I hit was the vote that got counted.
Why would someone take a receipt and go back and claim that it was wrong, if they were trying to rig the vote, when all they had to do was press the "other guy" in the first place?
I guess that's one way of putting it. The mayan calendar predicts a massive change in the earth every 640 years, of which the next is 2012, as you noted. I suppose the end of the world "as we know it" would technically be correct, but a major planetary change, however initially subtle, is definitely coming up according to them.
If its good enough for R.E.M, its good enough for me.
Ahh, but if the Peak Oil situation WAS at hand there would be far more money and attention and urgency focused on developing alternatives to oil... its far better to keep those innovators and investors asleep, comforted in the knowledge that good ol oil will be around for years and years.:-P
I'm not arguing that I should be able to get my music for free, but once I pay for it I can do with it whatever I want, as long as it's fair use. I'm not going to accept his version of "fair" - probably no media shifting, no format shifting, if possible no time shifting and hardware-locked to a specific player - I want the rights I deserve for having paid.
I'd be more willing to accept his definition of fair use if I didnt have to, in his vision, pay $15 for each locked-in, uncopyable version of a cd... especially since the artists get $1-2 of that $15. Let me pay 10 cents instead of a dollar a song and I'd be much more likely to buy multiple versions locked into a specific format/media/hardware.
You know, I, like so many others, have been focusing on Linux being in the line of sights for MS and all of a sudden it hits me... if they really are open to other deals with other vendors, perhaps its Oracle who they're aiming for. Is the prize the RDBMS market? Could MS be bolstering all the other major Linux vendors to shut out Oracle?
What the hell were these conservatives supposed to run as if not democrats? Certainly not as a third party! The two main parties have a strangle-hold on money and national level visibility. Lieberman may have gotten in as an independant, but he is on a completely different level than some of the new blood, who have no name and no constituency. No, the only choice these folks had was to run under the democrat banner and get that national fund infusion into their campaigns.
This country needs at least 2 more political parties, but that will be the last thing that the demoncrats and repugnacans will allow.
Tom Bearden, is that you?
Sounds like you need an "Approximation Method for Eigenvalues of Very Large Matrices".

...so next they'll deduct another 20 for just working in a hospital.

I image he would rather work with actual actors on actual sets instead of the Blue Man Group on a blue screen.

...makes sense since they both make a fuss over tar.
Or your own piss.

1. Read everyone else's clueless speculation 2. Publish your own clueless speculation 3. Get Google to laugh at you 4. Profit?!
No big deal, you just have to buy a few more rolls of fly strips and hang them from your windows and doors.
...or they've contracted Syphilis from screwing so many people over.
This reminds me of a phrase I read in a Robert Anton Wilson book... sorry I dont have it at hand, so I'll have to paraphrase:
The only reason we are not running off of solar power is that the energy companies have not figured how to put a meter between us and the sun

I'd love to know what applications are predominantly run on them... i.e. atmospheric modeling, gene sequencing, drug research, etc.

Either in a landfill or in data stores, the archaeologists are going to have to dig thru an awful lot of spam.
They just need to offshore the audit of the offshore code.
