Why? If those scripts for some reason expect to be run on a particular version of the kernel and refuse to run otherwise since it's never been tested (no matter how minor the changes may be), this may be a wise design. However they should be more specific than just "2.6".
TSA hasn't been around that long. They all presumably could have gotten jobs if it hadn't been there or had jobs when it wasn't. If they try, they'll find work. It may not be as cushy. They may make less money. They may not be able to have the latest new shiny. But they'll live.
Agreed. Boggles my mind when I think about how, 20 years ago, a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine in a smallish car (but heavy per today's standard) produced 80 horsepower and averaged in the tens of miles per gallon. Today a modern engine of the same size can produce around 130 to 150 HP, is in a lighter vehicle, and gets twice the mileage. How is this not enough today, when it was enough 20 years ago? Do you really need to accelerate that hard every day? Because, let's face it, you don't need a 250 HP 6 cylinder sedan to get back and forth to work.
Do you have above- or below- ground powerlines? Below ground tends to be a lot more stable. Many blackouts I experience are due to downed power lines from wind, car crashes, etc.
I would imagine instituting an actual 4-way stop for 2-3 seconds would also help. There are still lights that change at the same time. Seems a mistake to me. What's 2 seconds against the possibility of an accident?
How much tv do you need to watch? 4 hours? wake up @ 6/7, get to work by 8/9, get home by 6, make dinner, eat, do dishes, be done by 7, go to bed at 10/11, repeat. I haven't even mentioned the typical day-to-day other things. Where do you find time for 4 hours of tv a day?
I'm currently connected to Facebook chat and of course google chat via jabber, using Pidgin. I find it more reliable and useful than leaving a browser open to FB.
Is it illegal to be a kid and pretend to be an adult and invite a '13 year old cop' to have sex with you? Because that could be a form of civil disobedience or police denial of service (PDOS?) as well.
Ideally for all public-accessible document and interchange formats, open is clearly strongly preferred, but whatever happened to "best tool for the job"?
From TFS:...mandating the use of open standards wherever possible in government IT systems.
They leave a loophole right there. Wherever possible. I'd imagine You could demonstrate that a closed solution is far superior to an open one, and be able to use it.
I can't view the actual files, or go into subdirectories, without restoring them.
I think you just answered your own question. Sometimes it would help in the decision to delete right away or restore if you could browse the folder or see the file.
I'd argue that most dumb phones are better phones than smart phones. Far better battery life (my 4 year old flip phone has a two year old battery and i still only have to charge every few days), less 'butt dialing' and accidental face-pressing-buttons, better ergonomics for talking, etc. Thing is, no one talks anymore. Everything is texting, sigh.
Provides a possible minor annoyance to spyware, Trojans, etc that might try to start listening on a different port?
Not that a smart one wouldn't use some kind of outgoing connection to a proxy.
Perhaps the firewall is protecting, if only minorly, from accidental port openings during config changes or the occasional price of software that doesn't tell you it listens on a port. (idiot protection?)
GP's wording might be a little strong, but in some cases it can be a strong a disadvantage to not have one.
Just like not watching TV can put you at a strong disadvantage relating to people. (I went without for nearly 2 years, never had a clue what anyone was talking about when it came to shows, new movies, funny commercials, etc.)
And lets face it, this world is all about relating to people, and always has been. "It's who ya know" What kind of band, widely public company, anybody that relies on media exposure doesn't have facebook?
Interesting, Has something changed in a day? I am on a Intel Pentium M 2.0ghz (pretty old now) and always had trouble with really slow responsiveness with slashdot with the 2.0 interface. Clicking reply would take forever to open the box, previews took forever, etc. With this new interface, everything is really snappy now. Maybe it's the browser? I'm using FF 3.6.13.
So they offered approximately what we pay one football team each year? Whoop. De. Do.
I mean, really, how many pro football teams are there? We offer them a fraction of one popular form of entertainment's salaries? Not even counting all the extra people involved who get payed and other money spent.

We are stuck in a rut with our large cars.

Can you name one?

Umm, didn't you realize that "The Cloud" was just a way to call it skynet without actually calling it skynet?
Sounds like your boat was poorly designed. Or cleverly designed.
A blown fuse causing brakes to fail scares the shit outta me in a sports car. How the hell should that happen?

Anybody else notice the array of cellphone on a rack in one of those pictures? What was that about? TFA didn't seem to say (I only skimmed it)
I think you just won the internet.

Screw it, lets just make the work day shorter and call it even!

It's called a Taxi. Or public transportation.
Why the hell would this system need to be that complex?
The whole of the process should be:
Utility: "hey meter 12543625"
Meter: "meter reads: 54635"
Of course there will be some encryption, but that's basically solved well enough and record-keeping will note fishy figures.
If you ever need a firmware update on something like this simple, you're doin it wrong.
