  1. Re:Horrible! on Using Classical Music As a Form of Social Control · · Score: 3, Interesting

Kids in general hate classical music.

As they don't have the listening skills yet to enjoy it.

Non-Orchestral music which is popular today is rather light in texture. Vocal, Guitar(s), Bass, Drums vs. a full orchestra Violins, Violas, Cellos, Contrabass (for a string orchestra popular during the classical period) expenanded to Trumpits, Tubas, French Hones, Trombones, Flues, Oboes, Clarinetist, Timpani, and a variety of percussion having a much layered and complex set of works.

The "Rock Band" Layout was based on the Minimalistic Movement of having just enough to do what you need. In many ways making music easier to listen to as there isn't much going on and you can focus on the lyrics, orchestral layout focuses on the music and you can have really stupid lyrics and the song will still be good.

  7. Re:Wrong. on Write Bits Directly Onto a Hard Drive Platter? · · Score: 3, Interesting

It would be nice to know why the poster thinks this feature is important. The only things I can think of is the following...
He is using parts from a hard drive to make a robot. So he wants to control a Robot using the hard logic board, to control the mechanisms.
He is using the high speed nature of the drive and the noses it makes to make a speaker out of it by moving writing bits in the right spot.
Trying to make a full real-time application.
Researching better algorithms for drive storage.
Attempting to make some sort of digital watermark on the drive.

The first two are just silly hacks which would get geek creds but not overly useful.

The Real Time System You probably need more then off the shelf and free software to do the trick

And the Research you could probably program a simulator to simulate the results.

The Watermark idea will work until someone fills up the drive.

So I would agree with the poster unless you come up with a good reason where there isn't an other approach I don't see the need to do this.

The people that you mention tend to be real jerks and very unlikable.

Extreme Liberals, everything you do is bad, It will hurt the environment, or is the cause for all the problems in the world. In general a real downer after a while. Besides if you are that politically motivated it is hard for you to shut up and except the general culture, when you are part of the general culture you tend to reap its benefits. "The Man" isn't trying to hold you back, however if you fight with him he will not help you out much.

Atheist, A lot of them don't seem to respect other peoples beliefs, you meat a nice girl and tell her she is a fool that she believes in a god that will be a big turn off. Simple fact There is no solid proof for or against God... So arguing with someone who does believe in God will just create more conflict. Besides Religions are a group where people can join as a sub-comunity and gain benefits from it

Male Sexual Exclusivity lined to IQ... You mean being an Elitist bastard... For one IQ isn't the only way to measure smarts and two it in itself is a measurement of potential but not of actual use. I have seen a lot of really stupid people with High IQs. Espectily after they learn they have a High IQ because they think if they have a High IQ they know more then everyone else and is superior. So they end up being a jerk. Leaving the people with lower IQs who are nicer and are willing to listen to people who know more about stuff then them on different topics makes them far more approachable.

It isn't the fact that they belong to these groups but the fact that they are unable to adapt to cultural norms, thus not reproducing.

Give them a Drop down of available zip codes to choose from.Based on Country, City, State (the more you choose the more narrow the search becomes)

Don't let them off the field unless they have a valid zip code, or auto fill the remaining letters as a type ahead field until they are finished.

Keep required fields in yellow until they meet the validation rules then make them green.

If you change the code then change the state, City to match up...

There are a bunch of different ways to handle error cases. The problem with many Error messages is they go on the idea that the User is Stupid so its goal of the UI is to tell them what they did was wrong. While a Good UI shows them/forces them to do what is right.

I also fail to see where this Millions of Lines of code comes from. I haven't ever see anything that has a million of lines of code. I have seen groups of software when packaged together will be millions of lines of code. Even the Linux Kernel it is broken into a bunch of smaller programs, so a fix doesn't effect millions lines of code.

When some one says it is millions of lines of code it is them bragging how much effort they put into making the application deployable... However if there is a bug that needs to be fixed it is normally part of a module where you need to test to make sure that it doesn't effect around 5000 lines of code.
