they finally realized that asdf@asdf.com and john@doe.com and others similar to those aren't real.. now I need to start a new schema for email addresses..
(If these are in fact REAL Email addresses, I apologize in advance, since you must be getting a s-load of email.)
I buy parts and not ready-to-go computers and I have a LCD monitor and not a CRT.
and besides people shouldn't really be throwing away their old computers. Charities, schools, and third world countries would love to receive computers and it's also a tax deduction. In essence, they are charging ppl and then they are giving the money back to the ppl. hmm.. sounds like a scam to me..
Or for the more lazy... You can download Adaware from their main site here (but it's temporarily down) or get it from cnet.com here. This will scrub your computer of spyware you have now on it. I would periodically use it as well.
While browsing I would probably use a blocker in addition to your firewall. Maybe something like Spyblocker which will block malicious bugs, cookies, ads, spyware, and worms. This can be downloaded here.
That should keep your computer covered.

The "moral" highground of not paying for CD's because you don't like the way companies rip off artists is not moral at all; in fact, you're contributing to the devaluation of the artists' career by refusing to pay for the music at all.
Yes, but in the absence of buying cds I am able to save more money and then spend it on live concerts and conert t-shirts where I know the artist will receive a bigger margin from than if I bought the cd and then wasn't able to attend the concert. And depending on the artist I will fork over more money to get better and better seats.
I am not spending money on a record company so they can compensate for their loses. I am spending money on the band which I feel has earned my money.
At a restaurant you tip the waiter/waitress according to the service you received. I have received no service from the record company and the goods that I have bought from the record company are tainted and are useless to me. Whereas the concert provides an outlet of emotion and energy for usually 3 hours including the intro band. This I will pay money for. I know what I am paying for when I go to a concert - I might not get to hear my favorite songs, but I went into it knowing full well I might not. With buying a cd I do not know if I'm going to be able to play it now.
I do not own a standard cd player. So the cd is useless to me and I paid $18 for the useless product, which in itself is a ripoff since it costs them $1 to make the cd.
So am I contributing to the devaluation of the band by not buying the cds but instead going to the concerts? I don't think so.

