Well lies are not the opposite of truth. But truth is the opposite of lies. Lies are intentional falsification of the truth. But you can stick to believing non truths as truths and not really know that we are spreading falsehoods thus we are not lieing.
Unfortunately there is little or no effort in trying to actually reduce the laws out there, because there is so much revenue is finding Law Breakers. For example those No-Turn on Red Signs places right in the spot where if you are stopped at a red light the sign is parallel to your view so you cannot see the sign, so you may just turn on red, vs. putting them next to the red light, like they do in areas where there is actually a major safety concern for turning on red.
When you go on the impression that you are good driver then you make the mistake of being over confident with yourself, and that gets you into trouble.
While I never gotten in a major accidents I realized a few times I was lucky that the other guy was watching out. Sometimes I may have cut someone off because I didn't properly look in all my mirrors carefully. Or ran a Red Light not because I tried to but because I was distracted. We all make mistakes, even if you are a good driver there is that small time that you do make a mistake, and you end up as that stupid driver to someone else. If you made a mistake, you should learn from it and try to avoid that again.
Not as much as you are willing to think. The scientific excels under that type of thinking. However the scientist do not always follow this, even when they thinking they are... The problem is we get emotionally involved in our ideas, and we often find a clique that gives us the scary group think. And are willing to takes an others persons view not because of evidence but because of the reputation that person had.
Democracy isn't about getting the Best Leaders it is about avoiding getting the worst ones. If you look at the republican primaries. You see a lot of the really scary candidates lost out quickly. And we then go try to elect the least of the two evils. That is why those social issues are big deals, during the election, it isn't as much of an issue that our leader had an affair, but often (not always) people who have affairs often do so because they get corrupted with power, and we really don't want that for a president. If they are shown to flip-flop then you will see that they are trying to say or do anything just for power. Or if they go one some rant and just make too many stupid comments then you see that they just are not cut out for the job.
I would be very worried if we got the best leaders all the time. Lets look at FDR a Hero with Democrats, but if you look in detail he did a lot of really bad things for the "greater good" Asian Americans Concentration Camps, Trying to Stack the Supreme Court, Breaking the serving 4 terms. Much of his new deal reformed failed... But he was a strong leader, people liked and respected him. He can get things done... But an effective government is a scary government and having a period of mostly mediocre leaders is a good thing.
I have a condition where my eyes cannot easily follow straight lines. This makes reading books very hard for me. While I am reading a screen I tend to highlight the line that I am reading otherwise my eyes will drift to words in the next line and adding confusion, causing me to reread the line over again.
I prefer to read off of a screen for it makes it easier for me to follow the line... First I don't have the curve from the bend in the paper throwing me off, allowing me to use a pen/ruler to keep my line pointed, most readers allow me to highlight the text line that I am reading. Also most screens you still can see the Pixels outlines on your screen that makes following straight lines easier.
Before I was diagnoses with that condition I was figured to have problems with actually learning to reading comprehension, they figured that I was just being lazy while I tried to read a book. But I got tired of reading the same line over and over again, and being disciplined for following the text with my finger. So reading became a major chore and I really never gained the joy of reading. But my reading comprehension was much better when I had books with a big fonts and a lot of white spaces, but the smaller fonts and more dense the page the harder I had reading.
I am willing to expect that people who are use to reading paper books and can do so, may find the extra technology distracting but if you are use to it, you know to ignore the feeling to click on something else. Sure the extra features on tables can distract us, but that is probably more due to the reading material being more boring then the other options. If the story is really engaging then you want to read the story and not watch a You Tube video.
For the most part I say leave your work laptop a work laptop. If you deviate from its original use and something goes wrong you will be first to blame. Also first for a whipe and clean install, so if you any personal stuff it could be wiped at any time.
Next reason to not use your work laptop for personal reasons is for legal reasons, if there is a legal issue with your company you may need to give your PC as evidence. Your personal stuff may incrimate you. If you are very careful and encrypt or secure delete then it may look like you are tampering with evidence.
