No, I won't/wrists...however, I will sit and watch one of the most complicated and useful tools that we as humans have created be destroyed.
The Internet didn't used to be a bunch of bullshit...but I (kind of) agree with you, it is quickly becoming that. It's purpose is slowly being forgotten as it is being inundated by advertisements, scams, and general greed...just like everything else our species creates.
To me, writing was an important invention as well...however, by itself, writing is limited by A. the speed in which you could put the letters on paper or what-have-you, B. the speed in which you could make copies of what you had written, and C. The speed in which you could circulate those copies.
The Internet completely sidesteps all of those things.
I will give you a very good reason why. The Internet is mankind's single greatest invention.
Not antibiotics. Not the motor vehicle. The Internet. Why?
Information has been given the ability to travel the entire globe in less than the time required for you to read this post. Think about that. A coup could happen in an African country, and literally the entire planet could know about it within five minutes. A discovery for an infectious disease could be made at some remote lab in Antarctica...five minutes later, the whole world would know.
Information between teachers, doctors, scientists, philosophers, religious figures....the collective knowledge of our entire species is just a point and click away.
On the contrary, the Dreamcast was regarded as the first console that came out of the box with some form of network connectivity...Granted, there was Xband and all that noise prior to the Dreamcast, but the Dreamcast was still the first to have it built in...also, keep in mind that at the time the Dreamcast was released, market penetration for broadband was next to nothing in the US
Plus, although it's winter I don't need another space heater.
I bought my 360 at launch...It didn't me long to realize that it would heat up the entire room rather quickly. In the summer, this sucks complete monkey balls.
In the winter (due to where I live) it's CHEAPER to run the 360 to heat the family room to "comfort" status than it is to use our central heating system...go figure.
I would have to say that the heat output is really the only complaint that I have about the system (well, that and the fact that it blows as a DVD player...can't read 1 out of 10 DVD movies I put in there)...RRoD and all that noise, I've never had a single issue with any of the three 360's that I own (knock on wood)...two of those 360's are tucked away inside a media center, no less!
I still don't get why everyone's comparing the $2 special, Gen1.5 "Wii" against true "next-gen" (Gen2.0) consoles?
Maybe you are just super-young, or maybe you just aren't as hopelessly nerdy as me, but the Wii/360/PS3 is considered the 7th generation....GC/Xbox/PS2 were considered 6th...
I didn't...but I switched from smoking one substance (which is legal but shouldn't be) to smoking a different substance (which is illegal but shouldn't be)
Blue Dragon, DOA 4, Beautiful Katamari, Rockstar Table Tennis (coming out for the Wii, but not yet released), Dead Rising, Kameo, Over G Fighters, PGR 4, Far Cry Instincts Predator, Saints Row.
That's a shame that you view the 360 that way...I own all three 7th-gen consoles and my 360 definately gets the most playtime out of all three. Don't get me wrong, I like my PS3 very much, but as far as exclusives go, I definately have far more for my 360 than I do for my PS3...
Ah yes...you know it's slashdot when a story about a Nintendo game has TAMs (Trolls Against Microsoft) blasting a game that has sold millions of copies.
I'm not saying Halo 3 is the best game ever, and I'm not saying it's the worst game ever...but Halo 3 sure as hell has sold more copies than any other game so far this gen...
Isn't number sold what you trolls like to talk about the most?
As the person that first responded to you noted, I did indeed say "this generation".
Overall, my favourite would be a tie between the SNES and the PC...If I absoutely had to pick one though, I would likely say PC due to the sheer number of titles that I played on that platform.
The SNES does hold a lot of Street Fighter II Turbo and NBA Jam memories for me though:-)
First, my non-fanboy credentials. I own an Atari 2600, Jaguar, NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, GBA, DS Lite, Genesis, Game Gear, Dreamcast, PS1/PS2/PS3/PSP, Xbox, Xbox 360, and a fairly up-to-date gaming PC.
That being said, my 360 BY FAR has provided me with the most enjoyment and gaming time this generation. I myself haven't experienced a RRoD, however two of my friends have...and you know what? They got them replaced and continue to buy games for the system. Why? Because it's a fun fun FUN system.
The controller feels great and controls tightly (aside from the horrendous d-pad...but no system really has a decent d-pad anymore), the first party/exclusive games are fun and replayable , the graphics are fantastic on an HDTV (and still look damn good on an SDTV), and the interface is fluid and easy to use.
