I keep trying to switch to Opera -- every couple of months or so I make a concerted effort. However, the lack of an easy-to-use extension system (and the presence of ads -- ads? I had forgotten the web had ads!) keep bringing me back to Firefox. I also can't seem to import certain certificates into Opera -- haven't really delved into the problem, so I don't know if there's a solution somewhere out tere.
More importantly, get me NoScript working on Opera, and I'm sold. (That's even more important that getting rid of ads!)
Though I'm sure your integrated graphics solution is just fine for your needs, you really can't use 3dmark06 as a reliable judge -- it's heavily skewed in favor of fast CPU's (and yours is very fast). Your score will show up as high as a much better graphic card will on a slower CPU, even though the slower CPU + faster graphic card will play games MUCH better than any IGP.
Try a 3dmark03 test -- you'll see that your scores will be quite a bit lower than comparable cards.
But, seriously -- who cares, if it's good enough for you it's fine. Your motherboard'll allow you to upgrade your graphics if you ever need to with its PCI-E slot, and you can find a great card for around $50, no matter what's out there.
Who knows, eh? Maybe a couple of centuries from now we'll be so advanced as a species that what you suggest will be so easy to construct that children will be doing it for science experiments in school.
Or maybe we'll all be scrabbling in the cold dirt for food while the hulking ruins of skyscrapers loom overhead. Either future is likely.
Please explain this to me if I get it wrong (I'm not an astrophysicist), but doesn't the moon orbit the earth in such a way that the same face of the moon is always facing the same side of the Earth, and a cable between the two would never really "break" (given that it was flexible enough to withstand the fluctuations of distance between the Earth and moon)?
You sound like you may have tried Ubuntu a while ago -- have you tried a recent version? I say because I feel your pain when it comes to wireless difficulties, but I honestly haven't had those problems in Ubuntu for about the past two versions.
And here's a tip -- if you get the latest version (8.04) and it works for you, keep it -- do NOT upgrade to the next version. 8.04 is a long-term release and will be supported for years.
PRECISELY. Now, Microsoft is perfectly poised to come out with the "real" advertising campaign with the pitch (now that they've got everyone's attention). I'm surprised more people don't see this.
Even the "budget" laptops on their list aren't as powerful as the Gateway P-7811FX, which leaves those laptops in the dust for a couple of hundred dollars less...
Seriously -- the Gateway has 9800M GTS graphics (compared to the puny 8400M models they listed in the "budget" section), comes with 4GB of RAM -- AND it costs a couple of hundred dollars less.
It also scales up nicely to high resolutions, and it performs well. I had it running at 2560x1024 across two monitors and it ran consistently at 50-60fps on a 3ghz P4 with a Radeon 9800 Pro.
Are you sure about that? You might want to check those figures -- I'm quite sure an old Radeon 9800 Pro doesn't go up that high in resolution, nor could it maintain that sort of framerate unless this game is beyond ancient.:\
...and get the ownership rights for the drive squared away before you make the trip to Mars -- the last time this happened, the resulting legal battles (between the UN and some free-love hippie with a strange fixation for water) lasted for years.
Well, you could, but then you're not doing something "exotic." Now excuse me while I go practice with my Tai Chi sword in my authentic Indian loincloth.
Just a small point -- you really don't consider someone a "car driver" if they can't drive in snow? This when the vast majority of humanity never drives in snow, but seems to get along just fine?:\

Ah, yes -- I have a few (not many) family members and older co-workers aware of "FoxFire," too.
Yes, that's what it's always called, an no, no matter how many times I correct them it's always "FoxFire."
"Crypto-marxist" is actually kinda cool sounding. Doesn't roll of the tongue as easily as something like "quasi-fascist," but it'll do.
Nobody's showing you anything. If you don't want to watch, don't go to the site or turn on the channel. Jeez.
...the tech community has been calling it "Windows 7" for awhile now.

Your example is incorrect -- I see very little of anything democracy-related at whitehouse.gov in its current form.

Ooooohhhh... I get it. D'oh!

Remember that Firestone lawsuit involving companies (in this instance, Ford) habitually underinflating cars' tires so they rode smoother?

well, damn. I stand corrected. I think I was seeing "2560x1024" (two 1280x1024 monitors) and thinking "2560x1600" (one 30-in monitor).
...stored on the interstellar star voyager I'm building, then.
Should be able to pack a few more women on-board that way.

Buddy, if they don't find a gift-giving error, trust me, they'll find something, eventually. That's how it works.
Don't you mean the Dire Straits video?
A Scanner Darkly.

CompUSA'ers? What's that now? Hard to find people who still shop there?

Fuck that.
