Sometimes you can. Some people simply have no interest in even bothering to learn how to properly, effectively and safely use things that are important to their daily lives, such as cars, computers, or any other tool. These people are ignorant, fucking idiots.
How much would an ISP have to charge to REALLY support a fully saturated 10Mbit/1Mbit for everyone at the same time? My guess is a lot more that double the current rates.
So don't sell it. Sell what they can really provide, specify what the theoretical max is, and be done with it.
Customers can then make their own decisions based on their needs and expectations, and can approximate their level of service from the amount of over subscription.
I'm just diving into Active Directory on a 2k3 server, and setting some policies to make the network at my new job a little easier to manage and add new workstations to.
I'd like to be able to document my changes well, if only to be able to undo things that turn out to be mistakes.
I found myself really wishing all this was just flat files, so I could just add comments like "CHANGED mm/dd/yyyy for X purpose" and the settings would be self-documenting.
require them, and only them, to demonstrate that they have changed their behavior for some reasonable period of time.
You mean force? There is no demonstration if the behavior is forced. The only way this has any lasting effect is because no one would want to go through it again.
They are there for convenience, after all, not for helping you get somewhere faster.
BZZZZT!!! Wrong. They are there to be a higher throughput alternative to elevators and conventional stairs, as well as to make ascent/descent easier. If a large crowd of people needs to move between floors, you must either make the stairs very wide, or use a very large elevator. Escalators allow for higher throughput when people walk up them for a given width of stairway.
Places like malls have these for the crowded shopping season to limit the frustration if people were to have only elevators at their disposal, as we all know very few would take regular stairs.
Damn right we should be rationing right now. The majority of us live in complete luxury, with artificially cheap everything but there is nobody consuming rationally. It's not in our nature.
I agree strongly that we need to conserve resources where possible, but the funny thing about pricing is it's not artificially cheap. We can't price oil based on the fact that it will eventually run out and and so we need to raise the price to match future scarcity. Because then the price would simply be infinity.
Typical Christians (Hypocritical/Not Thinking Things Through)
From the Jesux website:
No encryption provided; Christians have nothing to hide
We have had concerns about the "no encryption" item... but no worries, crypt(3) will still be there. Sorry for the confusion, we do not generally consider it as encryption, though, of course, technically it is. But since it is generally unsuitable for anything other than password authentication, we don't see any problem with it.
Umm, how about SSL for secure web purchases or banking? Or do you not mind if I have your credit card details and bank account passwords? Nothing to hide my ass. How about using the saved passwords feature on a browser? Might that encrypt your passwords? Silly Silly Silly.
The few porn companies that were utilizing DRM early on seem to have dropped the idea.
This may be due to the fact that porn has a *very* short half-life. People are always seeking to see more, different porn. Not the same peices repeatedly, so there is no point in spending money to lock it up. The money is much better invested in producing more porn.
Your imagery here is certainly interesting and somewhat entertaining, but IMHO, the idea that a 'corporation' is necessarily and naturally devoid of humanity and moral code is absolutely bullshit.
A society is composed of a collection of individuals who may or may not be working towards a common goal (typically they are, such as "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness"). This collection of individuals always has some composite set of morals, even if they are few and mild. The stronger the moral compass of individuals, the stronger the morals of the whole is likely to be.
A corporation should be no different, and to claim otherwise is simply a cowardly way of shirking personal responsibility on the part of CEOs all the way down to janitors. The apparent greed of a corporation is not intrinsic to the corporation as an idea, but only exists because of the greed exhibited by the individuals it is comprised of.
There have been some real dead ends too - Palm handwriting, anyone?
Which is a real shame since it (graffiti 1, not 2) was easy to learn, faster than T9 and only used a relatively tiny amount of space compared to on screen keyboards or button entry pads.
Ending hunger is a self-solving problem. The hungry starve to death due to one of the following, natural reasons which can't be wished away:
1) Overpopulation.
2) Failure to accumulate food for oneself
3) Failure of community to allow for the means for it's constituents to provide for themselves.
Yes, this is cynical and heartless, but simply providing food is not the answer. Education on food production, efficiency, birth control, etc. is far more likely to provide lasting results.
Is a package containing scotch, hookers, blackjack and natalie portman covered in hot grits called a woot kit?
Not to mention Java shit's all over your Add/Remove programs list with "Java update 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16...:. I mean, really? WTF?

Where do you drive that the speed limit is over 65?

Heh, makes me wonder if the Web is the new WHORE (java). Yano, Write (Hopefully) Once, Run Everywhere
In the end it's all about money, and having email traffic that they cannot read doesn't make them any.
Isn't this why the Government would be paying for this solution, and likely paying an annual fee for maintenance, etc.?

Since when is gedit not a GUI?
I know the feeling
One time I went to Wawa and started to order a cheesesteak hoagie on the computer screen. At one point it said:
Would you like fried onions?
(No)
(Next)
"Hmm... Guess I don't"
Corporate bastards.
Yes, I know, score -1, Offtopic
They want "an Internet" or "a Google" or (my new favorite) "the Facebook" ...
On a side note, just FYI, "theFacebook" was facebook's original name.
from wikipedia: "On February 4, 2004, Zuckerberg launched "Thefacebook", originally located at thefacebook.com. "

it's not flying, it's *orbiting*!
Is that where Eris/Twitter got its name?
Same has happened around here... However, Video on Demand services and Netflix may also have a more than fair share of the 'blame'.

couldn't they just use the no execute flag when mounting the vol... oh wait, wrong OS.

Hard drive failure is not the only form of data loss. Unsaved files and power loss during file operations can cause data loss.

Why use a confusing picture (Wrench and Piece of paper?) when perfectly clear text can be used.
Similarly, should I have all my mp3's in one folder, or should I have subfolders by artists and albums, or some other criterion for example?
Anyways, that's why I like the traditional "file edit view history bookmarks tools help" interface. Faster and more organized IMHO
