I know this has been rated Troll by the slashdot gods, but I just have to say how COOL bird-based satellite antennas would be. All that needs to be done is to figure out the mini-motor system to keep them pointed in the right direction.
You can't control what the bees do. Cross pollination happens. The Monsanto genes have been found even in countries that have outlawed its use.
On top of this there have been fairly predatory actions by the "seed police" P.I.s. They look closely at *anyone* that does seed cleaning, and if there is any cross pollination they sue. There are even allegations they encouraged cross pollination so they could sue non-customers.
Yes... this is essentially what has been happening. Plus as part of the agreement that small farmers MUST sign they can not keep any of of their crop to be "cleaned" and used for next year's seed. The agreement essentially makes it that the plant is owned by Monsanto. Even if farmers steer clear of Monsanto seed, if there is any cross pollination and the the gene that Monsanto "owns" gets to be part of the crop then the seed police come knockin'.
If you are interested in more information about this and the other evil that Monsanto has been a part of, take a look at the movie and the book "The World According to Monsanto" by Marie-Monique Robin. She tries to be fair, but be aware it's very anti-Monstanto since they used the trick of never talking to her about anything.
Of course he is all for cutting spending as long as it doesn't affect his corporate contributors. There isn't one Republican saying we need to cut the fat in the defense department even when they make all other federal spending look like change for the coke machine.
That's because AIDS work is the only positive accomplishment that Bush can point to. You can give him that one.
However, cynics looking into his AIDS accomplishments also point rightfully to the fact that his initiatives REQUIRED that AIDS drugs be bought through American sources. This wasn't exactly fleecing these foreign countries (as the prices were actually fair when compared to the prices of the same drugs in the states), but it was another windfall for his corporate buddies. It also prevented these countries from saying to hell with drug patents and setting up their own drug manufacturing (which would have produced the drugs at costs even more reasonable for their poor population).
The *AAs at this point are simply in a quixotic battle against the rules of the real world. They might as well lobby for changes in the laws of physics... it falls into the same category. Trouble is most of our legislators are oldsters, people easily bought, or people who can't understand any of the basics of the world we live in.
Every attempt to curb the "piracy" will fail because this is simply the digital laws of information work. We can take huge step backwards into the world where every piece of information is tied to a piece of paper or a piece of rock, we can try to legislate it out of existence, or we can accept it and make a world that the artists (not corporate middlemen) can make a living.
The real loss on "piracy" comes from the copies made to CD-R and DVD-R that are regularly sold on the Asian street markets. The loss is multi-million each year and it is a *real* loss as compared to the bogus loss numbers we are subjected to in the media over file sharing.
However no one ever goes after THAT problem. Why? It would take actual diplomatic work.
They are/were only a "search engine" to anyone that only plays lose with terminology.
Yahoo became irrelevant shortly after the amount of web content exploded. They simply bet too low and took the wrong strategy. There is no amount of corporate ballyhoo that will bring them back to relevancy.
Thanks for starting off with that. You see I didn't have to read the rest of your message because at that point your opinion became meaningless. It saved me some time.
No... Chinese gov't protects the Chinese and the US gov't protects the top 1% of shareholders who import the Chinese crap. Don't start thinking that the government protects US IP or US people in general. They don't do that.
The problem with "intelectual property" is shown in the term itself!
Ideas and intelectual ideas aren't "property." When they are "stolen" only a copy is taken, not the actual idea. It's not like if a television is stollen from your house and you no longer have it. The reason we have "intelectual property" is because corporations want to horde ideas and milk every dollar they can out of them.
We're in a tough place in this country. Because of the way money is working our laws are being used for the good of corporations and not for the common good. Money isn't the only type of capitol we need in the U.S. Sometimes if would be better for all of us if the ideas are shared instead of a corporation being able to milk every dime out of an idea. The return for the society could be a thousand times greater since every new idea that is tought up depends on an old idea as its base. When you put too many ideas off limits all of a sudden you can't come up with anything without breaking someone's "IP." The situation with Android and software patents is exibit A.
Why isn't Slashdot participating? Didn't they care about an open internet at one point??

I know this will blow your mind, but maybe left vs. right isn't the appropriate fight here. Most of us Americans are hung up on it, but maybe it doesn't always apply as much as you would think it would.
The second axis of the political world is corpratism, and corporatism is heavily represnted in both parties. Look at the names of the people pushing this bill. It has nothing to do with party. It had to do with the hugest corporate consitutencies pushing dollars into politician's pockets.
The corporation patches on their suits may be slightly different, but BOTH parties are corporatist. Stop thinking everything is left vs. right or pretty soon there won't be any debate because there will be ONE group in charge and you'll be against the wall if you say you don't like it.
Ask what the "certain components" are or wat patents are violated and you get no answer.
And I personally don't considering "patent every little idea that has been in OSes forever" good R&D, though it may be proftiable since you apparently can extort money from others because of it.
Yeah.. thanks to the Obama admin. patents have been "fixed." Instead they just approve them faster than ever. This type of idiocy is just going to accelerate.
I.P. law was not intended to become a weapon, it was intended for the fair sharing of NEW ideas. It's become just another corporate law paradise with everyone else left out in the cold as usual.
I agree with every part of this, but the problem is the same as in every area of commerce today: the execs make the decisions and the execs are some of the most arrogant and boneheaded people out there. There is no meritocracy there and the Peter principle is the guiding force.
They will continue to act on their beliefs and not listen to the real people that matter, the people paying the money, until it is too late.

It's dying? Has netcraft confirmed that?
No... she is just learning from HP history and emulating the clear-thinking leadership skills of Carley Fiorina!

No they aren't sterile. The terminator gene got SO MUCH bad press that they never were able to use it.

He can still type like crazy. He's on Twitter all the time and he can still write for his newspaper... so he isn't gone yet.

This is crap. The idea of questions like this is to see if the candidate will subscribe to the cult-like mentality of a lot of these corporations.
My personal goal is to work to live, not live to work.

Time to move to XBMC.
However, if they actually DO update Boxee for Linux it will be the first time in a long time. They haven't even bothered for a while.
How come every I.T. manager turns into a fascist?
If labor is 2% of the cost then they are doing pretty good when you compared to other areas.
Consider that labor gets less than a dollar for a pair of $150 Air jordans. It just to be less than $.50, but who knows that those stats are now.
Your comment fails because...
It calls for the use of common sense.

Yes. We had an expanding economy between WWII and 1975 and people were actually getting paid to do the work.