The work PC is the property of your company you should leave it as such.
The problem is that there are a lot of bad cops out there. If you ore someone is getting arrested fore something they should have a record of it for themselves. There are too many cases when something goes wrong the police tape unexpectally cuts out.
Even as a SysOp in the early 90's Internet wasn't that big deal, and I doubt that that TV would take off? 1. TV was for watching TV... If you were geeky enough you would plug in an Atari or a TI-99, or a video game system for the kids, but nothing much for the adults. 2. 1 phone line was common. Average Joe had 1 telephone line. Back in the early 80's most of the phones were still pulse (you need to dial a phone). Your local calls was within 50 miles of your home, outside was long distance even if it was part of your area code. 3. People were on the schedule. Go to work at 8:00 come back at 5:00 eat dinner watch the 6:00 news, and an episode of Prime time TV. Most of these features wasn't really needed as people were use to thinking in terms of that life style. 4. Too controlled, Internet shopping got popular with eBay were they could find really good deals on products. I remember back in 1997 someone getting a 6gig drive for $1 and $10 shipping and handling. 5. The secret power of Porn... We all want it even if we don't admit it. Closed systems vs. an open system with free porn allowed for the popularity.
How dare we live in a world that allows for ambiguity, and complex relationships. We need to live in a world where there are well defined good guys and bad guys. Where the good guys are always good and the bad guys are always bad.
People don't wake up in the morning plotting on how to make the world a bad and miserable place to live. For the most part most people are thinking about themselves, how can I get more out of life, do I need more money how can I get more money, do I want to be better admired how can I do that. Not that they don't think of other people too but normally think of themselves, this is natural because we know ourselves the best.
Now people join groups of like minded individuals to help empower themselves by giving more numbers to their cause as well as a way to share resources.
Now here is where we get into problems. Groups tend to have different approaches and motivations for what they are doing, they have different points that they feel pain and points that give them pleasure. Sometimes these points are in conflict with each other. Eg. Group R wants less government control, as they feel pain from government regulations and pleasure from being able to work to move themselves across the social ladders. Not Group D wants more Government Control, as they feel pain from mistakes made outside of government scope, and pleasure from an orderly system.
Now neither approach is evil, however extremism on both sides can lead to more trouble then they worth. But the ideas are always in conflict with each other thus creating tension across the groups. But Group R and Group D do also have similarities that they can agree on as they both feel pain when a foreign power aggression effects their self interests, they both feel pleasure when the general population is working and employed.
Unless you have been brainwashed by a political party, most individual people have their own opinions which may differ from the groups ideals, but they may still belong to the group as it matches many or at least their highest rated ideals.
Never code your data in a list of max days for each month... You'll just get burned every time. To find find the Max Day for each month you subtract 1 day from from the first of the next month for your given year. And let the OS clock deal and more embedded Date objects deal with it.
Well not too surprising or really going backwards. When the iPhone came out it was back to the screen resolution that Windows 3.1 or the old Mac OS ran on.
I try new things just so I can Hate how different they are. Because I tried it first I can be first to say I hate it therefore I am better then the rest of you.
Not that much of a Nightmare, at least with modern Data classes. You take the month and year you are looking at. date(Year, Month+1, Day = 1) - 1 day. Then you get the last day of every month. Leap Year isn't the nightmare, The nightmare is the normal Month system with different days each month.
Perhaps the new leader is a bit more sane, and actually looking for the welfare of his country. We have a younger leader who never really really felt the strong hand of the cold war or the revolution. He probably has a more world view that in order for his country to succeed that it needs to dig it self out of its own mess.
Now you are making a common mistake of assuming of intelligent design, you may not actually subscribe to that thought but you are not really following evolutionary theory when you assume that an advantage needs a trade off.
