Seriously tho. Who designed this page? I mean, I love anime, and Im fairly confident that this is going to be a wonderful (and profitable) movie, but fullscreening to a black "loading" page right away?

How about some basic design principals?!

  9. New generation complexity on Console Price Cuts And The Holiday Season · · Score: 1

The next generation of consoles (or gen after) will, likely, have movie quality graphics. IE, Gollum rendered in real-time on your home console as you make him throw rocks at frodo to get that damn precioussss back.

This is an amazing accomplishment, but it introduces an unparalleled level of complexity. The industry is simply not going to have time to make as many games... unless...

They develop actors and sets. Dont be suprised if, say, Mitsurugi from Soul Calibur becomes the next "Standard" action hero for a bunch of Japanese samurai games. Hes already got a super-complex model of him ready to go. In fact, were already seeing this, with Nina (tekken) getting her own game.

While it will be interesting to see this development, there is the worry of a stagnation of game types. The "Time To Crate" factor may come into play here, to an almost unbearable level. While tweaks will be available, its quite possible that the door frame in a horror game will look exactly the same in an action game, or RPG. Simply to keep production costs down.

Tweaking and adjusting styles will be where the real gold shines in on future games. Sure, we will still get creative games like Rez, but the standard-type games will become more like Movies. ...and I didnt even mention the in-console standard physics engines or other such ideas coming into play.

  10. Re:Finances on Why Are Japanese-Developed Games Less Popular? · · Score: 1

Other commenters beat me to it, but i post anyways.

Neither GTA nor KOTOR were developed by american companies.

I think the real reason that American games sell better is because the Japanese dont really attack the american football/sports market, which makes up a fairly large percentage of videogame sales.

For the record, Ive never really enjoyed sports games. Other then NBA Jam and blades of steel (NES), I cant really think of any sports games I like _that_ much.

  18. Infrastructure on Power Plant Fueled By Nut Shells · · Score: 2, Interesting

Im suprised noone has mentioned this yet.

America and the worlds infrastucture is currently dependant on oil production. This allows the individuals who have the oil to gain tons of power through the sales of billions of dollars worth of black sludge.

We dont generally like these people much. (Racism not-withstanding, politics in the middle east are a huge mess.. but we all knew this)

Why dont we just sweep the rug out from under them and switch our infrastructure to something like this? I mean, america already produces enough food to feed the world, the waste of this production is a byproduct that, basically, goes to waste.

Build these power plants in America. The oil companies can do it, profit greatly, and at the same time, destroy the source of funds for our "Rivals."