The hardware itself has it's obvious issues for some people, but overall it is a damn fun console and if mine ever went belly up, I would replace it in a second.
Check out the particle differences and some of the texture differences in Bioshock DX9 compared to DX10...the particle effects are the primary difference, but DX10 in Bioshock overall definately looks more refined. That being said, unless you have a rig that has AA and AF maxed out, the differences between the 360 version of Bioshock on an HDTV and at high resolution on a widescreen PC monitor are negligable...
I played TFC too. I played a lot of multiplayer games online for free. I also played WoW religiously for nearly 2 years straight (if you include the closed and open betas).
I like playing games online with my 360. That requires paying $50 a year. Would I rather it be free? Of course I would. Do I have an absolute blast with the time I spend on live? Yes I do.
I certainly get my money's worth...of the 20-30 hours a week that I game, roughly 10-15 hours of that is spent playing Live. That's 520 to 780 hours of Live gaming a year for me. That's a lot of great gaming time (and a whole lot of great gaming memories, I might add) for less than the cost of one new 360 game.
Like I said, it's worth it to me. Sorry if that doesn't make sense to you.
Never mind, got confused as to which thread you were talking about...still, while I may own all the stuff from Sony, I absolutely despise them as a company...I just like their products enough to put my hatred for them aside because I like videogames.
You can hate a company and love their products, you know...it's not illegal (yet, anyway...)
As the original poster, I can happily report that I own every console and handheld ever released by Nintendo, Sega, Sony, and Microsoft...I also have owned current by two year gaming PC since 1991.
If by fanboy you meant a fanboy of videogames in general, then yes I am. If you meant fanboy as in rabid moron, go find someone else to troll.
Play as many different games on as many different systems as you can. Limiting yourself to one gaming brand is just plain foolish.
now it seems mainly about going through the motions.
I dated a girl back in high school whose father was baptist and whose mother was Jewish. Between going to church and temple with them occasionally, and going to church and temple with my own family (again, mother christian father jewish) I have seen very much of exactly what you are describing.
When so many of those people kept looking at their watches and/or looking bored out of their mind, it made me wonder why they went in the first place...
First I would like to thank you for your warmth. How very christian of you.
Secondly, I NEVER ONCE said that someone is dumb, or stupid, or misguided, or whatever else for believing in god or following a religion. I simply said that the idea of god in a religious sense (and, in some cases, the spiritual sense) has no place in modern society. People continue spending vast amounts of capital (as they always have) building their big churches while the poor continue to suffer. They continue condemning the nonbelievers (yes, I know, this is a small group of people...I'm not lumping all religious people into that group). They continue to do things that contradict their own "beliefs".
I'm sorry, but I refuse to take part in the CULT that organized religion is. I have done my studying...hell, I went to private school for the first 10 years of my academic career. I have read both the torah and bible, I have read the que'ran, I have read the Bhagavad Gita...the list goes on. They all say the same thing, just with different names.
Modern day organized religion is indeed a cult, and I, as a free-thinking individual person, refuse to partake in it.
That just proves my point...the internet can be used for entertainment, which just lends to it's versatility
No, I won't /wrists...however, I will sit and watch one of the most complicated and useful tools that we as humans have created be destroyed.

The dreamcast actually had a built-in modem...now, you could replace it with a FASTER modem, but it did come with a modem built-in...
No integrated storage though.

I understand...welfare checks are getting pretty tiny these days...you have better things to spend your money on.
They expect a man to be entitled to the sweat of his brow.
Isn't he?
Easily done with a 360...
Blue Dragon, DOA 4, Beautiful Katamari, Rockstar Table Tennis (coming out for the Wii, but not yet released), Dead Rising, Kameo, Over G Fighters, PGR 4, Far Cry Instincts Predator, Saints Row.
Exclusives that I own for the PS3:
Lair, Genji, Resistence, Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

Enlighten us. Name ten PS3 exclusives that you would consider worth paying 60 dollars for.

Please tell me this is some kind of joke. Maybe way back when EA actually produced quality games and wasn't busy drinking douch sauce, but now?
This news hurts my soul.
ummm....Half Life: Source, anyone?
I played TFC too. I played a lot of multiplayer games online for free. I also played WoW religiously for nearly 2 years straight (if you include the closed and open betas).
