Regardless of why they are moving, the point is that they are. The cities and the infrastructure aren't mobile, but the people are. People move and resettle all the time for many reasons. Calling any human settlement "fixed" is rather misleading.
Don't handle change well? Umm what kind of time scale are we talking about here? Human populations, especially in urban concentrations are very mobile. The vast majority of major cities have popped up from small towns over the course of 100 years or less. http://hongwrong.com/hong-kong...
Not to mention that the original replacement for TEL was MTBE http://www.epa.gov/mtbe/gas.ht... which is still in use in limited quantities. MTBE has been largely replaced with ethanol for octane boosting. Ethanol is pretty cheap compared to MTBE, but it carries large government subsides.
The first time I had to use Windows 8 it was at a hotel and I was trying to print a PDF. I had to give up... Metro is the worst interface ever. I'm sure if you had a day long training explaining where you randomly move your mouse to so buttons appear it might be usable, but seriously... I'd rather use DOS. I mean if I can only use one application at a time, where is the advantage?
Ahh so it's not just little sisters being computer illiterate, but also for your mother who stays in the kitchen cooking... The full quote is SO much better.
But Miata is the answer to everything! Just ask Jalopnik, who like Slashdot is owned by idiots (Gawker in this case) that insist on repeatedly pissing off their users by changing the site layout and commenting system.
I agree. Software should be in the same realm as patents. You have to disclose how they work (source code) and then the government grants you exclusive rights to sell that for the next XX years.
Except the state can forbid you from leaving (using force) and/or charge a hefty fine for doing so. The whole libertarian viewpoint is about voluntary transactions. The whole point of the state is to use force to perform transactions. A company should be free to enact these policies and workers should be free to quit and consumers should be free to boycott. If you don't like the way a company treats employees, then don't work there and don't buy their stuff. The problem solves itself pretty quickly.
The problem with people who hate libertarians is they assume everyone is as lazy as they are. Gee, to solve this problem I might have to change my lifestyle... Why can't the government just force the change and then I can just sit here and bitch on Slashdot.
Well how is that any different in reasoning from what the OP was saying? If everyone goes to solar power, there will still need to be a power grid for certain events and failures... Everyone will need to take power from the grid at some point so the government will feel justified in taxing you to maintain it. At some point everyone will need food, does that justify taxing people for food insurance?
Except I hate that because every freaking website has different rules. Then I have to remember what stupid arbitrary rule I had to follow to make the password so I can remember what password I made up. Instead of being able to remember it, I email myself the password rules for the stupid website and a hint so I can remind myself what the password is.
How can we eliminate all the buttons? Ooh, what if we could just make one BIG button that does everything? No one wants to see text, just pictures! Make everything round, no make it square, no, trapezoidal!
These are the things that interface designers have been discussing recently and it's pissing me off. From the Ribbon, to the new Start screen, to Iphones, to the new Google Maps. What the hell is wrong with a fast, intuitive, and logical interface that has a bunch of text links and visible controls?
You'd probably just end up with a lot of this: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/ho...

Leaded fuel can still be sold for use in aircraft and race cars in the US.

Heck I'd be happy if having a single desktop across multiple screens worked worth a damn.
Technically the Earth's core would drop into it... But I guess it depends on your frame of reference.

Ahh, I see... The mass goat.cx posting fest. The worst thing you could wish upon someone. Makes sense.
I am allowed to log in and mod down anyone who posts?
I propose we call it TildeBracket ~] (are brackets allowed in web addresses?)

Isn't that the reason Obamacare was considered Constitutional? Because they taxed you for not using healthcare?

Maybe it's not a rock...
Maybe it's a rock lobster? ROCK LOBSTER! ROCK LOBSTER? Rock... Rock... Rock... ROCK LOBSTER!
Except for that one guy from Ghostbusters II...
This would be an awesome feature. Find gas station/hotel/restaurant along my route. Why the hell does this not exist?

Yes, it's too bad that the government printing money to pay for science programs creates inflation that reduces the net spending on science programs.
Yes, because no one will spend money to save a kid from cancer...
