I think it means a missed meal because they couldn't afford such a meal. Vs. skipping a meal because you are trying to diet, or was just really busy and you forgot to eat. Normally these categories are used to help classify a group, vs an actual health definition of hunger.
While I expect you are Fox News level trolling. However if you are living in poverty people may choose different actions to do with their their food stamps and welfare money... Also they may have different levels of support from family and their community. You can buy yourself a $10 steak once a week, however you may choose to not get yourself something else or buy some cheaper versions of products to make up the difference. People in poverty should still be allowed a degree of freedom and dignity, to make choices on what they can do with their life, even with our hard earned money that we pay in taxes. We should make sure people in poverty have decent quality of life enough so they can get past normal survival and enough to thrive and have a path to get out of poverty.
Still, they are playing a dangerous game doing that. Argue your point to the best of your ability... If you loose the argument do you best to make sure it succeeds anyways.
Well these so called power lines use to be called telphone-lines. The idea the information needed to be sent across a wire (without conflicting with other sources) as a primary way to send data. Today data is widely sent wireless. For the future, you can expect infrastructure less power. Such as batteries that can operate for a long time, or are solar charged in the day. Where lights and other infrastructure devices can be easily moved and upgraded cheaply and easily as the demand of a city changes.
We have the technology for this, just not the political will, mainly because why bother because our wired lights work fine. But if you are going to show the future, you try to have it a little cleaner and efficient. Wires spread across the streets is something that could go away.
It is, if you browse the Nostalgia Channels on the internet the Nintendo 64 is right there with those guys. The original Wii is actually getting there too. Nostalgia Device = Device played with (or wish they had) as a kid (Between ages 5-15) when you are 25 years or older.
Paraphrasing Douglas Adams: Technology created before you were born to a young kid has always been there and are part of the natural world Technology created from school age - mid 20s are exciting inventions where you may get a career in. Technology created after that is an Abomination to Nature and society.
So those things that were exciting and sparked your interest as a kid, help bring a sense of nostalgia because they were new and exciting. To date myself. Video Games were always there but when they went from 8bit-16bit bringing 256 colors display was like crossing a threshold into the future. Where Kids today just see all of them as Blocky 2d graphics, and may ask why is this King Gram guys face yellow or pink not skin toned, and when he goes up the screen he becomes a giant and doesn't scale down to size. However I was a bit older when that technology came into place, so it was less exciting then seeing King Gram from a 16 color sprite to a full 256 color with painted backgrounds.
The issue I have is Nintendo seems to kill off its online services. I can't play Mario Kart Wii online anymore, Mario Kart 8 still works on the Wii U but for how much longer? The Wii-U had stopped it community thing that I never used. But it still gone. I am not a big gamer myself so, the XBox or the Playstation doesn't really appeal with me. But Nintendo's cheaper units don't seem to want to handle long term support.
In general if you build a system Spec per Spec to try to match the Apple Product you are going to pay about the same price +/- $100. However the real question is how many of these features you are matching do you really need or want. Where you can build a system at less of the specs and save a good amount of money.
Apple isn't over charging for their products, but they are not offering a lot of choices that would meet our needs per price.
This is a very old argument. However it still holds up.
I would think power lines are a good sign of the time the story is based. Where it is to represent the present. The near future normally would be wireless urban setting. The past 100 years or so, we wouldn't have power-lines, as most lights were still gas in an urban environment.
Out of all other things, they can be drown without much animation.
Also power lines don't date quickly. So a scene with with them will look as reliant for 2017 as it would for 1967 so such shows wont date as quickly.
Have you been living under a rock. We live in a world where everything is untrue, except for the person who is stating it to be absolute truth, but we don't believe them because everything is untrue. Not explaining thing in absolutes shows weakness.
I can see just as much anger going if it was an option. I have recently upgraded my 6. Mostly due to the fact that its battery wasn't lasting a day, the phone would drop to 50% at the end of the day if I didn't do anything with it. If I used it for any tasks I may be able to get it past 5:00 PM. Being that it is an older model of phone it wasn't worth it for me to fix the battery, so I upgraded. While there is a low power mode feature in iOS which reduces functions, it was nice to know the phone was designed to extend its useful life automatically, having a feature which can be turned off or on. Firstly may take more power away from the device that is suffering, due to often the power save features are on the chip level vs in the software. Secondly Apples brand image isn't about giving people tons of options to tinker with, which the geek in me would love to play with, however I often find myself tinkering to a point of non-usability. Apple goes with the motto does what it suppose to do and do it well. Having an option to disable this could be problematic, with people with older phones thinking they need that 10% speed while having their phones last hours.
As a kid bullied in school. If I didn't feel going to the school officials for help, I wouldn't want to go to my parents either. Still if you are being bullied what are your parents going to do, other than being bullied as a Mommas boy. The kid is quite when they come home not because they had lost courage, but they feel that they need to be tough enough to deal with it themselves.