The intelligent design (NOT CREATIONISM) approach assumes that there is a plan or a benefit to every evolutionary change. While evolution is more based on pure random events where a random mutation can either give the life form an advantage where it could have offspring, or it could hinder it. Even if it hinders the chances if they still have offspring then it passes to the next generation. Or if you have a mutation that is superior to the others and you don't have offspring then that mutation will not pass on. But there isn't a trade off going on it is just random chance.
There could be someone who is Smarter then you, Stronger then you, more Attractive, more charisma... Basically Better then you in every way... As insulting as that sounds it is possible. It is not like D&D or Video Games where there is a need to be balanced. Sometimes things have an advantage without a trade off.
I think it is because Kodak was an American Company. Centered in Rochester NY close by to a lot of popular collages. So when such a company goes out of business it is sad for the community that was built around it.
More to the point their Marketing failed to convince their consumers that Kodak was changing with the market.
Right when Digital cameras were getting popular, Kodak should have gone all out in their marketing trying to sell their own Digital Cameras and far more effort on their Printers and such.
The problem with their Printer Campaign was they were trying to sell that they have lower Total Cost of Ownership... It is really tough to sell Lower Total Cost of Ownership, They should have pushed High Quality Images... And TCO is one of the benefits that customers will get later.
How many of you who actually watched the movie tried to keep yourself from laughing at the scene, in fear that there may be some unstable guy behind you who actually thought they just watched a good movie.
The Idea of Anonymous: If there is something that you don't like, take down their web page... That will show them.
Lets bring awareness of stuff that everyone already knows about. If you are not part of the problem and you are not part of the solution... Lets make a brand new problem, that way you are involved. That is the Idea of Anonymous.
Sure, but it is activist Math. You give those numbers in the most scary way possible. Everyone does it, if you want to scare people into doing what you want, you make sure you back yourself up with numbers that looks so scary that no one will ever check.
But I think the article was between 1/3 and 1/2 they need to keep vague so get more scared because it could be closer to 1/2 and not say 5/12
Well normally people with a Low Metabolism are the ones who tend to be more overweight as their body doesn't burn calories as quickly.
But people with a Low Metabolism tend to be less active in general. I knew a girl with a very High Motabolism, she needed to eat all the time if she didn't or skipped a snack she would be in pain. And she was quite thin, while myself I have to watch everything I eat if I eat too much I will gain weight.
But also this girl would be far more hyper then I would be. Almost everything she needed to do it had to be done quick, it was like I was on Slow Motion and She was on Fast Forward.
So people do have a different natural tenancy towards activity levels. While diet is part of the problem, but it also more to the fact there is less need for a kid to be active when they don't want to be so. In today world of Stranger Danger and Zero Tolerance Hyper safety rules kids are not allowed to be active except for during regulated non-fun events.
To keep our kids safe we get them use to living in a situation where going out isn't fun, and they cannot visit their friends unless it is in a well regulated environment. Exercise needs to happen during particular hours during the day and with the prescribed activities often with people who you dislike.
Why yes, you can summarize most stories to basic plot elements. However Avatar did it in a way that was much too predictable.
What made "Classic" Pixar Movies so much more interesting then their Disney counterparts wasn't as much the CGI but the details in the general story plot.
For Pixar their normal trend is making the main characters, unlikable at first, they are usually very flawed you really are not sure if they are going to end up being the good guys or the bad guys. If they turn out to be a Bad Guy they often have a reason to be as such. Then the interesting part of the movie is seeing how the characters change and grow over time and often they will end up in a more of an unexpected growth.
For Avatar, there wasn't that much growth, it was more of yea I picked which side I want to be on.
There are plenty of keyboards available for the iPad. Big ones small one rubber ones, plastic.... Just a google search away.
Well lies are not the opposite of truth. But truth is the opposite of lies.
Lies are intentional falsification of the truth. But you can stick to believing non truths as truths and not really know that we are spreading falsehoods thus we are not lieing.
Studies show that new laws improve state revenue.
