that brings up an interesting point. Wouldn't the microwaves heat up the air on the way down? And what if planes have to fly past? And all the line loss is in heat so we'd effectively have like millions of miles of heating coils as our power grid! They better invent warm superconductors then. This may perhaps be the stupidest way to fight global warming I've ever heard in my life.

real companies shouldn't be using them NOW! InPhase made holographic storage disks that already beat Hitachi in storage and speed. Right now, at this very moment you can pick up the phone and order an InPhase drive and disks that have 1.6TB each. I believe the disks are under $100 each too. Yeah they're write once but for backups and video recording, which are the main things anyone would ever use a drive that big for, they're the best by far. Plus they write at 120 MB/sec. If Hitachi has 4TB magnetic hard drives in 2011, they'll be out of business cuz that's pathetic.

they'd be more likely to do that by accident. If they're off by like 0.001 degrees in space, they'll hit like 5 miles to the right and torch a whole town with microwaves or however they plan to beam it down. Nobody will want one of those plants anywhere near their town which means tons and tons of line loss from having to run power cables so far.

btw it only takes a couple people to actually shut down one of them. If you know of a gold selling website, just scan it for e-mail addresses. If you find one for the same domain as the site, get everyone you know to sign them up for like a hundred spam lists. There are A LOT of voluntary, mass spam sign up sites like what coupons.com used to be. By the next day they'll have GBs of spam and their server will either have hit some sort of bandwidth or mail limit or the sudden constant surge in traffic will just make their host shut them down. Plus they won't be able to do business through their e-mail account anymore. No matter what happens it will be bad for them. Try it sometime :D

You know I've heard of companies with seriously fast connections blasting like a mile of broadband around their building and only giving their employees access to it to encourage them to live within a mile and cut down on commuting time and carbon emmissions. So yeah free broadband wireless for employees who would only use it during not so busy offers when they're not at work because not at work means there's not people working at work to use the connection. Lol it's complicated but basically the traffic thing takes care of itself is what I'm saying. It's way more common to just hook up a partial T1 to employees houses if they live within a mile but wireless is cool too.
So in other words, this is sort of a green idea too if they do it right :D except for the whole open to the public thing which I think is stupid cuz people will just file share on it 24/7

So yeah you buy it fot just under $300 and later when you've saved up a little more you can get an external hard drive.
It's hard to tell from the article if that's a possibility or not because they say it's sold with "no external storage" but does that mean they removed any hookup for it or it just doesn't come with it?
