As the AC said, gift cards are (or rather, can be) anonymous. However, I was just answering the question of how one lives without a credit card. It's not all that hard, even without a debit card.
I don't know about OP, but most of the utilities I get service from do not take credit cards. Instead, you can either mail them a check/money order, pay via EFT online from your checking account, or pay in person at a place that does Western Union. If I recall, the only one that'll take a credit card is Comcast... though my natural gas place might as well. I know the electric company and the water department don't accept credit cards at all. For excise tax and at the DMV, I have to pay with cash, check, or money order (they accept credit cards for licenses at the DMV, but not for titles, registrations, or sales tax). My landlord doesn't take credit cards either - he requires a check or cash.
For online purchases, one can rely on picking up gift cards at a local brick and mortar or go without. Personally, I have a debit card attached to a checking account for such things with a limited amount held inside, but it's perfectly reasonable to go without one. Indeed, I don't have any credit cards, just that one debit card. Yes, it can be a pain getting cash out for purchases, but I find I spend less if I'm using actual money.
Yeah, I seem to recall Navistar/International getting caught up with a similar issue with their Maxxforce engines. No urea/DEF in those things, but their emissions apparently weren't within spec either, with the other companies having the same concern you did -- what did they have that the others didn't. In their case, it turns out, the answer was, "nothing - they're just lying". Seems to be the case here too.
The tubes are 8 feet long, and I have a small sedan. The fixtures and the spare tubes came with the house. How do you propose I actually get them anywhere? Rent a van?
I know that Lotus Notes causes this issue on my work computer. (Yes, yes, I know it's a horrible thing to run but I've no choice in the matter). Killing the Notes process always made it all work again. I'm not sure *what* it's doing, but I know that it's Lotus that's doing it. It's annoying as all get out, too.
What make and model of BluRay player do you have? I'd love to have one that was like that. The one I've got now takes a good 2-3 minutes before it'll play a BluRay... and heaven forbid if I turn it on before I turn my TV on... it won't handshake after the fact for some reason.
Is it even possible to buy a new car without electric windows these days?
My brand new GMC Sierra pickup has manual windows, manual door locks and no cruise control. If you look around, you can find things without easily enough.
Bullocks. Truckers pay tax on diesel the same as anyone else buying diesel. The 'tax exempt only' prices are for off-road diesel (farm tractors, generators, refrigeration units and so-on). Trucking fuel tax is a bit more complicated though, as one must pay fuel tax to the states they operate in, not just in the state they purchased the fuel. Look up IFTA for more information.
I think it might actually be at AT&T's request. I've got the Audible app on my Verizon Droid and it happily downloads larger than 20 MB files on 3G. It's a feature I use with some regularity given how much I travel in areas away from wifi.
Yeah, but honestly, the alarm gate doesn't stop those people either. They zip right out. I wonder what the value is of one of those things that they're nabbed so often...
The scanners seem to be just set up to show something at random that's on sale. It'd be nice if it was related to where I was, but it'd be even nicer if it'd just shut up and leave me alone hehe.
There is a chain of stores in the US, Stop & Shop, that is doing what you describe for self-checkout now. It's much much more convenient than the regular self checkouts here. I wish more stores would take that up, though from what I'm told, there's a lot of people stealing the hand scanners......and annoyingly, the hand scanners every so often make a "ka-ching" noise and show some special on the screen they're having. It's loud and unwelcome. It's still better than the regular system, though.

It's not paranoia if they really/are/ out to broadcast coded messages at you.

Oddly, in my case, that's not an option. While Comcast has a drop to my home, the local telco, Fairpoint, does not, and when called, has no desire to dig up my yard to run a line (not that my landlord would let me tell them to do that anyway).
As such, I can get Comcast. No southern exposure for satellite either.
Are you terribly sure of that? It seems rather the opposite -- I know this is just one my personal experience, but my taxes are lower, my utility prices are lower (electric, phone, cable), my broadband availibility is the same (but higher speeds are available) and my rent is lower since I've moved from the city (Springfield, MA) to a little rural town in Vermont. Granted, the roads here are less maintained here than in the areas surrounding the city, but those in the city were worse than they are here too.
If you want cheap fast broadband, move out of the US.
Really? Hmmm... given the way pager signals sound (indeed, a series of tones -- they bleed over into the ham bands that I use when not configured properly) I figured that's what it'd meant... My mistake.

Well, maybe if it's shaped like the N-GAGE...

Would you have to change any lyrics? I mean, how do you know he's *not* singing happy birthday?
It's called Pentagon Wars - one of my favorite movies, actually. It's one of those "it's funny because it's true" things.

Same here. I'm thinking of moving them up into the attic since it's empty. Out of sight, out of mind.

Lucky bastard. It's $0.17/kWh up here in Vermont.

Well, you should want to! They're interesting... all sciency and stuff.

Ah ha! So Jerry Lewis has autism! LaDEEEEEE
To that end, have you found a decent VNC client application for it?