Details can be found here. The isos can be downloaded from here and all bug reports can be discussed here.
Very few 'really ugly' bugs have been found in the first beta, and we have been able to concentrate on hardware recognition, improving the *drake* tools, and updating the packages. For more details about what has changed since the beta1, and what should be tested, please wait for the articles in the "test this" serial.
I'm glad some people are being allowed to view the site. I am on a 10 Mbs connection running Windows 2000 Professional. I tried viewing it in Internet Explorer 6.0 with all the patches and it loaded up with crap and is still loading after 15 minutes. (At first I didn't allow cookies and the site wouldn't load at all just a big blank screen and then I got a Javascript error in line 1.) Next was Netscape 4.79.. well 45 minutes later it is still trying to load the first page. Mozilla build ID: 2002011803 and it loaded quickly (30 seconds) but like IE it was the same garbled mess with no images. (Again I disallowed cookies and was presented with a blank screen.) Opera (I am identifying it as MSIE 5.0) performed the best with rendering the front page in 30 seconds with all the images and text.
In other words the site is useless to me and I for one won't go to the site again for updates or medal tallies.
I am undergoing a massive computer overhaul. A couple months ago I went out and bought a new monitor. Of course I bought a LCD. The LCD I bought was the Sony SDM-N80. I had never even seen the product. I just bought it on Sony's good name and the price I had to pay. The LCD is very good quality. The picture is crisp and clear. The space it cleared on my desk was immense. I never knew I had a desk until I bought it. LCD's require less power which also was a selling factor as well as the max. resolution is 1600*1200, 18.1" display, and has a Mac adapter for when I do decide to ever buy one for the reasons of a certain iPOD. Here are some specs for it. Not too many places have reviewed it (arsTechnica and Tom's did not), maybe because it is so expensive. Here is one review of the product.
The following page also reviews the more expensive LCDs.
It might have been this article on theregister about Natlie Imbruglia's cd.
The cd contains a Windows only application that will allow the user to listen to all the songs on their computer in an mp3 format without them able to rip the cd. Therefore computers with anything but Windows will not be able to run the program.
How's that for being able to choose the medium you wish to listen to music?
You can use your computer as your mp3 server without having to worry about the size of your hard drives. You already have a CD burner on your computer as well. If you have a SO and they are in another room they could be listening to the mp3s on the computer while you are playing the latest FPS. This is accessed via the phone line and you can still receive phone call.
So this setup also has internet connectivity (computer) and compatible with Ethernet and PNA adapters. The only thing it doesn't have is the TV display. The price is only a mere $199.95 as well.
Am I the only one getting hungry off of the today's topics?
First there are donuts.. mmmmm donuts..
and now cookies.. mmmmm cookies...
then you have ghost stories topic thread and I'm sure the Shhh! Constructing a Truly Quiet Gaming PC was posted so that anyone who built it would be scared if someone yelled 'Boo!' at them.
Stability I balk at that! I installed the OS and tried to open up the boot.ini file to configure it properly (yes, it tore apart the proper configuration) and *bam* less than 3 minutes on the machine it crashed.. no bsod just restarted it by itself.
as for gaming. Well the gaming is nice and smooth but even with this 9x compatibility mode or DOS compatibility mode it still will not play old games. I tried playing Shadow Warrior and some other FPS games and they didn't work. But it handles RTCW MP Beta and Red Alert 2 beautifully. But I'll stick with 95 or 98se as my old gaming platform.
All this is doing to the techie is making him/her create another partition. So now they can have their Linux, FreeBSD, BeOS, Windoze 9x and now Windoze XP. Forget ME and 2000 and stick with 98SE and XP.
Also buy more RAM. That beast eats more RAM faster than you can feed it. Stable yes, glutton pig for hardware yes.
Other options that have been in past OSs are now missing, ie. the Java Virtual Machine. I hated downloading that over and over each time I upgraded to the latest RC release and now the Gold code.
Well that's about all I have to say on that subject. Nice OS, but could be better.
The posted article on MSNBC is wrong.. If you went to Washington, DC in search of the Pentagon you are going to be searching a long time.. The Pentagon is in Arlington, Virginia.. It's a stone's throw from DC but not in DC..

below is the article from them stating who has owned up to the atrocity of the World Trade Center plane crashes.
Group claims responsibility
11sep01
A PALESTINIAN group has claimed responsibility for the New York World Trade Center attacks.
Abu Dhabi television reports it's received a call from the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine abroad claiming responsibility for crashing two planes into the World Trade Center buildings.
Qatar-based al-Jazeera television reports FBI sources say one of the two aircraft had been hijacked.
In another article they hint that a fourth plane was hijacked and heading towards Washington and jets have been scrambled to intercept the plane.
Interesting you should bring up cloning. I have a BS in Marine Biology and a BS in Information Systems (go figure). My focus of studies in Marine Bio was cephalopods (squids, octopuses, cuttlefish, and nautiluses). If I was going to continue with my education in Marine Bio I was going to try and get funding to clone the giant squid to actually see one alive. But since we know so little about it and its genetic makeup since the governments think mammals are far superior to clone than invertebrates we would not be able to find a suitable egg to inject the dna necessary. Scientists have attached underwater cameras to sperm whales, which has been known to dine on giant squids, to catch a glimpse of giant squids but to no avail. We need governments to realize the potential of the deep sea and give proper funding. I have corresponded with some marine biologists in Spain concerning deep sea cirrate octopods and they told me they receive funding to go in a submersible to photograph these creatures once every ten years. In other words, don't hold your breath to see video or photos of a live giant squid in your lifetime.
You nicely listed all the Napster clones but there are the pre-Napster software like IRC, newsgroups, Hotline, ftp sites, websites, and then we have CuteMX. You can even get in a big ol' chatroom and trade each others ICQ or AIM handle and transfer files that way. "The Man" might be after one avenue of trading software that increases revenue for the RIAA but He can't shut them all down. If you squash one voice, ten more will rise in its place.

Well, the company might want to start by toning down the habit of taking credit for every innovation
At least Al Gore took credit for the creation of the Internet.
With all these components for home audio systems you still can't beat the RioReceiver (http://www.riohome.com/products/receiver.htm)IMHO .
