I would be glad, that if it detects I'm sitting still in front of my desk, not only fades out the light and let me take a quiet nap, but also post a "do not disturb" on the door. Now, that would be great at work!
Sure they can, nobody said it must be vista, it could be Windows Mobile 6 as well. I bet that runs! For the purpose, OLPC doesn't need all the fancy stuff that comes with Vista and a basic compact version could be of use.
Microsoft should be thinking on shipping lightweight OS for people with performance needs in terms of batteries, instead of keep adding to the resource eater monster that Vista already is.
I don't understand how an OS can be evaluated by its applications.
"And so... this OS is much better because word processing is so cool, and graphic editing is amazing, not even talk about browsing the web!"
Is it just me? but what does Paint or OpenOffice has to do with the OS? Shouldn't people ask.. "Opening a big picture took..." or "the rendering of the Blue-ray movie was poor". Do I care if the installation window was pretty? Should that be a parameter to be taken into account?
In this case, I bet a good comparison for several people would be: "This OS showed much better reproduction of the deck when playing solitaire".
In fact, congestion control theory and protocol modeling widely uses the analogy to flows and pipes and most of the well known models of TCP are based on this behavior. So I couldn't agree more, now that I know several papers in the area describe the network as pipes.
No worries, they will be soon having control of your webcams, so they can get also pictures of what YOU were doing while watching those pages you were browsing;).
I was thinking about the same. If it is really complex to do so, how did they measure that frequency, and better, how do they know the wave form. Was it sinusoidal? They might as well created a squared signal (which I think is a higher achievement) and they can only put a filter to obtain a harmonic waaaay higher.
I do agree, the gun control in the US is really relaxed. You find stores selling this kind of supplies like car dealers, all around the place. This should be centralized to important cities in the states, and be severely controlled. The more the thinks spread the harder to contempt. Thus, if you want to maintain a good control, don't let the weapons leave important supplies centers to small wooden houses over a highway.
Hunters should be aware that THIS is an important matter and stop whining about there freedom of getting weapons at the corner shop. That's the most dangerous policy I think the US have locally and I hope it's soon to be modified. No wonder you can even find rifles on e-bay. But if you can buy the parts online, I don't think is complicated (and in fact emotionally challenging for a psycho), to get the parts and build the weapon.
What about we all already have access to an Outback, and you want to start putting McDonalds everywhere and pushing people to eat there?
The Internet was not originally created for profit, that makes it somehow good, and that's probably why people is pushing so hard to change it. I'm only saying that allowing that change, is giving the companies opportunity to introduce more levels of service to get more money out of it.
I hope you have clear that implementation of technology does not necessarily depends on what is the more advanced or the best, but what could get more money out of the customers. Probably if Metcalfe wouldn't say the network doubles its size every year, companies would never get into it.
I just think that shouldn't be done to the Internet. But go figure. I might be wrong. Who cares, if at the end, I'm not the one deciding, there are many above deciding for me, right?
More than that, and it has been said already, is the "QoS", which is in part a hidden "Pay for better service". Internet is fair enough, differentiation of services will become the future social discrimination.
Other than that, if they plan to change for good reasons, nice. However, among all the protocols, what would prevail if is not a corporation based one? Would Vista come with SCTP or XCP support in the case they decide to change transport protocols?
Maybe technology will take part, but as usual money will take a larger one. So, it's hard to trust about what big companies want for their customers.
But, is it really a hack? After working for more than 3 years with satellite equipment (SCPC and VSAT), I know, it;s not complicated. In fact, it's easy if you have the equipment, and you don't need to be a hacker to have money and buy a modem, antennas, LNAs and a spectrum analyzer.
Any satellite company, will find hard to discover who's using their services, unless they monitor all their frequencies of their transponders all the time.
In fact, not too often, they say certain transponders will go out of service for certain reasons, however, whit enough power, encryption, and good connectors, you can freely transmit with no chances of being tracked.
I don't see how a "satellite" can be hacked it's something that is there, and you could take, but you shouldn't. Is like going to Chicago, and reflect your self in the giant bean, you can do it if you have the means and not everybody has to know about it. You can put cops in front of the bean 24/7, but does it worth it?
In fact, there is also a concern about the natural visual angle of humans which is -15 degrees. If you sit close to the TV, at a lower level that the TV (which is normally the case), then you are forcing your eyes to an unnatural angle, causing normally headaches, and possible (not clearly established) long term effects.
Perhaps the word was not correctly used? I don't know, but it is true that society is corrupted, and the sooner you show your kids the reality, the better.
As a simple example take the drinking age in the US. The kids are totally overprotected until they go to college, then they face alcohol problems, and even though not all of them break the law, most of them do, showing that indeed they should had learn before.
Now, US is, indeed, a large alcohol consumer, isn't it?
However, since I'm not blaming alcohol or this problem, it's a human problem become addicted to something, either Internet, smoking, drinking, gambling... if humans weren't prone to become addicts to something perhaps none of this problems would never existed. Therefore, the quicker you show your children this problems and they learn to recognize them, the better, don't you think?

Or better, being paranoid and activate it, only to find it was under the couch.
What do you mean by 10? Start dropping a marble at the 10th floor? If it breaks what? You only have two marbles.
I would start dropping from the 2nd floor, if it breaks I use the reminder (one) on the first floor. Otherwise go to 4th, and so on.

Oh wait... nevermind.
I wonder where Franz Kafka would be if he were taking classes with these teachers.

I have absolutely no clue about weapons at all. I'm not arguing that. If you know a bit more, probably is easier to get something more than a scope.
In the pictures they all seem to run Vista, so.. I guess they are not that bad, but who knows how long did they take to boot up.
Terrorist means anything to sell guns, sell security systems, or to get oil.

He only uses IOS wich is certainly *more* robust than windows. I bet he hasn't rebooted a single router and never had compatibility issues.
Do you only see bad things?

3.1 Billion dollars won't change my hosts file:
...
127.0.0.1 atdmt.com
127.0.0.1 adbrite.com
127.0.0.1 doubleclick.net
127.0.0.1 googlesyndication.com
...
But if they can get the money from doubleclick customers... good for them.
So you can still reproduce the 50k-60k noise of your internal switching power supply of course!

Well, I bet that's why they are putting routers in heaven! Maybe you'll be able to get it.

Unlucky they didn't apply enough energy so they could recreate the whole big bang.
I wouldn't recommend to drink the water from the surroundings, they might drink the emperor!

The Tesla that appeared in the last IEEE spectrum issue is also a nice looking car with also good specs when compared to this one.
