So Microsoft is Anti-Envriomentalist because it doesn't want to add public transit that most people wont use. Being a real environmentalist is being a realist too. Every choice you take has a trade off, Trying to push too green may cause a bridge that is not efficiently used. Thus creating a negative impact. Being green just to wave a flag to say Look I am green I am a good human being is often the worst thing you can do as you are not evaluating what you are doing and what tradeoffs you have.
Schools are overpopulated with kids from poor/undereducated families. These kids cause trouble. Schools find ways to kick out these students to bring their "Numbers" Up. Kicked out students are deemed as failures grow up in a few years stuck in the same area. Live in poverity have kids. Kids go to school...
Schools need to find reasons to keep them in schools not find reasons to kick them out. It doesn't matter if they are not model students or model human being. They should have a chance to succeed inspite of themselfs.
Well we have... NX-01 (I am sure some alian has gotten into their computer) NCC-1701 (I am sure some alian has gotten into their computer) NCC-1701-A (Hacked by a Rogue Volcan) NCC-1701-B NCC-1701-C NCC-1701-D (Hacked by the Borg) NCC-1701-E (Hacked by the Borg) So I have 71.5% However I haven't read any expanded universe stuff...
If you think that the very things that have been removed (housing and thieving would be two good topics) caused WoW to become the most popular MMO, why is that?
Games are not fun if you have to play them. Housing and Looting creates a world that is too immersive and requires you to play almost all the time. Housing creates property that you need to protect as well as a place for people target you. Looting may be fun for the looter but not for the person who has been looted. So you will need to play almost all the time to prevent your house from being ransack as well you need to ransack others houses otherwise the people who does play the game all the time will get all the cool stuff and you will end up with the junky stuff and it keeps on getting stolen from you every night.
There is a line between being realistic enough to get really into the game. And to a point where you are a slave to the game.
No... Not really... This is what I do in the interview... I look at their resume and find any gaps in their skill sets that I know of. I give them an example that my advantage will get me a better answer. They will give me an answer based on their experience, (which initially helps me see if he can think outside the box) then I give him the more efficient answer and see how they respond to it. Now if they get defensive and argue to me that their less efficient is better or just say that is an interesting method I need to remember that. Really tells me a lot about the person... No matter the age. I also like to give them a question that uses their skill sets and I propose a less efficent method and see how they respond to that... A Yes man will just always go with me, someone who is good will politely explain their view. It isn't bubbly but a professionalism. And realization of the following... Us hiring them is a favor to them not us. (especially in a slow economy, it is an employers market) Hiring a Bad employee is worse then not hiring an Excellent one. (So error on letting someone good miss just as long as you don't get the bad one)
Oddly enough I started using the GIMP once I switched to Photoshop I found that it was much easier to do a lot of simple things... Where if I were to do it with the GIMP it would be a massive struggle.
You know being jaded may be the case. As an IT Manager myself I have rejected a lot of older developers not because of skill sets but because of that jaded attitude. I don't want to spend my work day arguing with a developer just because he thinks he knows better. Even though he may not fully understand the skill sets of the larger team trying to create an architecture where everyone can maintain. Sometimes you need to do things sub-optimal for better overall results. Yes lets not go with an Object Oriented Model for this case because of the size of the application it just doesn't fit and the support people will take a lot time trying to fix a problem vs. a procedural approach (or a Light OO) which changes can be found quicker and easier from other people. Or having someone who supposed to work under you trying to manage you job, just because he has more experience. If you are going for a job you better make yourself a team player where your experience is helpful for the process not an ego boost to yourself where you need to hinder the process so you can be right.
You went to the store the store keeper knew who you are and what you bought. Then they would gossip about you to the rest of the neighbors. If you tried to be a tight lip and more independent the more interested people would be in getting information about you. The more open you were the better others will treat you the more privet they will mistrust you more and not get any favors.
So except for a select/join you will need to go to the person who did that, and they will say joe smith.
In many ways power plants will still be running and generating pollution anyway. I think extra power-usage vs. pollution generated may be a smaller increase. vs. the power plants still polluting + a device that is polluting too. Think about the extra power you car makes that you normally don't need. Heat, Noise, extra trust... So it does help to be electric.
Is it a utopian vision of 0 pollution. No but it is a case the power plants produce 25% more pollution which is less then the 40% the non-electic vehicles generate. As well we can get power form other sources too which allows for future upgrade.
For me when ever I print something out it is for the following reasons
1. It is something I needed stored for a long time and put cabinet and pulled back if I need it again and it is not on my computer. 2. For something I will need to take a pen and sketch or in general mark up... Check boxes, take extra notes around or highlight key fields. 3. Something I can fold up into say a booklet (a lot of people doesn't like doing this but I do) so I can read more carefully.
This type of printing will make me in general afraid to print out anything because I will need to really take care of the paper. Which I don't want to take the responsibility for.
Consumable Free printers will be worthless until it can print on normal or at least very affordable (Less then carbon paper)
Well Predominately Star Trek IV The only STTOS movie that non-trekies liked. However The Original Star Trek series used the idea with a lot less detail just as an excuse for time travel.
When Star Craft was first released Most people had dialup Internet. LAN Parties popularity wasn't as much about people getting together Although it was a big benefit, But to Play without massive Lag... Today with most people having high speed internet Lag isn't an issue. So you can still have you "Lan" Party but you will need to connect to the Internet and back out... Really no big deal with wireless. But for the most case the need for LAN parties isn't really that big anymore.
Well that is the way it goes... Apple creates something... Microsoft Copies it from Apple but finds a way to make it a little bit junky. Then Linux copies Microsoft and makes it even more Junky.
I liked Linux much better back in the mid 90's when it is was just a Rip Off of Unix.

Yea Yea Yea... We know the good old simplified that we like to hear. Where the big bosses are either greedy or idiots, and they do nothing while all their pions do all the work...
Your attempt is to dehumanize the bosses make them seem sub human so you feel better that you are not a millionaire too.
Windows 3.1 - 7 are often based on the same code set. A security flaw back in windows 3.1 was back then a small detail considering that to get into windows 3.1 you need to type in "win" at the DOS window. Where in DOS you can do basicly anything you wanted.

Or the fact paying for a Cell connection just to type a document. It is just silly. We need good office tools default with Linux. Open Office is the closest we have. So it really needs to stay with it. Otherwise Linux will seem like a cheap as in crappy version where if you put some more money you can get a nice install of windows 7
Then there is the conspiracy theory mind set. There is always something going on that somehow there is one piece that is beyond our comprehension on how they do it.
I am sure there are solid american geeks out there when they plug in their USB Device will find odd communication going to china and probably report it on the internet with the exact test case to show it.
As well many of the China made components are made of US made specs and if they are not working as planned then there is a problem.
For the most part for the problems with chinese goods isn't a grand conspiracy but a vender who is trying to make their product that much cheaper then their competition thus cut corners and make a harm full product... This happens in America too.
So the risk of buying chinese components isn't as much Spying on you. But just crappy products that could hurt you.
