you know... I hear this black sheep thing a lot but it just doesnt sit right with me. If osama is so pissed at his Saudi arabia for letting in the infidels and all that, why hasnt he attacked Saudi Arabia even once? why isnt he going after the royal family since they are clearly the ones he should have the biggest beef with.
is it possible that this whole "black sheep" thing is nothing more than a ploy to draw attention away from the fact that our biggest enemy is directly connected to our closest "ally" in the region. Ive never really been convinced that he is so far removed and isolated from the saudi royal family... frankly, its just a little too convenient.
I think you have me confused... Im certainly not the guy suggesting that anyone go out and kill someone over an eminent domain seizure. Thats the last thing I would suggest. I was just talking about the numbers.
Frankly, I have no idea what the payouts are like on eminent domain seizures... I would love to see a study done on it... Its all public information as is the sale price of comparable properties. I wonder how much of a raw deal it ends up being.
of course for most people the problem is that in realestate there is no such thing a a comperable property... even if there is an identical house its location is different (exceptions being large modern developments) I imagine it would be hard to give up a home you built at any price... but 5-10% over market would probably do the job for me;-)
if they gave a damn about states rights they would not have voted the way the did in the medical marijuana case just last week.
the problem with the supreme court is that they are unwilling to take a stand on what the constitution means... they are more than willing to allow for the broadest interpretation to give the legislature (federal or state, depending on the subject... but federal coming firs) this is not "Checks and Balances" it is giving power to a body that was never meant to have such power.
the way that eminent domain has been tradtionally used has been to build public works such as roads, schools or other things that the governement needs to build to provide services to the people.
the one other way in which it has been used is to level "economically blighted" areas... tearing down areas that are a shambles and are not going to be developed piece by peice so that the whole area can be revitalized.
most people would not have much of a complaint with these uses... although people still bitch when their home is taken to build a highway, the populous as a whole usually sees the benefit.
neither of these is the case here... this is not a blighted neighborhood... and its a private construction that is going to be put up in the place of these homes... the arguement for the public good is that the office park to be built will provide greater tax revenue than the homes that are there now.
that is practically the definition of stepping onto the slippery slope...
thats a lot more control than iTunes has over an iPod.
when your ipod is hooked up to your computer it is nothing but a hard drive... go ahead... put on the headphones while it is plugged into your machine and try to get music to play through them without touching the ipod itself.
All iTunes can do is read from and write to the iPod just like a hard drive... and completely unlike a player piano.
streamed music to airport express is also not control... I can stream music to your computer (which is all that the airport express really is) but that doesn't mean I can erase your hard drive.
well... to be fair, the theory isnt that it stops crime entirely.
imagine how much worse it could be if it wasnt just the parrents that are too stupid to know that they cant provide for their children but rather all women who get knocked up and dont want or cant raise the child.
children who are put up for adoption are at a high risk for becoming criminals. I wonder if the number of children put up for adoption has dropped dramatically since the legalization of abortion... I would assume that it has, but I dont know for sure.
just think of how many more troubled kids you might know if the smarter parents didnt have an option.
Just a thought.... Im not sure I really agree with the conclusions or not.
a few years ago I was at an international house of pancakes late at night... the place was pretty busy and I was waiting for a table when 3 guys... each at least twice my size burst into the place and out another door... two of them were kicking the crap out of the third who was in bad shape at this point.
I looked around the room and there were maybe 25 able bodied men standing around watching.... at least on of the waitstaff called the cops (state police barracks up the street... half an hour later and an off duty cop would have been working security) but nobody made a move to stop them from repeatedly kicking the guy on the ground.
the only two people to react were my friend and I... we were both totally outclassed and Im not sure what would have happened if they had attempted physical violence against us (id like to think my other friends would have helped us). I burst in and screamed at the two at the top of my lungs... yelled at them to get off of the guy... it didnt stop them, but it slowed them down and one of them came over to try to keep us out of it.
I didnt escalate to violence to save this guy from the few extra kicks he took, because I probably would have been hurt rather badly, but I was willing to risk them turning on me to keep them from kicking the crap out of this guy.
why were my friend and I the only ones willing to take that risk... with 10 of us there would be no risk.
I suggest you go with cast iron cook wear.... sure you cant use soap on it, but they clean up very easily, are just as non stick as teflon when hot and last a lot longer. Plus, no concerns about eating teflon or breathing the vapors they give off at high heat!
to be fair... the people shouting treason are the ones who got totally fucked over by the whole watergate thing coming out... most of them worked for the nixon administration
im not worried about apples ability to make the software transition, although they can be bumpy... i know I wont be buying a mac while the transition is going on... i dont want a PPC that my favorite softwre might not run on in 3 years because the developer doesnt feel like supporting old macs...
what really worries me is this. will it run on beige boxes... standard PCs. If it will, thats bad for apple, because people will buy cut rate PCs and run the OS on them. If it is not possible it is bad for apple because if the Mac has 98% identical parts as some cut rate PC and costs more it will piss off consumers.
I dont see a way around that. it seems like a loose loose situation to me.... but maybe steve has something else up his sleeve...
It is duller... one of my friends had a titanium wedding ring (he is allergic to most precious metals). It is a dull grey and has a second band of a different colored metal in the center that is nicely etched... very nice, but definitely not shiny.
if it were american and they survived they would likely sue both the manufacture of the tubes (for not warning you not to fill them with gasoline and light them) and george lucas for inspiring the event.
given that one is underage (17) the parents would probably be preparing a lawsuit regardless...
The president of my company has decided that the release of Star Wars an event worthy of a company outing. They are taking most of the company out for an afternoon showing on the 19th.
Actually... I have noticed that safari has warned me a couple of times that I have been downloading an executable. Every time it has happened it has been a widget... but it doesnt seem to happen every time.
It never asks me if I am downloading from apples site, only if I am downloading 3ird party widgets from other sites... and even then it doesn't seem consistent... might have to do with how they are packaged.
still... I dont think I like the fact that they are installed automatically, especially if the warning is going to be inconsistent.
If you are in fact color blind then you should know that color should absolutely be avoided as a means of conveying information in a user interface. it becomes a problem for people who cant differentiate.... this is UI design 101 stuff.
Sure... you can still read the words, but in that case, why have the icons at all. Why not just have clickable buttons with the words in them... hell you could still color them if you really want, secure in the knowledge that the words provide enough information.
If the icons are going to be there, they should be there for a reason. They should convey information, not just take up space. This is true for every interface that is designed... not just the shutdown dialog... and it is a huge problem throughout microsoft software (and software from other windows developers who take their cues from microsoft)
it may be funny... but it does happen... a group of my friends and I were denied access to Japan because the suspected we were a bunch of shifty foreigners who were there to bum around for a month.
they were right of course... but still... they didnt let us into the country although we had not done anything "wrong" some of the people were just to scruffy looking for them I guess.
you know... I hear this black sheep thing a lot but it just doesnt sit right with me. do you realize that if I had my house bought out from under me for 80% of its value I would not have any equity to buy a new house?
do you realize that many people in that situation would still owe money on their house? the one they dont even own anymore?
if they gave a damn about states rights they would not have voted the way the did in the medical marijuana case just last week.