Also what type of emergency is so important that your kid needs to know right away? I can see the kid calling you for an emergency because you have the power and authority do something about it. But if you have an emergency the last person I would call is my kid, because there isn't much they can do about it. Leave a message to the Admin office and they will call you to the office either right away if is that important, or between classes if it isn't.
For us old guys like me. Parents often gave kids pagers so they can contact them in case of emergency, and the kid during his free time would use the payphone to call them back to figure out what is up. While some schools put a ban on them, because they used them for drug dealing during school hours, for the most part they were a tool for the parents to keep tabs on their kids. Kids during this time may brag if the pager actually had messaging on it, however just having a pager was a status symbol, that your family was wealthy enough for such a device. As a few years went on and cell phones became small and cheap. Parents gave kids Cell phones for the same reason, to keep track of their kids. So if schools banned them then they have an uncomfortable PTA Meetings. So kids had phones and they used them to their full potential. Unlike pagers, there were different quality and styles of phones, so they type of phone became the status symbol in school. Then with this nonsense there is the stupid argument that their phone is their freedom of expression, like the argument against school uniforms.
I actually like the idea of school uniforms and banning cell phone for the same reason. Not about the distraction of the technology but because they are tools to show status, and which kids will use such status to oppress and isolate other kids where their only issue is that their parents cannot afford such luxuries.
From what I see, they are perfectly fine doing the tech work, they are just not up to the chest thumping common with the "brogrammers". Here are the specs, the follow the specs and give them what is requested, the Brogrammer will get the general idea of the spec, code what they want, and if it doesn't meet their needs they will use it anyways because they don't want to wast time on a rewrite, and the brogrammer will tout how cool they are for getting their innovative code in the mainline.
The spec just needed basic CRUD design, not an AI sub routine, so they do what is needed. Unfortunately this could be interpreted as avoiding new technology, not trying to be innovative or technical, or just not being ambitious in their career.
They can code just as well as any guy, but they are not trying to Alpha Male the next guy, so they won't go do over the top methods to get the same job done.
I bet it would be easier for Google to come up with a tool to help us Root our Android OS? It seems that Google has been getting very vindictive lately (more then usual) to its competitors. Normally companies have a degree of compartmentalization where it can work with and compete with the same company at the same time. Google seems to be taking competition across the board so units that are not in competition are not playing fairly with the other company.
You can buy a pack of gum... However after a year it would be the cost of a nice lunch. After an other year a fancy dinner, Then a oversea trip. The growth rate it too fast be buy stuff with it.
However if you were the guy who bought a Pizza for 20 bitcoins a decade ago, I expect you are kicking yourself.
As I have stated over and over... BitCoin prices are rising too fast for anyone to intelligently trade them for a goods and services. It isn't a case like other commodes like Gold, if you traded something for a goods and service then the price went up 5% over a year, you would be kicking yourself so hard, sure the value of your purchase + inflation is less then what selling gold would had been, but only by a small amount, and the value of such purchase may be worth it. However if after a year it goes up 1000% you better have bought something meaningful to you.
I don't think Society has an end goal. Or at least one that we can all agree on. Money isn't everything... However it helps a lot of things.
My definition of a society end goal would probably be where everyone is working a fulfilling and successful life, to the best of their abilities. Having people out of work, or working dumb jobs that a computer can do isn't leading to that direction. To get that we may not need money, but the human animal will need incentives to get off their butt to help with society vs defaulting to its instinctive action of just working for itself.
What politics. Efficiencies have reliability shown to have a net increase of the economy. You can pump your own gas in New England. That is a New Jersey law. New Jersey isn't part of New England. Facts man! Facts! if you are going to troll at least get your facts right.
You grossly misunderstand the size of a nuclear explosion. The largest bombs can effect an area of a 30 mile radius. Which would devastate a city and 8 other nearby cities and towns. (being most towns are 10 miles apart) This is huge... However not enough to kill off a subcontinent.
Who would had thunked it! People who specialized in an area of study are able to understand how the economy really works. So when they say efficiency positively affect the economy. They are not blowing smoke or just pandering to some political party. What will we find out next? Increase workforce with higher salaries creates more customers? And kicking out people from your country will have a long term negative affect. But some guy who happens to have a lot of money told us differently. Just because someone is wealthy or in a powerful position doesn’t mean they know what is going on. Economists study this stuff for a reason and should be listened too.
How is this any more communist then wealthy republicans donating to their causes? Actually the republicans donate more money then democrats do, often to help the poor and charities. It’s their money they can use it to buy a solid gold toilet or they can buy land to try to stop the government from spending money on a symbol to say we don’t like brown people.
I think it means a missed meal because they couldn't afford such a meal. Vs. skipping a meal because you are trying to diet, or was just really busy and you forgot to eat. Normally these categories are used to help classify a group, vs an actual health definition of hunger.
Give Lister some slack, he posted it early in the morning. Probably with his phone, half asleep. So grogginess+auto correct = odd words.
