    I like your post but take issue with your use of the word "experience" because we simply cannot know what cows experience. We only know that they respond to perceived danger. A cow *could* act precisely the way it does without actually "feeling" anything if its brain is too simple to "feel". In coming years, the neuro and cognitive scientists will probably be able to tell us which brain hardware facilitates conscious experience. Until they do, we can only guess. My guess is that chimps have the hardware, cows... who knows. This isn't to say that we should treat animals poorly because they're simple, just that we should focus on more solid reasons like the economic one you mentioned, or perhaps that treating animals well fosters compassion in humans.

    Pretending that wrong facts are forgivable "opinions" is a typical "Conservative" weasel trick for having it all ways, whenever it's convenient. This is certainly not limited to the right end of the spectrum. Don't forget that the Left gave us Social Constructionism.

    You've raised some interesting points about the concept of copyright in general, but your approach seems to me like it would destroy the commercial value of R&D. Are you really advocating the complete abolition of copyrights and patents?
