Damn, I used all of my mod points yesterday.
Speaking of the flooding of Loissiana though, didn't some researchers or archeologists hypothesize that the first great flood happened because of a breach of natural dikes (hills or mountains) that ended up flooding a large low lying area?
Another reason why I like hosting my own sites and having my own email server. Don't have to worry about what is said or sent over it, except for where the ISP is concerned I guess.
I think it could go either way.
Exactly.
Not to mention there could be more targeted spam, via email, flyers or phone calls. Someone sees you got burnt years back, call you up with the newest of the new plastic surgery techniques.
Woman has breast cancer, gets an email from an implants company.
Kid loses leg, gets a call, and multiple emails about cheeta prostetics and such.
The list goes on. Someone will have a cure for anything they can find wrong with you.
Not to mention targeted Google ads?
Was the phone a Samsung A900? I left mine open (flip phone) in a rainstorm one night for a good twenty minutes before I realised that it was lost. This is the same rainstorm that ended up hydrolocking my brothers Cavalier engine. The speaker didn't work quite right for the next few days and it was a tad big glitchy for a week but all seems to be good now except for a stuck volume button once and awhile and random shutoffs once every month or so.
Most of the time when I see people wearing these in my area it is the lowlifes who think they are cool. They use their credit to get phones like the RAZR and those earpieces to try and make it look like they have some semblance of money. Basically I'm saying those closer to white trash in my small city love these techy little gadgets.
I don't really think that it is fair to again double the price of the texting when you are using the whole of your ISP bandwidth in the equation. If you want to talk about transferring 2,560 MP#'s worth of data, then use that number for all mediums. Not to mention that someone else's bandwidth and such will have to be used to transfer the MP3's to your machine.
Are Warner and Sony in it together? These days I wouldn't put it past these kinds of companies to do something like this and get away with it. Anti-trust in a year or few anyone?
How true. Fanboys will be fanboys though. I just really wonder why any of these things are news anymore. Whether it's CBC.ca, slashdot.org, or other news sites, none of it reallys seems worthwhile to read. Google is Google and sooner or later most big corps corrupt or grow too big we as a society get jealous and love to hate them.
So Very True.
I am only two years out of high school and still remember that it was indeed fashionable to be stupid. People would always be putting themselves down and calling themselves stupid. It was funny to fail tests, miss assignments, or generally do poorly in every respect. Some people would be pissed off when they got their final grades but usually they let it slide and so did the teachers, the school board, and many parents. I remember classmates getting $100 per class passed. My parents would harass me for not gettin over a 90% average.
I still believe that most of societies problems are starting in the home. Discipline your children, bring them up right and with values, spend time with them, and make productive people out of them.
Having said that, 'The Man' can make that really hard to do. We want to attain stuff and lead 'good' lives and be 'well off'. So more and more people sacrifice a family for money and the ones that don't are stuck between working to pay for their families needs, or bringing them up right and generally poor.
I have too much to say in one post and the thoughts lead every which way. I welcome other people thoughts and critisisms. (I might only be visited by the grammar nazi's).
My mentor always said 'common sense is not so common' and I fully agree. Some people you really have to wonder if they were born human or just with a human body and the brain of something else.
That being said, being smart or having common sense isn't what really seems to matter in society these days.
Are you a good consumer?
Then you fit in society. Just look at schools and families. Makes you sick. Makes you wonder if at some point 'inventions' will become a thing of the past, and not just because 'everything has been invented already'.
I also came across this disturbing information when I tried to 'delete' my Facebook account. I believe it even says that people can still interact with you as you are still there by sending you requests to become friends, invite you to events and invite you to join other apps. I wonder how long they keep an account deactivated. Hell, even if they did have an expiry date that did delete your account, who is to say they don't just keep the data kicking around after the fact anyway as historical data?
Once you give them something they don't want you to take it away. It's not just Facebook. So many sites now collect data at signup that shouldn't even have signups, don't need them, or at least don't need to collect as much info as they do.
This is exactly what is happening to the web side of IT at the city I work for. We two web admins are bogged down with daily updates of retarded shit like pdf's images, corporate restructuring and naming. Not to mention the website hasn't had a full update in 10 years. We are now at the tail end of a project that will see the new site run on a CMS for websites and have some of the users enter their own things. Hoepfully this will free up enough time for us to work on the servers and such as we are moving them inhouse with the launch of this new website (opposite of outsource I guess). We are still going to have to approve client changes, admin the CMS, make changes ourselves, train users on the system and much more. Yes jobs change but they always have and always will. Eventually these cutesy mashup and blog type things will die out as fad and we can get back to business, or the next fad.....
You may pose no threat now but what happens a couple years down the road, something pisses you off and you go berserk? Hell, you could even get paid a million in cash by terrorists to go bomb Washington yourself. Maybe not you, I am not judging you character, but I am sure some other 'good' citizen could be bribed.
Finally we workers now have ammunition against those who say its not business-like or proper to swear in a workplace like an office and such. Hell fucking ya!
Or maybe some of us are talanted enough to be able to browse and have sex (real sex and or oral) at the same time, kind of like driving sex. Not to mention the easy access to p0rn has made the need for geeks to have sex minimal if they have never experienced it (maybe who the hell knows).
It's all fine and dandy for a 1000 person survey but what kind of group were these people anyway? Truly random? It's probably the same people who are on the internet all the time and have nothing better to do than do these surveys anyway. This is just some bullwhoey survey and seems to be a part of the junk news on slashdot trend.
Isn't GPS inaccurate by a few meters because it is/was military tech and they didn't want to give us the full capability?
Good one with the CCTV cams though. Guess it's a bit different with military tech gone civil here than there.
Yes, I wonder when the last time some form of military technology was later declassified and put into use commercially and civily? GPS? Automatic and semi automatic rifles. Hummers. My list is short but I know there are many more.
The funny thing is that now that you've mentioned that you haven't noticed any Global Warming articles this one has turned towards that topic for at least a good few post.... We will never win. It's amazing how offtopic a whole discussion can go and people still get modded +55 interesting or informative or insightful (which all seem pretty much the same rating to me, as what is informative can be at the same time interesting and visa versa).
Go Slashdot FTW
Smoke on Friend.
If it grows naturally, why bar it? Why waste resources and create false economies and jobs by having 1000's of people enforce the illegality of weed? If people want it they will get it.
I remember this bubble sort of. Back in 97 when we got our P2 from local big box it came with a cd wallet that had 100 cd software bundle. Encarta, medical encyclopedias, games of all genres, national geographic, bob villa home design and a bunch of other useless stuff. Can't remember if it was a selling feature or just a bunch of useless 'buy me' stuff.
Remember how it is they are harnessing the energy. They are not taking/sapping the energy from you but generating it from the friction/movement of the tiles you are walking on. Now since the floor will be moving a slight bit and tend to maybe moved up and down or side to side slightly may take more of your energy on lift off and landing but I'm sure it is negligable.

Does not Niggurat mean house? So what does Shub-Niggurath mean?
I also live in Canada; Saskatchewan to be exact. Our drivers licenses are still Imperial, go figure.
Eventually Metric will be the universal form of measurment. Although I'd still like to weigh myself in pounds and measure myself in feet and inches.
Girlfriend and I put new server together on the weekend. Worst part was waiting for her to come over before I could open the box of parts.
