It seems to me the U.S. is taking on more and more communist tendencies. This is borderline insane. President Shrub just keeps trying to tighten the grip, yet the US does not have the right nor the responsibility to police the internet, and force this country's ideals on other nations.
I woul dhave never thought a school would sponsor such an event. This is something that I feel is a good idea. There are many gaming groups in this country, that charge for this kind of thing and require you to bring your own box. If the systems provided are good enough to keep the kids happy, I see nothing wrong with it.
Often, at LAN parties, there is an amount of alcohol, and the possibility of illegal drugs. This keeps the kids away from the alcohol, drugs, and smokes.
Besides if this is a supervised event, it's a lot more safer than some of the other things that happen after hours. Hopefully this will spread to other places. Great Job
It's more like "You mean our stuff is the same price/cheaper, and people still aren't buying it???"
Micro$oft now has to deal with people who are well established in the game market. Since they don't own the market, they have to play the game (no pun intended) and produce a superior product (something they are definatly not used to)
Somehow I think the United States will beat them up there. Besides, I rather like the idea of the moon staying the same color. There would something weird about a red moon... wait, wasn't that in a B rated movie somewhere?
I don't know about the rest of yall, but my friends and I decided to be the true warriors, and see it 0001. Who needs sleep anyway? Isn't that why god gave us caffeine?
I've been using Mandrake since version 6.2, and have loved it. Recently I've installed SuSE 8 on my primary workstation, and absolutly love it. As far as RedHat, I don't really care for it. I respect the fact that they are in the wold activly competing with Windows. The sacrifice of the features isn't worth it to me.
Fragmentation in the Linux community would be a very bad thing right now. With Micro$oft bgged with legal battles, this is the perfect time for all the Linux distros to band togather and put a major dent in their server market.
Linux on the desktop is coming, but IMHO it isn't quite there yet. When it is, I see many companies (inclding school districts, and government agencies) dumping the Evil Empire for something that is a great deal less expensive, and much more stable.
With projects like PHP Projekt and PHP Groupware making great strides in development, I can see the Open Source comunity advancing on Exchange, and hopefully replacing it. Keep up the good work developers:)
If we can't let our kids kill things, beat people with large/heavy/pointy objects in virtual reality, how are we as a society going to populate the Marine Corps??? (BTW I am a big fan of the military, but those Marines are nutz)
A friend bought an All-In-Wondder card, and not supprisingly, it had problems with counter strike. go figure. The ATI cards are cool when it comes to video capture, but am I the only one who will sacrifice that for good graphics?
How would we know for sure if it actually works?

Lets say he actually builds this thing.. how would we know it actually worke... since he'd leave our timeline, and who knows where he'd go... maybe he's got a "Home" button like a web browser:). And is he planning to perfect time warp from Star Trek? Better call Spock.
I have to agree with everyone who mentioned that Star Office isn't free. Why do people think MandrakeSoft will foot the bill for it? they have to pay for it, and it's a feature, so they are passing the cost on to the customer. (Sounds fair to me) If you want to complain about it, then go get Open Office like the rest of us.
I currently have about 400GB of online storage on my home network. Being a network geek myself I realize that backups are a must. Granted hard drives are cheap, however there is a finite number of hard drives you can up into a computer. I agree that backup is a must, and if you have something that you absolutely can't lose, then by all means back it up. My servers backup to each other. While this seems like a giant waste of space, and rather difficult to deal with... it works. This strategy has saved me several times, so I see no reason not to recommend it to others.
I know there are many people out there who have been using teh AventGo software which will allow you to sync the slashdot page, as well as some of the links. This makes it nice for those of us who have no need for a wireless organizer. Although most people are not going to go buy a Palm VII/x just to view slashdot on the fly, it is a very cool feature for those who already have them.
The only thing I would like to know is who is going to be around to see if these predictions, which are about a hundred years off, is going to be around to prove it. Secondly, how do any of us know that one day someone will wise up and first of all, figure out how to stop the problem and second, figure out how to fix it. Who knows, someone may invent duct tape for the ozone. Afterall, we all know duct tape will fix anything and everything.
It seems to be that Apple is using the law as a club... They are so afraid of anyone divulging any sort of secrete. It's something that is really starting to get annoying. They want to innovate, but god forbid anyone actually sees what they are doing before it hits the street. For some strange reason other companies have this happen all the time and they don't really care because it gives them that much more publicity. Furthermore, the companies that want to keep something quiet don't run around telling all their friends. This is like running up to a friend and telling them something, and then asking them not to tell anyone else... Very typical of a childish mind or minds at work.
There should be something illegal about this. Just this morning I was talking to a friend who was telling me that AOL sent him a message regarding one that was sent to him. AOL informed him "the language contained in this message is not appropiate for viewing". What I would like to know is who the hell they think they are to decide what kind of languace is acceptable.
I personally don't care for hte MacOS, however there are too many people and too many business who make productive use of ir. It might be niceif they were all running Linux on their macs *grin*, but that isn't going to happen, and if intel feels it necessary to act in such a childish manner, then so be it. All of my systems are running AMD processors, which I still say will ourpreform an intel. If people want to use their macs, then let them...
Being a user of many Microsoft products, I respect their feeling of discontent directed at anyone who would want to tread on their little monopoly. However, the right of Internet users to speak their minds in an intelegent and appropiate manner shall not be infringed under the law. To make Andover censor the posting put on Slashdot is not only insane but an obvious breach of the First Amendment.
AMD has done a superb job, slaying the Intel dragon. Overcoming intel in thetech market is at very least a major acomplishmen. I recently had the opppritunity to play with a K7-500. Even in comparison with the PIII-600, the Athlon has outperformed it. AMD will undoubtily continue topping the PIII. The idea of something that is even faster coming from the depths of intel, when it was also reported by "reliable sources" that Intel had nothing even close, leaves me to wonder if they are getting close or not. I'll believe it when I see it.
I personally listen to 16th century classical or country.. depending on my mood... once and a while there will be german music eminanting from my speakers

Guns don't kill people, class 2 phasers do... just FYI :)

Besides, if you have everything well commented... When it doesn't work, it's much easier to track down the problem.
I generally add an explination at the end of every line of code (that actually does something)
"Chinese projects are without corruption and/or controversy. "
Your right... The people aren't allowed to object... Does the phrase "Human Rights Violations" mean anything?