Ive seen this myself.
a few years ago I was at an international house of pancakes late at night... the place was pretty busy and I was waiting for a table when 3 guys... each at least twice my size burst into the place and out another door... two of them were kicking the crap out of the third who was in bad shape at this point.

People are not dying for a lack of pot.
the defendants in a recent supreme court case might disagree with you.

cool... thats a great piece of trivia from my home town... thanks!
except that x86 is some of the dreck from wintel...
Its a shame really... intel has some great tech chip wise... but the instruction set is quite old.
they better have some cheep machines then...
who is going to pay apple more for a machine with the exact same specs and 98% of the same components as a cheep ass dell.
sure, I love OS X but thats got to make it harder for people to switch... why buy a 4GHz apple when you can get a 4GHz dell for less...
now if they are cost competitive with dell thats a whole other thing... that would be awesome... but Im not expecting it
im not worried about apples ability to make the software transition, although they can be bumpy... i know I wont be buying a mac while the transition is going on... i dont want a PPC that my favorite softwre might not run on in 3 years because the developer doesnt feel like supporting old macs...

"Many Bothans died to bring you this information"
and the bell tolled for every single one of them... all Bothans were properly diminished...

probably due to good safety training... as soon as you stop thinking of a gun as a weapon you become a lot more dangerous to the people around you.
that must be a pretty old iMac... I doubt it is your inability to run Quartz Extreme that is hampering your performance.
