  1. Let me get this straight on Why Charles Stross Hates Star Trek · · Score: 5, Funny

Extremely nerdy hard-science nerdy nerd kings are bitching about old TV shows because they were using almost made-up theoretical science as a plot device to advance the lives and drama of fictional characters for our entertainment...

Here's an article for you: Slashdot member deathtopaulw hates hard science fiction writers because they have no concept of fun and their minds exist only to crunch numbers and dwell on what is and isn't possible in a finite and boring universe.

Look at that, nobody cares either.

  4. Oversucking on Build an $800 Gaming PC · · Score: 1

Overclocking no longer means what it did before. It's basically intel and the motherboard manufacturers graciously allowing you to use the actual power of the processor you paid for. That's not overclocking, its reversing underclocking. I laugh every time my idiot roommate claims his computer is overclocked, when he did nothing but say "do it" in a manager program in windows.

  5. Re:Fans are disconnected on Reviews: Star Trek · · Score: 2, Insightful

A real fan finally? My god I thought we'd died out. Nothing has irritated me more than the hype around this movie. What happened to the fans? Star Trek was basically always a short-story medium akin to The Twilight Zone. The plots of its episodes revolving around odd bleeding-edge hypotheses from theoretical physics, and stretches of human imagination. The themes included the nature of consciousness, musings on what could possibly exist beyond our limited scope, and thoughts on war now and in the future.

This is a summer action flick. This is worthless. This is not Star Trek. JJ Abrams is a moron on a level I have never observed before. Lost is not quality storytelling. Lost is an endless sea of twists and convolution. The man should never have been allowed near the franchise. What's more depressing though, is that everyone seems to have jumped ship... or never understood to begin with.

  6. Dude... on Reflections On the Less-Cool Effects of Filesharing · · Score: 3, Interesting

    Are you serious?
Let me tell you a little secret, bittorrent communities (especially TPB) are a horrible place to spread a concept. They are very loosely knit, with very few members or even users frequenting the forums and discussing things. No discussion means no recommendations from other users. No recommendations means your word is never spread. How is someone supposed to glean a band out of thin air, try every new music torrent that is posted? Filesharing is an extremely effective method in other areas though. I have been an active user on Soulseek for probably 5 years, and participate in several different music communities there. Nothing else in my life has influenced my taste more than the people I've met in the chatrooms there. And I'll just tell you right now that I'm about as far off the mainstream track as you can get.

    Just do it better.
