Another obvious patent then. Wanting to make ANY device smaller goes back to the beginning of invension itself.
We need a full fledged effort of some sort to invalidate patents. Maybe even a legal foundation of some sort. It's in the interest (at least for now) for every patent to be summarily accepted so you know the corporate controlled government will never fix it.
This argument gets repeated ad nauseum, but economics says that the market determines the price. If they pass these costs off the consumen en masse then they don't sell devices.
I am really confused here... why this is being talked about like it is ancient tech that's been forgotten?
I used to be the admin of an outdoor recreational center and I've personally used microwave bridges a lot for these sorts of applications. It's very common in rural areas to do use microwave or open spectrum in areas where you can't just dig and put down fiber or cable. It doesn't surprise me in the least that it's being used in applications like this.
Free market my ass. This is corporatism. Allow the corporation to do what they want at all costs. There is no reason that the government should NOT be allowed to designate that funds it spends benefits its citizens over other people. EVERY OTHER country in the world does this.
Let the nitpicking and the corporate hothead flaming begin below....
I think we can agree that RMS can be childish. I was in the room when he broke into the room yelling at OSCON's Openoffice announcement. That's the way he is.
Even though I don't and never will agree with him 100% (that's worship) I am happy he's there, especially when there are thousands of people on the other side in IT yelling through coporate bullhorns constantly. His big mouth is a counterweight. If the braindead microsoft zombies that control IT in corporate america have heard of anyone's views it is probably his. I am not sure if Ubuntu is trying to become yet another Open Source company that is canibalized and eaten from inside by today's vile corporate belief system, but at least RMS let us know it COULD happen...
(I guess to clairfy that I draw a major distinction between "corporate" and small business. I care about the latter as that is the group that is really benefiting the country. I don't have a BS definition like "small business means under 2000 employees" either)
Our current government is so screwed up, allied with corporate interests to the point there is little difference between corporate and government interests, that doing something for the common good is almost unthinkable.
Plus, if you really want stimulus, getting fibre out to rural areas is one of the best projects you can think of. You can't have a business without good network access anymore.
Of course, we've got the worst of the worst of our population making it to all our leadership positions. They are incapable of understanding these facts anre they are incapable of listening to people that are smarter than they are.
Good riddance to this patent. It's yet another example of how the patent office will let just about anything slip by right now.
If putting ONE widget/idea/whatever on a machine is patentable, then putting multiple "things" on a machine is obvious. "Multitouch" is the same a "touch."
Another one: If putting wifi on a computer is patentable, then putting wifi on any computer-like device (tablets, phones, anything using a processor) is obvious.
The trolls are maybe less than half the problem. Letting these companies patent the kitchen sink just because there is a trivial change is a huge part. And they won't pay of examiners that actually know what they are doing because it means a pointy headed administrator will have to be paid less to do it.
The real idiocy here was the fact that there was some idiot executive that insisted that the wheel be reinvented. They let hatered of Google get in the way of day-to-day business here. They could of made sure the google maps were easy to use on their devices and spent the effort coming up with something that Android doesn't do instead.
They should be firing the person that a "mapping team" was a good idea to begin with.
I think with Pink Floyd it was a valid argument. In the 70s they mostly played entire albums as cycles at their concerts, and as I've wrote several times here they didn't release singles except in the U.S.
Pink Floyd made the same argument and they actually stopped releasing singles in the U.K. I wrote about this above... in terms of AC/DC using it it's just an excuse.
Agnes' argument about albums is demonstrably false. Here's why...
The era after Pink Floyd's two first albums they made the same argument about listening to the album as an entire piece. Because of this they didn't release singles (at least not in the UK. There are some late 60s early 70s singles in the U.S., but this their secondary market).
AC/DC always released singles. If they really cared about it they would of stopped like Pink Floyd did.
I put "IP" in quotes. This is because these items are not property. It abuses the word property. Only one person can own a piece of property and billions can have the same idea. It's the wrong term to use for these items. There needs another term coined.
The whole thing needs to be rethought. Throw out the term "Intellectual Property" and go back to the constitutional reasoning behind why it was created in the first place.
This wasn't really an agenda item on the table in this election.
Both candidates, despite all the b.s. about "socialism," were clearly corporatists. There wasn't going to be any discussion about patents and "I.P.", lobbying, campaign finance, or anything that the biggest corporations have no disagreements one.
They are a CORPORATION formed specifically to sue. I don't think the ownership is relevant.
Who cares. This should be an illegal corporate structure no matter who owns them.

I was just thinking the onboard computer is probably using a version of Windows Mobile...

we saw it once. You can stop posting it.

A positive job for lawyers (as opposed to the 99.9% negative efforts going on) should be welcomed.
Third world and corrupt countries.

When has Time Warner ever been correct about something relating to the Internet?
Seriously...I can't think of one time.
I wish I had a mod point.

It's more startling that these corporate worshiper types see this as such a major revalation.

How about a new sequel to Rez?
I know there is an HD version on one of the other consoles, but it's not enought of a reason to buy one of the sony or MS monstrosities.

There is no other comment possible here. This is derp.
Are you kidding? They're the elite! We're talking 100k fine, tops!
